Many organisms attached on suspended oyster culture rafts, particularly filter-feeding animals can prevent growth of culturing oyster, because they are competing feeds with oyster in the same niche. In the present study, effects of steel wires coated with various materials on growth of the ubiquitous attached diatom Nitzschia sp. were experimentally examined to develop a better steel wire in terms of less attached organisms. The wire used were a normal zinc-galvanized steel wire, a polyethylene (ionomer resin)-coated steel wire, and magnesium oxide (HUS®)-added (3% and 5%) polyethylene coated steel wires. Following results were obtained, (1) all wires coated with different materials except the ionomer resin itself (as coating material) suppressed the growth of Nitzschia sp., and (2) 5% HUS®-added polyethylene-coated steel wire suppressed the growth of Nitzschia sp. greater than 3% added one did.この研究は,トワロン株式会社による寄付金「HUSによる藻の発生変化の研究」により行われたものである

textabstractAutophagosomes, the hallmark of autophagy, are double-membrane vesicles sequestering cytoplasmic components. They are generated at the phagophore assembly site (PAS), the phagophore being the precursor structure of these carriers. According to the current model, autophagosomes result from the elongation and reorganization of membranes at the PAS/phagophore driven by the concerted action of the autophagy-related (Atg) proteins. Once an autophagosome is completed, the Atg proteins that were associated with the expanding phagophore are released in the cytoplasm and reused for the biogenesis of new vesicles. One molecular event required for autophagosome formation is the generation of phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns3P) at the PAS. Our data indicate that in addition to the synthesis of this lipid, the dephosphorylation of PtdIns3P is also crucial for autophagy progression. In the absence of Ymr1, a specific PtdIns3P phosphatase and the only yeast member of the myotubularin protein family, Atg proteins remain associated with complete autophagosomes, which are thus unable to fuse with the vacuole

Detection of the thermal component in GRB 160107A

We present the detection of a blackbody component in gamma-ray burst GRB 160107A emission by using the combined spectral data of the CALET Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (CGBM) and the MAXI Gas Slit Camera (GSC). MAXI/GSC detected the emission ∼45 s prior to the main burst episode observed by the CGBM. The MAXI/GSC and the CGBM spectrum of this prior emission period is fitted well by a blackbody with temperature 1.0 +0.3-0.2 keV plus a power law with a photon index of -1.6 ± 0.3. We discuss the radius of the photospheric emission and the main burst emission based on the observational properties. We stress the importance of coordinated observations via various instruments collecting high-quality data over a broad energy coverage in order to understand the GRB prompt emission mechanism

Radiation dose during relativistic electron precipitation events at the International Space Station

AbstractWe provide a quantitative estimate of the radiation dose during relativistic electron precipitation (REP) events at the International Space Station (ISS). To this goal, we take advantage of the data collected by the CALorimetric Electron Telescope, the Monitor of All‐sky X‐ray Image, and the Space Environment Data Acquisition equipment‐Attached Payload. The three ISS detectors offer complementary REP observations, including energy spectra and flux directional information, during a period of approximately 2.5 years, from November 2015 to March 2018. We have identified 762 REP events during this period from which we obtain the distribution of radiation dose, relevant to extravehicular activities outside the ISS
