Background: Patellofemoral joint management during total knee replacement remains a controversial topic among knee surgeons. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of resurfaced patellar component tilt on the functional outcome of total knee arthroplasty. Methods: This is a retrospective study reviewing all the patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty in our institution, operated by a single surgeon using a single implant design. Results: A total of 48 patients and 82 knees were enrolled into this study. Patients were evaluated by Oxford knee score, knee society score, Melbourne patellar score, anteroposterior, lateral, and Merchant’s view radiographs. The patellar tilt was divided into three grades according the measurement obtained from knee radiographs. Conclusions: A higher degree of patella tilt (more than 10 degree) is associated with poor outcome following total knee arthroplasty. Melbourne patella score is more sensitive than knee society score and Oxford score in assessing the effect of patella tilt on the outcome of total knee arthroplasty

The variability of sagittal spino-pelvic mobility in Indian population

Background: Abnormal spino-pelvic mobility is increasingly recognized as a leading cause for hip instability following arthroplasty. Methods: We studied the lateral spino-pelvic radiographs of 90 patients, with no spine/hip pathology in standing and sitting positions. We measured the change in sacral slope and grouped them into three spino-pelvic patterns. Results: We found that 50% of study subjects had normal spino-pelvic mobility. The remaining 50% were either hypermobile (24%) or stiff (26%). The stiff spines were either fixed (11%) or hypomobile (15%).Conclusions: Our study shows that in a normal population without any prior hip/spine pathology a significant percentage (50%) have abnormal spino-pelvic mobility. The significance of spinal stiffness in younger age group need to be looked further to make any changes in acetabular cup placement during hip replacement

Structure and stability of glucoamylase II from Aspergillus niger: a circular dichroism study

Glucoamylase II (EC 3.2.1.3) from Aspergillus niger has 31 % α-helix, 36 % β-structure and rest aperiodic structure at pH 4.8 as analysed by the method of Provencher and Glockner (1981,Biochemistry, 20,33). In the near ultra-violet circular dichroism spectrum the enzyme exhibits peaks at 304, 289, 282 and 257 nm and troughs at 285, 277 and 265 nm respectively. The enzyme activity and structure showed greater stability at pH 4.8 than at pH 7.0, were highly sensitive to alkaline pH but less sensitive to acid pH values. The enzyme retained most of its catalytic activity and structure even on partial removal of carbohydrate moieties by periodate treatment but was less stable at higher temperatures and storage at 30‡C. Reduction of the periodate treated enzyme did not reverse the loss of stability. Binding of the synthetic substrate, p-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucoside, perturbed the environment around aromatic amino acids and caused a decrease in the ordered structure

Results from the Indo-USSR ozonesonde intercomparison experiment

A total of seventeen vertical profiles of ozone were obtained during an Indo-USSR collaborative experiment on ozonesonde intercomparison conducted at Thumba during March 1983. The vertical distribution of ozone was measured using rocket-borne, balloon-borne as well as ground-based instruments. Four different rocket ozonesondes from India and USSR and the balloon ozonesonde were used to makein situ observations of ozone concentrations in addition to the Dobson spectrophotometric observations of total ozone and Umkehr. The rocket and the balloon launchings were effected in three salvos and measurements were made at different times of the day as well as during night. The results of all these measurements are used to obtain a mean ozone vertical distribution over Thumba foT the spring equinoxial period. The mean profile shows the maximum ozone concentration at 27 km with a value of (3.86±0-52)×1012 molecules per cc. Comparison of this mean profile with available satellite data for the equatorial regions shows that, in general, the Thumba values are lower by 10–15% at altitudes below 40 km and larger at altitudes above 50 km compared to the satellite results. The data also show evidence for a day-to-day variability and a possible day-to-night variability in the ozone vertical distribution with the night-time values higher than the daytime values at all altitudes above 35 km and the difference is found to increase with the increasing altitude

Short-Term History Based Authentication Using Smartphone Sensors and Apps

Secrete-QA could be a security primarily based application. A security question is asked once the user fails to login or forgets his/her password and to reset the password. A security question could be a secondary authentication, but these queries is guessed simply by an admirer or exposed to a strangers who might recognize our personal info like friends, relations or those that will access our personal info through public on-line tools. We will build these security queries additional customized by using the privilege of accessing our Smartphone sensors and apps while not affecting the user’s privacy. Three types of questions are generated that is, Yes/No questions, Multiple Choice questions and WH questions. An android app is created for the frequent updating of the Smartphone data and questions are asked in the web part using this updated data. The questions are generated by considering the legacy apps, GPS, calendar, app details etc. These have the mostmemorability to the users and high robustness to attacks
