Pesquisa qualitativo-descritiva, realizada em um hospital universitário do Rio de Janeiro, entre agosto de 2007 a dezembro de 2008. Objetivou-se descrever os cuidados de enfermagem, caracterizando-os a partir das concepções de 26 clientes hospitalizados, sujeitos da pesquisa. Conjugou-se a técnica de criatividade e sensibilidade "Almanaque" com a entrevista na produção de dados, seguida de análise de conteúdo temática da qual emergiu a categoria "Dimensões do cuidado de enfermagem na ótica dos sujeitos: técnico-científica e expressiva". Os resultados apontaram que estas dimensões devem se manifestar de forma articulada, sendo o cuidado concebido como integral e construído na relação com o outro. Os sujeitos valorizam e defendem a aliança entre tais dimensões, e esperam que a enfermeira possa integrá-las nas ações de cuidado. O conhecimento acerca das concepções de clientes sobre os cuidados no hospital colabora na promoção de ambiente que favoreça sua restauração através da efetividade do cuidado, gerada nessa relação.<br>Esta investigación cualitativa y descriptiva objetivó describir los cuidados de enfermería caracterizados a partir de concepciones de 26 clientes hospitalizados. Fue realizada en un hospital universitario del Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, entre agosto de 2007 y diciembre de 2008. La técnica de creatividad y sensibilidad "Almanaque" y entrevista fueron utilizadas para producción de los datos, los cuales fueron analizados por análisis de contenido temático. La categoría "Dimensiones del cuidado de enfermería bajo la óptica de los sujetos: técnico-científica y expresiva". Los resultados mostraron que estas dimensiones deben manifestarse de forma coordinada, con cuidado integral y construido en la relación con el otro. Los sujetos valorizan y defienden la alianza entre tales dimensiones, y esperan que la enfermera pueda integrarlas en las acciones de cuidado. Conocer las concepciones de clientes sobre los cuidados en el hospital colabora para promover un ambiente que favorezca su restauración a través de la efectividad del cuidado.<br>This qualitative-descriptive study was carried out in a school hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 2007 to December 2008. Nursing care was described and characterized based on the perceptions of 26 hospitalized patients. Data collection was carried out through interviews and the "Almanac" creative and sensitivity technique, followed by thematic content analysis from which the following category emerged: "Nursing care dimensions from the subjects' perspectives: scientific-technical and expressive". The results show that these dimensions should be manifested in a coordinated way and integral care should be designed and constructed in the relationship with the other. The participants value and defend an alliance between these dimensions and expect nurses to integrate them into care actions. Knowledge about the patients' perceptions concerning hospital care collaborates to the promotion of the environment and favors its restoration through effective care generated in this relationship

The western south atlantic ocean in a high-CO2 world: current measurement capabilities and perspectives

An international multi-disciplinary group of 24 researchers met to discuss ocean acidification (OA) during the Brazilian OA Network/Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study (BrOA/SOLAS) Workshop. Fifteen members of the BrOA Network (www. broa. furg. br) authored this review. The group concluded that identifying and evaluating the regional effects of OA is impossible without understanding the natural variability of seawater carbonate systems in marine ecosystems through a series of long-term observations. Here, we show that the western South Atlantic Ocean (WSAO) lacks appropriate observations for determining regional OA effects, including the effects of OA on key sensitive Brazilian ecosystems in this area. The impacts of OA likely affect marine life in coastal and oceanic ecosystems, with further social and economic consequences for Brazil and neighboring countries. Thus, we present (i) the diversity of coastal and open ocean ecosystems in the WSAO and emphasize their roles in the marine carbon cycle and biodiversity and their vulnerabilities to OA effects; (ii) ongoing observational, experimental, and modeling efforts that investigate OA in the WSAO; and (iii) highlights of the knowledge gaps, infrastructure deficiencies, and OA-related issues in the WSAO. Finally, this review outlines long-term actions that should be taken to manage marine ecosystems in this vast and unexplored ocean region
