The rapid development of Islamic philanthropic activism in Indonesia has drawn much attention among scholars, practitioners, and policy makers. It appears that efforts to promote Islamic philanthropic activism as a means of fostering social justice have been done by civil society organizations and the state\u27s agencies. It can be seen partly in the motives and objectives of Islamic philanthropic associations, as well as regulations enacted by the state regarding the practice of Islamic philanthropy since independent era until nowadays. It suggests that the philanthropic culture in Muslim societies is no longer governed in a traditional way, or simply to relieve the poor. Instead, it is expected that through the culture of giving, poverty can be alleviated, and Islamic associations can provide long-term development projects. However, in reality, these efforts to promote social justice have been constrained by several factors, including social, economic and political factors, and therefore enduring and systematic efforts from the state\u27s actors and civil society, to promote social justice are, still needed

Neoliberalism in Colombian education:a critical discourse analysis of the “Decennial National Plan of Education 2016–2026: the road to quality and equity”

Abstract. The communism vs neoliberalism battle is not new to Latin America, and after a long process, it has resulted in turning anything related to socialism/communism into a sort of taboo in Colombia. It is in this context that neoliberal ideas have had freeway in Colombian policies and reforms, reaching the point where, all of what those ideas represent, is taken for granted, mostly criticized in terms of their positive or negative results, but only in few cases, deeply analyzed and questioned for their ideological nature. For this reason, in this thesis I made a critical analysis of the neoliberal discourse present in the policy document “Decennial National Plan of Education 2016–2026: the road to quality and equity”, which is the “roadmap” for Colombian education for the decade 2016–2026. To do so, the second chapter presented a theoretical framework of the meaning of discourse and ideology, and their relation to social constructivism and institutions, mostly based on the theories developed by Michel Foucault, Norman Fairclough and Teun Van Dijk. The third chapter introduced neoliberalism as an ideology, to later show its history in Colombia and its education. Several national and international policies and documents that have been influential in the introduction of neoliberalism to the system, were presented from my perspective and the perspective of different Colombian authors. The following chapter presented my critical stance, to later show the methodology used to analyze the selected document, based on Critical Discourse Analysis. Finally, the last chapters showed my findings and conclusions. While analyzing the document, I found four main points: (1) there is an important direct influence of multinational organisms from the creation to the final evaluation of the document; (2) the document presents a strong neoliberal lexicon; (3) education, quality education, and human development are presented as the solution to several socioeconomic problems; and (4) throughout the sections of the document, the neoliberal discourse goes through a “institutional machinery” that contributes to naturalizing it in the Colombian society. Finally, I presented a short critique on the lack of self-criticism of the discourse, as well as a critique to the hegemony of neoliberalism as the dominant paradigm

Evaluation of corrosion resistance of multi-layered Ti/gass-ceramic interfaces by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

Practical applications of metal/ceramic joints can be found in the biomedical field regarding the encapsulation of implantable telemetric devices, the fabrication of crowns and bridges for dental restoration, or in the production of drug delivery systems, biomedical sensors and electrodes. Most of metal/ceramic joints are produced by the active metal brazing technique, which originates a multi-layered interface which should be able of accommodating the abrupt electronic, crystallographic, chemical, mechanical and thermo-mechanical discontinuity that characterize these systems. Additionally, when considering biomedical applications, corrosion resistance becomes of prime importance. In this work, the corrosion resistance of Ti/glass-ceramic interfaces obtained by active metal brazing was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. The electrochemical behaviour of the interface was monitored, as a function of time, in a simulated physiological solution at room temperature. In order to evaluate the contribution of each layer and galvanic interactions between them, to the degradation mechanism of the interface, individual samples, representative of reaction layers present at the interface, were fabricated and electrochemically ested. Results show that the corrosion behaviour, of the whole interface was strongly influenced by the chemical composition of its constitutive layers. Thus, layers containing high contents of both titanium and silver showed a polarisation resistance increase with the immersion time, as a result of the formation of a thermodynamically stable passive film. On the other hand, the copper rich layer, appears to be the main responsible for the interface degradation. In fact, for high immersion times, an instable passive film is formed and, as a consequence, large amounts of copper are released. Galvanic interactions between the copper and the silver rich layers where also dentified.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), Portugal Portugal (projects POCTI/CTM/33384/2000 and SFRH/BPD/5518/2001)

This study aims to find out the result of student learning, teacher and student activity, the ability of teachers in managing learning and students' response to the application of the generative learning model. This research is a type of class action (PTK) and the approach used in this research is descriptive statistical approach. The subjects of study were students of class IX.4 SMPN 8 Banda Aceh the school year 2016/2017 totaling 21 people. Data collection instruments used in this study is a test and non test. Test instruments in the form of matter pretest and posttest, whereas the non-test instrument in the form of sheets of teacher and student activity observation, sheets teacher's ability in managing learning and sheet of student responses of learning. The fourth non-test instrument are analyzed using percentages. The results showed an increase in student learning outcomes on an individual basis from 57% to 89% and classical completeness also increased from 60% to reach 87.5%. The increase also occurred in the activities of teachers and students. The ability of teachers in managing learning increases from good to be excellent category. In addition, the students' response to learning is also very well where 90% of students said he was happy of generative learning model application using the virtual laboratory. Based on this research can be concluded that the application of the generative learning model by using virtual labs can improve student learning results, increasing the activity of teachers and students, increasing the teacher's ability in managing learning in a dynamic electrical lesson
