This case study examined the student transfer process between a community college, Tulsa Community College (TCC) and an urban higher education institution, Oklahoma State University - Tulsa (OSU-Tulsa), in conjunction with the state articulation agreement in order to determine its effect on potential or actual transfer students. The primary questions of interest were; 1) How has the current TCC/OSU-Tulsa student transfer policy affected the TCC Associate of Science majors? 2) From an institutional perspective, what can be done at TCC and/or OSU-Tulsa to improve the student transfer process? The methodology utilized quantitative and qualitative data collection that involved the assemblage of student data and in-depth interviews respectively. Quantitative collection consisted of statistical data, institutional and state transfer policies acquired from TCC, OSU-Tulsa, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) databases and national publications. Qualitative interviews involved 15 participants. Interviews were seven advisors/coordinator and eight associate of science transfer studentsFindings and Conclusions: This study argues that the student transfer process is not congruent with the expectations of the state student transfer policy. Self-interest theory was then applied to the thesis in order to provide a framework to explain: (1) Does the theory help to reveal something about the problem?; and (2) Does the theory help in developing strategies for solutions? Among key findings students noted instances that cost them time, money and credit hours; Advisors/Coordinator noted systemic problems; and although concerns were mainly institutional matters, the state Articulation of Transfer Students Agreement also adversely that affected the student transfer process. Quantitative findings revealed a lack of uniform information between the state and the institutions it oversees. Qualitative findings revealed several themes: missed opportunities for students due to inadequate leadership; miscommunication; and lack of consistency. These themes were analyzed utilizing self-interest theory, and recommendations for reform and further research were presented.School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadershi

Analisis Sektor Basis Dalam Hubungannya Dengan Penyerapan Tenaga Kerja Di Kabupaten Batang Hari

The purpose of the study is to (1) analyze the economy sector which become basis sector with its development rates in Batang Hari Regency, (2) the correlation between the developments of basis sector with employment and to (3) analyze the policy of local government on developing that basis sector through bibliography methods on secondary PDRB data according to constant price 2000 of Batang Hari Regency and Jambi Province from 2003 to 2012 and also employment data in the same periods and regency. This analysis uses Location Quotient (LQ) model and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) model. Whereas the correlation between the developments of basis sector with employment uses Pearson\u27s Coefficient Of Correlation. The output of LQ analysis shows that there are four economy sectors as basis sector (LQ >1) in Batang Hari, which are agricultures, industry and manufactures, trades, hotels, restaurants, and another distinction service. While from the DLQ analysis, there are four sectors identified can be a basis sector in the future (DLQ >1), which are mining and excavation, electricity, gases and fresh water, transportation and communications, and distinction sectors. Only distinction sector which is identified as basis sector nowadays as well as in the future. From the study of the PDRB rate in Batang Hari from 2003 to 2013 shows that average growth rate of agriculture, industry and manufactures, trades, hotels and restaurants are relatively smaller than other sectors in Batang Hari, excluding distinction sectors which are higher. Pearson\u27s Coefficient Of Correlation analysis evinces there only two basis sectors which its growth has a strong and positive correlation with employment in Batang Hari, which are distinction and trades with hotels and restaurants. The PDRB growth of these sectors moving in the direction of the employment rates. In the agriculture and manufacture industry sectors, the correlation with employment is low and very weak

Feasibility analysis of channel equalizers using Kharitonov-type results

Necessary and sufficient conditions for determining the robust location of the roots of a family of polynomials are presented. This family appears when multipath fading channels are considered due to the uncertainty in the channel impulse response. The uncertainty is reflected by means of confidence intervals for the channel parameters. A feasibility analysis of digital equalizers is performed in the frequency domain to determine whether the poles are to be found in a prespecified region of the complex plane. The resulting tests, which can be carried out in a graphical manner, are both analysis and design tools, which can help to decide the suitable length of a constrained equalizer. The analysis method presented resolves the location of the poles on a zero-forcing equalizer structure

Notch Simultaneously Orchestrates Multiple Helper T Cell Programs Independently of Cytokine Signals

SummaryTwo models are proposed to explain Notch function during helper T (Th) cell differentiation. One argues that Notch instructs one Th cell fate over the other, whereas the other posits that Notch function is dictated by cytokines. Here we provide a detailed mechanistic study investigating the role of Notch in orchestrating Th cell differentiation. Notch neither instructed Th cell differentiation nor did cytokines direct Notch activity, but instead, Notch simultaneously regulated the Th1, Th2, and Th17 cell genetic programs independently of cytokine signals. In addition to regulating these programs in both polarized and nonpolarized Th cells, we identified Ifng as a direct Notch target. Notch bound the Ifng CNS-22 enhancer, where it synergized with Tbet at the promoter. Thus, Notch acts as an unbiased amplifier of Th cell differentiation. Our data provide a paradigm for Notch in hematopoiesis, with Notch simultaneously orchestrating multiple lineage programs, rather than restricting alternate outcomes

IL-22 mediates goblet cell hyperplasia and worm expulsion in intestinal helminth infection.

Type 2 immune responses are essential in protection against intestinal helminth infections. In this study we show that IL-22, a cytokine important in defence against bacterial infections in the intestinal tract, is also a critical mediator of anti-helminth immunity. After infection with Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, a rodent hookworm, IL-22-deficient mice showed impaired worm expulsion despite normal levels of type 2 cytokine production. The impaired worm expulsion correlated with reduced goblet cell hyperplasia and reduced expression of goblet cell markers. We further confirmed our findings in a second nematode model, the murine whipworm Trichuris muris. T.muris infected IL-22-deficient mice had a similar phenotype to that seen in N.brasiliensis infection, with impaired worm expulsion and reduced goblet cell hyperplasia. Ex vivo and in vitro analysis demonstrated that IL-22 is able to directly induce the expression of several goblet cell markers, including mucins. Taken together, our findings reveal that IL-22 plays an important role in goblet cell activation, and thus, a key role in anti-helminth immunity
