This study aims to investigate the effect of listening to music with fast and slow tempo onundergraduate student’s attention. Music is used to accompany students in carrying out activitiesin daily life. The results of previous studies have shown that music can be a distraction when theywere doing their work, but other studies have shown that music has no effect on attention. Attentionis the first stage in the cognitive process, which is the starting point for a person’s cognitiveproesses to finally create a memory. In this study, an experiment with within-subject design wascarried out by listening to music with a different tempo when doing an attention test. Fourteenundergraduate students aged 21-23 years were involved in this study by completing 3 forms ofConcentration Grid Test in 3 different conditions, namely while listening to instrumental popmusic with fast tempo, slow tempo, and in a silence. The results of repeated measures ANOVAshowed that there was an effect of tempo on students’ attention with F(2.26) = 6.84, p<0.05. Theresults of the contrast analysis showed that participants who listened to instrumental pop musicwith a slow tempo had a significantly higher score that fast tempo (t = 3.433, p<0.01) and control(t = 2.908, p<0.01), but fast tempo instrumental pop music has no significant difference withcontrol (t = 0.525, p = 0.604). Thus, slow tempo music can increase the attention, but instrumentalpop music with fast tempo does not distract the students. &nbsp

Some people have a habit to listen to music while reading book. The genre and the tempo of the music that people listened to while reading the book may differ. This research is done specifically to understand whether slow tempo classical music may affect undergraduate students’ reading comprehension. This study is experimental research with randomized two-groups design, post-test only. The participants in this research consist of 78 undergraduate students that were divided into two groups, which are experimental group (38 participants) and control group (40 participants) with the age ranged 18-24 years old. The participants were divided into two groups using the randomization technique. The classical music used in this research was called Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy and used TKD-1R to measure reading comprehension. The result of this research showed that classical music, especially with the slow tempo, did not have a significant effect on reading comprehension. The result of this study supported previous research which argued that classical music, specifically slow tempo music, did not interfere with the participants. Therefore, reading activity while listening to music can be done simultaneously. Keywords: classical music, reading comprehension, undergraduate students, slow tempoBeberapa orang memiliki kebiasaan untuk mendengarkan musik sambil membaca buku.

Musical activities carried out by musicians can bring benefits but can also cause discomfort to theextent of causing mental health problems. This condition in general can be reflected through thequality of life of the musicians. The participants of this study were 70 musicians with the agerange of 18-47 years old (Mean=27.94, SD=6.73), and was obtained through accidental sampling. This study aims to examine the predictor role of sex, age, music playing duration, music educationduration, and length of practice per day, on the quality of life of the musicians. Multiple regressionanalysis showed significant results (R2=0.185, F(5,64)=2.907, p<0.05). Predictors thatspecifically significant predicting the quality of life of the musicians are sex, age, and musiceducation duration. Male musicians were reported having a higher quality of life (Mean=89.97,SD=12.60) than the female musicians (Mean=83.97, SD=8.48). The higher the musicians' agesand education duration also predict the higher quality of life. The limitations of this research andrecommendations for further research development are discussed in the discussion part

Reading comprehension is important in the process of studying. Nowadays, low-fidelity (lo-fi) music is claimed to help people study. Lo-fi music is a music aesthetic characterised by the imperfection in recording. Previous research proved that various music can either increase or decrease our reading comprehension ability. No research has been done on the effects of lo-fi music towards reading comprehension. Thus, we conduct an online experimental study on the effects of lo-fi music on the reading comprehension in university students. 100 Jabodetabek students were equally divided into control and experimental groups by randomization. Reading comprehension was tested using a reading subtest from a Cambridge Ordinary Level (O-level) test translated into the Indonesian language. The experimental group did the test while listening to lo-fi music. The control group did the test without listening to any music. The Mann-Whitney U-test concluded that the results failed to reject the null hypothesis [(U=3545, n1=50, n2=50, p>0,05), ΣR1=230, ΣR2=223]. In conclusion, there is no effect of listening to lo-fi music towards reading comprehension in Indonesian Jabodetabek university students. Whilst studying, students may choose to listen to lo-fi music or not.

The objective of this study is to know the subjective well-being comparison between musician and non-musician. Participants of this study are musician and non-musician which is divided based on the musical activity throughout their lifespan, aged 18-40 years with the amounts of 123 participants. Musician is a person who had played a musical instrument on a regular basis for at least 10 years and joined formal musical training with the amounts of 55 participants. Non-musician is a person who had never played music, cannot read music notes, and never received formal musical training with the amounts of 68 participants. Subjective well-being was measured using the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) developed by Diener, Emmons, Larsen, and Griffin (1985) to measure cognitive evaluation and Positive Affect Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) developed by Watson, Clark, and Tellegen (1988) to measure affective evaluation. The result showed that musicians have a higher level of subjective well-being significantly than non-musicians
