[EN] Microbial inactivation is of great interest in the food industry, due to the need to guarantee the quality and safety of the products consumed by the population. Nowadays, liquid foods processing for inactivation of microorganisms on an industrial scale is mainly carried out by thermal treatments that reach high temperatures (T), greater than 100ºC. However, these temperatures cause loss of flavors and nutrients, which are essential in the final product. In addition, conventional thermal treatments involve high processing time (t) and energy costs. For this reason, microbial inactivation is of great interest for investigation in the food industry. In this way, new non thermal inactivation technologies, which are more efficient, are being studied. Some examples of them are ultrasounds, high hydrostatic pressures, pulsed electric fields (PEF) or moderate electric fields (MEF). The MEF technology used in this study is based on the application of electric fields lower than 1 kV/cm at relatively moderate temperatures (usually lower than 100ºC). Despite the relevance of the application of these microbial inactivation technologies in the food industry, other uses are not discarded, such as for microbial inactivation in serum or physiological fluids for pharmaceutical industries. Thus, the objective of the present work was the study of the inactivation of A.niger spores in an emulsion with MEF technology. For this purpose, temperature-time profiles at different voltages and frequencies were applied. Results showed greater efficacy (p 6 logarithmic cycles) of A.niger spores in an emulsion was reached. However, it is necessary to highlight that the effects of voltage and frequency have not been significant (p>0,05) in the ranges considered in the present study. Additionally, it would be necessary to study the effect of the treatment on the quality of the treated emulsion.Lozano Aroca, MA. (2021). This research was made with the Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios, Vicerrectoría Llanos in 2017, the subject of this project were the students of the Psychology program. The purpose of this research was to identify any type of gender violence against men, to made this was necessary to establish whether students were able to identify gender violence against men and then the different forms of it, from the information collected through focus groups it was found that the students of the Psychology program actually identify the presence of gender violence against men in the same ways that is present against women, but they also found that there are no the same attention, support and protection from the institutions in charge. Men also have some limitations in behavior, attitude, gesture and the way they show their feelings, as a result of the parental and family education, these limitations are taught to boys since their childhood what gives a poor psycho-social development. Another main problem within the gender violence against men is that they don’t denounce the attacks, being the principal reasons: shame, lack of knowledge to take a proper legal procedure, social stigma, etc

Cysteine and cysteine-related signaling pathways in arabidopsis thaliana

    Get PDF
Cysteine occupies a central position in plant metabolism because it is a reduced sulfur donor molecule involved in the synthesis of essential biomolecules and defense compounds. Moreover, cysteine per se and its derivative molecules play roles in the redox signaling of processes occurring in various cellular compartments. Cysteine is synthesized during the sulfate assimilation pathway via the incorporation of sulfide to O-acetylserine, catalyzed by O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase (OASTL). Plant cells contain OASTLs in the mitochondria, chloroplasts, and cytosol, resulting in a complex array of isoforms and subcellular cysteine pools. In recent years, significant progress has been made in Arabidopsis, in determining the specific roles of the OASTLs and the metabolites produced by them. Thus, the discovery of novel enzymatic activities of the less-abundant, like DES1 with L-cysteine desulfhydrase activity and SCS with S-sulfocysteine synthase activity, has provided new perspectives on their roles, besides their metabolic functions. Thereby, the research has been demonstrated that cytosolic sulfide and chloroplastic S-sulfocysteine act as signaling molecules regulating autophagy and protecting the photosystems, respectively. In the cytosol, cysteine plays an essential role in plant immunity; in the mitochondria, this molecule plays a central role in the detoxification of cyanide, which is essential for root hair development and plant responses to pathogens.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad BIO2010-15201Junta de Andalucía CVI-719

Signaling in the plant cytosol: cysteine or sulfide?

    Get PDF
Cysteine (Cys) is the first organic compound containing reduced sulfur that is synthesized in the last stage of plant photosynthetic assimilation of sulfate. It is a very important metabolite not only because it is crucial for the structure, function and regulation of proteins but also because it is the precursor molecule of an enormous number of sulfur-containing metabolites essential for plant health and development. The biosynthesis of Cys is accomplished by the sequential reaction of serine acetyltransferase (SAT) and O-acetylserine(thiol)synthase (OASTL). In Arabidopsis thaliana, the analysis of specific mutants of members of the SAT and OASTL families has demonstrated that the cytosol is the compartment where the bulk of Cys synthesis takes place and that the cytosolic OASTL enzyme OAS-A1 is the responsible enzyme. Another member of the OASTL family is DES1, a novel L-cysteine desulfhydrase that catalyzes the desulfuration of Cys to produce sulfide, thus acting in a manner opposite to that of OAS-A1. Detailed studies of the oas-a1 and des1 null mutants have revealed the involvement of the DES1 and OAS-A1 proteins in coordinate regulation of Cys homeostasis and the generation of sulfide in the cytosol for signaling purposes. Thus, the levels of Cys in the cytosol strongly affect plant responses to both abiotic and biotic stress conditions, while sulfide specifically generated from the degradation of Cys negatively regulates autophagy induced in different situations. In conclusion, modulation of the levels of Cys and sulfide is likely critical for plant performance

Point-of-care devices technology are a promising way towards the recognition of pathogens in early-stage diagnosis, which is critical for the success of inexpensive treatments as opposed to the high costs of managing the disease. The integration of immunoassays with read out circuitry allows the implementation of diagnostic devices for their use by untrained personnel, without compromising reliability. In the following chapter, three different biosensors based on lab-on-a-chip (LoC) and microfluidic technologies were designed, assembled and tested for pathogen diagnosis. The devices allowed the effective detection of the human papilloma virus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Chagas parasite in shorter times and with smaller sample volumes than those required by current clinical diagnosis techniques. All devices were benchmarked against commercial techniques in terms of cost and time requirement per test
