    RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB SATISFACTION AND COMMITMENT AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL COUNSELLORS IN ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

    The study was conducted to determine the relationship between job satisfaction and job commitment among secondary school Counsellors in Anambra State, Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. Correlational research design was adopted by the researcher. A total of 188 secondary school Counsellors formed the population of the study. Findings from the study showed among others, that secondary school Counsellors in Anambra State are satisfied and committed to their job. The researcher made some recommendations which include; designing counselling job in such a way that it will be more challenging for counsellors to take responsibilities of their job outcomes.  Article visualizations

    Enhancing Guidance Services in Secondary Schools in Anambra State through the use of Information Communication Technology

    In our economy today, information and communication technology has become the choice of many individuals in information assessment and dissemination. Guidance services provided at any level is aimed at assisting a client discover their own hidden strengths and ultimately grow in independence and ability make decisions, choices or adjustments in future unaided, hence the relevance of guidance services cannot be side lined. However this study was surveyed enhancing guidance services in secondary schools in Anambra state through the use of information communication technology. Five research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of 243 guidance counsellors in government owned secondary schools in Anambra State. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The reliability of the instrument was computed using Cronbach Alpha and yielded a co-efficient of 0.78. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. Findings showed that guidance counsellors in secondary schools in Anambra state “Always” use call-centers/hotline and video conferencing to enhance guidance services and “Rarely” use computer graphics, instructional satellite, and web television to enhance guidance services. The researchers recommended among others that Guidance counsellors who are not digital native should be mobilized for workshops, conferences and training on the use of innovative ICT tools to enhance guidance service delivery in secondary schools in Anambra state.     RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-EFFICACY AND MARITAL SATISFACTION OF MARRIED TEACHERS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

    Marriages being a legal union between a man and a woman that is supposed to produce a satisfactory relationship in which the couple involved can experience marital satisfaction. This study sought to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and marital satisfaction of married teachers in Anambra state. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study while one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Correlational research design was used in conducting the study. A sample size of 1,344 married teachers was drawn from a population of 6,987 married teachers in Anambra state public secondary schools. A multi-stage sampling procedure was followed selecting the sample. Two instruments: General Self-efficacy Scale and Index of Marital Satisfaction (IMS) were adopted and used for data collection. The instruments are standardised measures and have the following reliability coefficient; 0.96 for IMS, 0.87 and for GSS. Data was collected through direct delivery approach. Data collected were analysed using SPSS version 23. Pearson correlation coefficients and regression analysis were used to answer research questions and test the hypotheses. Findings of the study showed among others that there is very low or no relationship existing between married teachers’ Self-efficacy belief and their marital satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended, among others that counselors interested in marriage therapy should empower married teachers to follow behaviour and activities that foster marital happiness through occasional lectures and counselling sessions.     EFFECTS OF PSYCHOEDUCATION TECHNIQUE ON EXAMINATION MISCONDUCT TENDENCIES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

    This study sought to examine the effects of psychoeducation technique on secondary school students’ examination misconduct tendencies in Anambra State. Four research questions were generated to guide the study and four null hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 level of significance. The design of the study was a quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group design involving an experimental groups and a control group. The sample consisted of 165 senior secondary school (SSS) class II students selected through purposive sampling technique. The students were exposed to the experimental and control treatments for six weeks. The instrument used for the study was the Examination Misconduct Tendencies Scale (EMTS) which was administered as a pre and posttest. Means, standard deviation and analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data. Major findings of the study showed that psychoeducation technique had significant effect on the reduction of students’ examination misconduct tendencies. It was also effective on the reduction of the examination misconduct tendencies of students in various age groups. It was also found out that Psychoeducation technique was effective in positively modifying urban and rural students’ examination misconduct tendencies. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made which include the use of psychoeducation has been shown to be effective in reducing examination misconduct tendencies, it should be encouraged. Practising school guidance and counsellors should learn to use the therapy to assist students to develop positive examinations conduct tendencies

    SELF-ESTEEM AS CORRELATE OF MARITAL ADJUSTMENT OF MARRIED SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

    Adjusting to the challenges in marriages is a critical factor in strengthening or weakening the foundation of their marriage. This study investigated self-esteem as a correlate of marital adjustment of married secondary school teachers in Anambra State. Three research questions were posed to guide the study while one null hypothesis was tested at a 0.05 level of significance. A correlational research design was adopted for the study. A sample size of 1,408 married teachers was drawn from a population of 6,987 married teachers. A multi-stage sampling procedure was followed in selecting the study sample. Two instruments: The marital Adjustment Scale (MAS), and Self- Esteem Scale (SES) were used for data collection. The instruments were duly validated by experts in measurement and evaluation and Guidance and Counselling. The reliability coefficient was established thus; 0.85 for the Self-esteem questionnaire, and 0.74 for the Marital Adjustment Questionnaire. Data was collected through a direct delivery approach and was analysed using SPSS version 23. Range of aggregate scores and Pearson correlation coefficients were used to answer research questions and while a t-test was used to test the hypotheses. Findings of the study showed among others there is a non-significant very low positive relationship existing between married teachers’ Self-esteem and their marital adjustment in secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended, among others that the school guidance counsellors should organise workshops and seminars for the married teachers that would be geared towards building healthy self-esteem for good marital adjustment.  Article visualizations

    EFFECT OF SELF-MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE ON LATE COMING AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOLS STUDENTS IN AWKA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, NIGERIA

    Quality in education can be seen as fitness for purpose and one indicator of this is the Lateness to school is a behavioural problem that constitutes a serious academic impediment to both the students and the teachers in schools. This study, therefore, investigated the effect of the Self-management technique on late coming among secondary schools students in Awka South Local Government Area. One research question and one null hypothesis guided the study. Quasi-experimental research was adopted in carrying out the study. A sample size of 109 adolescents was chosen from a population of 355 students with records of habitual lateness to school. The sample was derived from three schools selected using the purposive sampling technique based on the schools that recorded a higher number of students that are chronic late-comers. The instrument, Observation Guide was used for data collection. Data relating to research questions were arranged in tabular form and used in answering the research questions while data relating to hypotheses were analysed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings from the study revealed that the Self-management technique was effective in modifying lateness behaviour and reducing the magnitude of lateness among secondary school students. The findings further revealed that the effect of the self-management technique in modifying lateness behaviour and reducing the magnitude of lateness among secondary school students was significant. Based on the findings, recommendations were made that the self-management technique is an effective technique for modifying students’ lateness behaviour for practicing counsellors. Therefore, practicing counsellors should adopt the use of these techniques in counselling secondary school students to avert lateness behaviour

    School children's perceptions of climate change and possible remediation

    The focus of this paper is the perception of young school children on the strategies of reducing impacts and effects of climate change in schools and communities which was based on the lessons learnt from Environmental Education and counselling programmes carried out in some selected secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria within the period 2009-2012. Three research questions guided the study. The sample consisted of 600 students selected through simple random sampling. A 42-item questionnaire was used to collect data. Data was analyzed using frequency and percentages. Findings from the study revealed that all the strategies are capable of reducing impacts and effects of climate change. Based on the findings, it was recommended among other things that school children should participate in decision making in schools, homes and communities
