Biodiversity Conservation in Botanical Gardens: The Collection of Pinaceae Representatives in the Greenhouses of Peter the Great Botanical Garden (BIN RAN)

The work researches the role of botanical gardens in biodiversity conservation. It cites the total number of rare and endangered plants in the greenhouse collection of Peter the Great Botanical garden (BIN RAN). The greenhouse collection of Pinaceae representatives has been analysed, provided with a short description of family, genus and certain species, presented in the collection. The article highlights the importance of Pinaceae for various industries, decorative value of plants of this group, the worth of the pinaceous as having environment-improving properties. In the greenhouses there are 37 species of Pinaceae, of 7 geni, all species have a conservation status: CR – 2 species, EN – 3 species, VU- 3 species, NT – 4 species, LC – 25 species. For most species it is indicated what causes depletion. Most often it is the destruction of natural habitats, uncontrolled clearance, insect invasion and diseases

Détérioration de la vision des couleurs chez les alcooliques chroniques

Ispitali smo vidne funkcije kod 16 kroničnih alkoholičara koje smo usporedili s nalazima vidnih funkcija kontrolne skupine od 16 nealkoholičara, iste dobi i spola. Uz detaljan klinički pregled oka ispitali smo ove vidne funkcije: vidnu oštrinu, vidno polje, pokretljivost bulbomotora te kolorni vid. Kolorni vid smo ispitali: Ishihara tablicama, anomaloskopom Nagel I i testom 40 Hue-Lanthony. Ustanovili smo najveća oštećenja kolornog vida (8 slučajeva), zatim vidnog polja (4) i vidne oštrine (3). Od testova za ispitivanje kolornog vida najveću osjetljivost je pokazao test 40 Hue-Lanthony. On je otkrio patološke vrijednosti u 50% ispitanika iz skupine alkoholičara, dok su u kontrolnoj skupini patološke vrijednosti testa utvrđene u samo jednog ispitanika.Nous avons étudié les fonctions de la vue chez 16 alcooliques chroniques. Puis nous avons comparé les résultats obtenus avec les analyses des fonctions visuelles chez un groupe de contrôle de 16 non-alcooliques; ces personnes étant toutes de même âge et même sexe. Au cours d\u27un examen clinique détaillé de I\u27oeil, nous avons examiné les fonctions visuelles suivantes: l\u27acuité visuelle, le champ visuel, la motilité des bulbomoteurs et la vision des couleurs. Cette dernière a été examinée par les moyens suivants: l\u27atlas d\u27Ishihara, l\u27anomaloscope de Nagel I et le test 40 de Hue-Lanthony. Il en résulte que les plus importantes détériorations constatées se rapportent au domaine de la vision des couleurs (8 cas), puis au champ visuel (4 cas) et à l\u27acuité visuelle (3 cas). C\u27est le test 40 de Hue-Lanthony qui, parmi les tests utilisés pour le contrôle de la vision des couleurs a montré le plus de sensibilité. En effet, ce test a découvert des valeurs pathologiques dans 50% des cas, alors que pour le groupe de contrôle ce pourcentage n\u27était que de 6,2%. Ceci est le rapport préliminaire d\u27une étude plus élaborée dans laquelle nous analysons nos résultats

van der Waals density functional calculations of binding in molecular crystals

A recent paper [J. Chem. Phys. 132, 134705 (2010)] illustrated the potential of the van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF) method [Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 246401 (2004)] for efficient first-principle accounts of structure and cohesion in molecular crystals. Since then, modifications of the original vdW-DF version (identified as vdW-DF1) has been proposed, and there is also a new version called vdW-DF2 [ArXiv 1003.5255], within the vdW-DF framework. Here we investigate the performance and nature of the modifications and the new version for the binding of a set of simple molecular crystals: hexamine, dodecahedrane, C60, and graphite. These extended systems provide benchmarks for computational methods dealing with sparse matter. We show that a previously documented enhancement of non-local correlations of vdW-DF1 over an asymptotic atom-based account close to and a few A, beyond binding separation persists in vdW-DF2. The calculation and analysis of the binding in molecular crystals requires appropriate computational tools. In this paper, we also present details on our real-space parallel implementation of the vdW-DF correlation and on the method used to generate asymptotic atom-based pair potentials based on vdW-DF.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
