Single standard calibration and data processing in flow injection titration based on concentration gradients

This paper describes use of gradients of concentration generated in flow injection (FI) systems to perform determinations based on points where the concentration of titrant and analyte are at stoichiometric ratio. Two procedures were developed. In one procedure the titrant is injected in a FI manifold and merges with the sample which is continuously pumped towards the detector. In the other procedure the sample is injected and merged with the titrant which is continuously pumped. Both techniques make use of concentration gradients of the sample or titrant generated in FI manifolds that contain a mixing chamber. This gradient is calibrated employing only one standard solution (usually the titrant) in order to convert any detector signal, obtained in the elapsed time after injection, to instantaneous concentration values. The flow system is microcomputer controlled and data are treated to locate points where the concentration of titrant and analyte are at the stoichiometric ratio. These points are found in abrupt changes of the signal × concentration curves obtained in the presence of the reaction. The method has been evaluated for determination of Fe(II) and acetic acid by spectrophotometric and conductimetric detection, respectively. Results show a mean relative standard deviation lower than 1%, an average accuracy of 1% and a high sampling processing capability (40 to 60 samples per hour)

It is through the application of an electronic partition approach called Symmetry-Adapted Perturbation Theory (SAPT) that the nature of hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions can be unveiled according to the contribution of electrostatic, charge transfer, exchange repulsion, polarization, and dispersion terms. Among these, electrostatic partition governs the formation of the hydrogen bonds, whose energies are arguably high. However, the weakness of the interaction strength is caused by dispersion forces, whose contribution decisively lead to the stabilization of complexes formed via van der Waals interactions

Produtividade e análise de indicadores técnicos do maracujazeiro-amarelo irrigado em diferentes horários.

Diante da necessidade de pesquisas sobre o manejo da irrigação em horários alternativos e com menor custo com eletricidade na produção do maracujá-amarelo irrigado objetivou-se, com esta pesquisa, avaliar os efeitos do fracionamento da irrigação em diferentes horários de aplicação sobre a produtividade e qualidade do fruto do maracujazeiro-amarelo tal como, também, a quantificação de indicadores técnicos; para tanto se conduziu um experimento no município de Pentecoste, CE, no período de setembro de 2009 a agosto de 2010, no delineamento em blocos ao acaso com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos corresponderam aos horários de aplicação da lâmina de água requerida (LR) pela cultura (T1: 100% da LR às 07 h; T2: 50% da LR às 07 h e 50% da LR às 15 h; T3: 25% da LR às 07 h; 50% da LR às 15 h e 25% da LR às 21 h 30 min; T4: 100% da LR às 21 h 30 min: T5: 50% da LR às 07 h e 50% da LR às 21 h 30 min). De acordo com os resultados a aplicação fracionada da lâmina de água requerida pela cultura com 50% às 07 h e 50% às 21 h 30 min, foi a alternativa que proporcionou a maior produtividade do maracujazeiro; os atributos de qualidade dos frutos de maracujazeiro sólidos solúveis totais e pH se mantiveram indiferentes quanto aos tratamentos

The proposed orthosis is an orthopedical device with the main objective of providing walking capacity to people with partial or total loss of limbs movements. In order to design the kinematics, dynamics and the mechanical characteristics of the prototype, the biomechanics of the human body was analized. The orthosis was projected to reproduce the movements of human gait. The movements of the joints of the orthosis are controlled by DC motors equipped with mechanical reductions, whose purpose is to reduce rotational speed and increase the torque, thus generating smooth movements. An embedded electronic system for sensory data acquisition and motor control was projected. Coexistence of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in the Anderson lattice

We study the interplay between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in a generalized infinite-$U$ Anderson lattice, where both superconductivity and antiferromagnetic order are introduced phenomenologically in mean field theory. In a certain regime, a quantum phase transition is found which is characterized by an abrupt expulsion of magnetic order by d-wave superconductivity, as externally applied pressure increases. This transition takes place when the d-wave superconducting critical temperature, $T_c$, intercepts the magnetic critical temperature, $T_m$, under increasing pressure. Calculations of the quasiparticle bands and density of states in the ordered phases are presented. We calculate the optical conductivity $\sigma(\omega)$ in the clean limit. It is shown that when the temperature drops below $T_m$ a double peak structure develops in $\sigma(\omega)$.Comment: 18 pages, 13 figure
