    Get PDF
Resilience is the ability to succeed despite barriers that make it difficult for the students to succeed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between resilience and academic achievement of secondary level students of Gujranwala, Pakistan. A Resilience scale was used to collect data. The sample consisted of 127 secondary students, including 52 boys and 75 girls. The data revealed that there was no association between resilience and achievement as measured through marks obtained in 10th grade. The boys are more resilient than girls at the secondary level in Pakistan. &nbsp

An Investigation Of Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety And Its Relationship With Students Achievement

    Get PDF
The present study examines anxiety in English undergraduate classes with regard to the type of situations that provoke anxiety during different stages of the learning process and the relationship of anxiety with learners’ achievement. Participants of the study include 149 undergraduates enrolled in second and sixth semester of different departments of University of Sargodha who are learning English as a foreign language. The questionnaire used in this study is the abbreviated form of Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). An inventory is also used to determine different situations that provoke anxiety. Finally, students’ GPA in English classes is taken to find its relationship with language anxiety. The results show that language anxiety and achievement are negatively related to each other. It is also found that female students are lessanxious in learning English as a foreign language than male students. ‘Speaking in front of others’ is rated as the biggest cause of anxiety followed by ‘worries about grammatical mistakes’, ‘pronunciation’ and ‘being unable to talk spontaneously’. It is suggested that the classroom environment should be encouraging and motivating. Moreover, teachers need to deal with anxiety-provoking situations carefully

    N-(4-Chloro-2-nitrophenyl)methanesulfonamide

    Get PDF
The title compound, C7H7ClN2O4S, is of interest as a precursor to biologically active substituted quinolines. Its structure resembles those of the previously reported N-phenylmethane sulfonamide and its 4-nitro, 4-fluoro and 4-bromo derivatives, with slightly different geometric parameters. An intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bond gives rise to a six-membered ring. Intermolecular C—H⋯O contacts stabilize the crystal packing

Oral lichen planus and hepatitis C virus infection; a symbiotic relationship or a mere co-incidence?

Background: Lichen planus (LP) is a common idiopathic chronic inflammatory immune mediated mucocutanous disease that effects stratified squamous epithelia and appendices. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is quite common across the world. A couple of reports have suggested positive association of HCV infection and oral lichen planus (OLP) and most of the studies are usually confined to Mediterranean and south European countries. Due to high incidence and suspected alliance between these two diseases in Pakistan, the following study was conducted with the view that it may help clinicians to set guidelines for HCV testing of lichen planus patients. Methods: Approximately 11500 patients from general population coming to dental diagnostics department of Fatima Memorial Hospital, Lahore (from March 2015-February 2016) were screened clinically for OLP and by ELISA for HCV infection. Out of these 11500 patients 103 were selected one of them incidental and the other pre-diagnosed or both incidental and both pre-diagnosed. These patients were unaware but had either one or both OLP and HCV infection which was confirmed clinically and by ELISA respectively. Results: Majority of patients presenting for other dental complaints were unaware of these diseases process going on in them and was mostly an incidental finding by the clinician. Either one or both OLP and HCV infection were more conjoint in females comprising 77.7% of the total subjects. OLP alone was most common finding comprising 66.67% of the cases. HCV infection alone was present in 15.53% whereas 16.50% subjects showed presence of both OLP and HCV infection. Conclusions: The current study could not detect statistically significant relationship between OLP and HCV infection in Pakistani population which could be due to genetic variation or may be geographic relationship

SonoGames: Sounds of the right kind introducing gamification into radiology training

    Get PDF
Background: Radiology as compared to other fields of medicine has lagged, in incorporating modern training modalities such as gamification and simulation into its teaching curriculum. Objective: This study aims to evaluate effectiveness of simulation-based teaching in collaboration with gamification. Bandura\u27s conception of self-efficacy was used to provide qualitative assessment of participants\u27 learning process through training event. Modified competitive game-based teaching methodology was utilized in an experimental study conducted for radiology residents. Workshop was divided into two sessions, first being three interactive didactic lectures followed by three competitive rounds. All participants were required to fill pre and post-self-efficacy questionnaire along with an activity evaluation form. Results: Significant self-efficacy scores were calculated for simulation-based stations of knowledge assessment and hands-on stations. Whereas significant association was also found between gender and knowledge assessment in communication skill (0.054), Professionalism (0.004), and general knowledge (0.018). Similarly, noteworthy correlation was found between gender and all hands-on skills. In conclusion, study reported an overall increase in knowledge of post-test scores compared to pre-test scores due to use of gamification in combination with simulation-based teaching which shows a positive role in clinical training. However, further consideration is needed to improve process of integrating simulation in clinical training of participants

Structure, Dielectric and Impedance Studies of Li Doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 Ceramics

Polycrystalline, lead free (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 and (K0.5Na0.5)0.49Li0.02NbO3 ceramics were synthesized using solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the formation of mono-phasic ceramics. During dielectric studies some anomalies were observed around temperatures 155 ºC and 439 ºC for (K0.5Na0.5)0.49Li0.02NbO3. Complex impedance spectroscopy (CIS) technique was used to investigate the bulk (grain interior) and grain boundary contributions to the impedance as a function of temperature and frequency. CIS studies revealed that the electrical relaxation process was temperature dependent and non-Debye type. AC conductivity studies revealed that conductivity was mainly due to the ionized oxygen vacancies in (K0.5Na0.5)0.49Li0.02NbO3 ceramics

Critical Discourse Analysis of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s (11th August, 1947) speech in the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan

The objective of the current investigation is to analyze Quaid-e-Azam’s speech in the First Constituent Assembly of Pakistan through Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). It attempts to ascertain the hidden ideological meanings of his words for the newly born state namely Pakistan. Qualitative methodology has been used for the current study. Although there are different models for CDA as those given by Van Dijk, Wodak and Fairclough yet for the present study the model of Fairclough has been used. The data was analyzed qualitatively by using content analysis approach. The results drawn from the current study reveal that Jinnah wanted to make Pakistan a liberal, democratic, just and impartial state. It also seems that he was fully aware of the social problems like law and order situation, corruption, bribery, black-marketing, nepotism and jobbery, so he persuaded the members of Constituent Assembly of Pakistan vividly to initiate a war against these evils. The study has its theoretical and practical implication
