Comparative Analysis Between Banking and Insurance Sector on Perception of Transformational Leadership Styles

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in leadership styles prevalent in the public sector with those working in the banking and insurance industries. Cluster variables from both industries included in the analysis are as follows: Idealized influence, inspiring motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration are all components of leadership.   Theoretical Framework: Due to its apparent efficacy, transformational leadership has received a lot of attention from public sector researchers over the past decade. Successful leaders alter their teams by enlisting their followers' help in effecting change. A transformational leader is one who "transforms" their followers by inspiring them to make positive personal and professional shifts.   Design / Methodology / Approach:The study is exploratory research design using Quantitative data collected from the Banking and Insurance sector employees. The study uses a well-structured questionnaire using Likert scale items. The sample was chosen on Convenience basis from 5 select public sector Insurance companies and 5 select public sector Insurance companies. 100 Questionnaires each were distributed and 97 valid responses were selected for banking industry and 90 responses from Insurance Industry were selected for the study. Paired t test using SPSS software was utilised for analysing the data in the study.   Findings:The findings of the study show that there is significant difference between the leadership styles practices in Banking and Insurance industry. The banking sector employees showed a greater inclination towards transformational leadership with higher mean scores and statistically significant outcomes.   Research Implications: Banking and insurance each have their own distinct cultures and management philosophies; as a result, they cannot be studied as a single entity under the umbrella of the BFSI sector. Additional research on the various leadership styles currently in use within the banking and insurance sectors is necessary.   Originality/Value: There are no studies related comparative analysis between Insurance and Banking industry on the leadership styles in Public sector

The study presents the latest findings on truancy among secondary schools in Kota Bharu districts. The study examined the relationship between truancy and disciplinary problems, school atmosphere, family background, peer groups, and the general environment itself The respondents for this study are 100 samples of students out of 1000 problematic students. The results of his study showed that the environment factor as major influence to truancy among the problematic students. Beside that, the study also found that, other factors such as disciplinary problems, school atmosphere, family background, peer groups do influence truancy problems among tlhe students. Therefore, this study recommends few suggestions to overcome this truancy problem where, all the party including parents, schools, society as well as government have to cooperate each other to overcome these truancy problems

MBA University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban 2012.Transitional (major) change is occurring more often today than in the past. The University of KwaZulu-Natal has undergone several major changes in recent years, including a merger, restructuring and staff redeployments. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of these changes on staff employed in the Registrar’s Division and to offer recommendations for recovery or improvement, if any. Arising from this aim, the main objectives were to assess specifically the impact on staff morale, perceptions, attitudes as well as the level of communication during the changes. A probability sample of 50 employees was drawn from within the Registrar’s Division. The population size consisted of 200 staff from all sections of the Registrars Division, i.e Legal Services, Student Academic Administration, Information and Communication and Services, Committees Section as well as the Office of the Registrar. A quantitative study was done and data was collected using a questionnaire that was emailed to the sample group. The questionnaire comprised a likert scale consisting of 29 questions. After several attempts, a response rate of only 46% was obtained. An analysis of the data was conducted using SPSS. The findings highlighted deficiencies in staff morale and perceptions as well as communication during the changes. The findings also implied that positive staff attitudes existed within the Division. The primary recommendations made in this study were, that communication must be immediately enhanced at all levels and that the Division has to immediately embark on change management interventions using models of change. It was further recommended that another study be conducted with a much larger sample size to verify these findings. It was also suggested that an inferential analysis be conducted to assess the correlation between communication between change and staff morale and perceptions

Exploring Neutron-Rich Oxygen Isotopes with MoNA

The Modular Neutron Array (MoNA) was used in conjunction with a large-gap dipole magnet (Sweeper) to measure neutron-unbound states in oxygen isotopes close to the neutron dripline. While no excited states were observed in 24O, a resonance at 45(2) keV above the neutron separation energy was observed in 23O.Comment: 6 pages, 4 Figures, submitted to Proc. Int. The structure of the title compound, C16H15ClO4, contains aryl rings which are inclined by 75.6 (1)° to each other. It displays intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding between the 2-hydroxy and carbonyl groups, forming a six-membered ring. Furthermore, the 4-hydroxy group, acting as a hydrogen-bond donor, is bound to the O atom of the 2-hydroxy group of another molecule

Simultaneous Identification of DNA and RNA Viruses Present in Pig Faeces Using Process-Controlled Deep Sequencing

Background: Animal faeces comprise a community of many different microorganisms including bacteria and viruses. Only scarce information is available about the diversity of viruses present in the faeces of pigs. Here we describe a protocol, which was optimized for the purification of the total fraction of viral particles from pig faeces. The genomes of the purified DNA and RNA viruses were simultaneously amplified by PCR and subjected to deep sequencing followed by bioinformatic analyses. The efficiency of the method was monitored using a process control consisting of three bacteriophages (T4, M13 and MS2) with different morphology and genome types. Defined amounts of the bacteriophages were added to the sample and their abundance was assessed by quantitative PCR during the preparation procedure. Results: The procedure was applied to a pooled faecal sample of five pigs. From this sample, 69,613 sequence reads were generated. All of the added bacteriophages were identified by sequence analysis of the reads. In total, 7.7 % of the reads showed significant sequence identities with published viral sequences. They mainly originated from bacteriophages (73.9%) and mammalian viruses (23.9%); 0.8 % of the sequences showed identities to plant viruses. The most abundant detected porcine viruses were kobuvirus, rotavirus C, astrovirus, enterovirus B, sapovirus and picobirnavirus. In addition, sequences with identities to the chimpanzee stool-associated circular ssDNA virus were identified. Whole genome analysis indicates that this virus, tentatively designated as pig stool-associated circular ssDNA virus (PigSCV), represents a novel pi
