The sharing of cross boundary water resources in south Asia: a Bangladesh India case study

    Get PDF
Over almost 25 years there existed an equitable water sharing problem between Bangladesh and India which has been partially resolved under the Ganga treaty signed in December 1996. The thesis analyzes this example of cross boundary water sharing using the existing literature and the data which is publicly available. The study covers the geo-physical background, the water disputes, the environmental impact on Bangladesh and the extent of known damage. In the process it also discusses the existing international legal regime and the efforts made by the United Nations on this subject. Finally, an attempt is made to highlight the present situation between Bangladesh and India and the possible future courses of action for sharing the other 53 international rivers. Short term and long term solutions to national and regional cross boundary water resource sharing and management are suggested

The present invention provides novel water soluble testosterone analogs. These testosterone analogs are suitable for intranasal administration to patients requiring increased plasma testosterone levels. The present invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions containing the testosterone analogs of the present invention. The present invention further provides a method of increasing plasma testosterone levels in patients in need of such treatment comprising the intranasal administration of the water-soluble testosterone analogs and pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention

Novel Method of Administering β-Blockers and Novel Dosage Forms Containing Same

    Get PDF
The invention provides a novel method of administering selected known adrenergic β-receptor blocking agents, such as dichloroisoproterenol, pronethalol, sotalol and alprenolol, which are of use in the treatment of angina pectoris, arrhythmias, hypertension and other cardiac conditions, and migraine. The invention further provides novel dosage forms of those β-blockers which are adapted for nasal administration and which include solutions, suspensions, gels and ointments

The invention provides a novel method of administering narcotic antagonists, narcotic analgesics and related compounds, and novel dosage forms containing those compounds which are adapted for nasal administration. The nasal dosage forms disclosed include solutions, suspensions, gels and ointments. Especially preferred compounds which can be advantageously administered in accordance with the invention include naloxone, naltrexone, nalbuphine, levorphanol, buprenorphine, butorphanol, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) and levonantradol

Boundary layer flow of a Walter’s B fluid due to a stretching cylinder with temperature dependent viscosity

    Get PDF
AbstractThe present investigation consists of an analytical treatment of a steady boundary layer flow of a Walter’s B fluid due to a stretching cylinder with temperature dependent variable viscosity. The heat transfer analysis is also considered. With the help of usual similarity transformations the governing equations have been transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations and are solved by a powerful technique homotopy analysis method. Two models of variable viscosity, namely, Reynolds and Vogel’s models are taken into account. The convergence is checked by plotting h-curves. The emerging parameters are discussed through graphs

Impact of Climate Change on Crops’ Productivity across Selected Agro-ecological Zones in Pakistan

    Get PDF
This study estimates the impact of major climate variables (temperature and rainfall) on crops’ productivity across four agro-ecological zones of Pakistan. The crops selected were rice, wheat, maize, cotton and sugarcane. The study used panel data from 1991 to 2010 and applied panel least square techniques. The results revealed that the effect of climatic variables on crops yield varied across agro climatic zone due to differences in their climate conditions. Temperature and rainfall were the important determinants affecting crops productivity across agro climatic zones of Pakistan. Wheat productivity has been impacted more in Northern Irrigated Plain-a by average temperature and in Northern Dry Mountains by rainfall than the other zones. Rice productivity has been impacted more in Dry Mountains by average temperature and in the Indus Delta by rainfall than other zones. Sugarcane productivity has been impacted more by average temperature and rainfall in Indus Delta than zone IV. Maize productivity has been impacted more by average temperature and rainfall in Northern Dry Mountains than other zones. Finally the study recommends proper mitigative and adaptative strategies to enhance the positive and lessen the adverse impact of climate change on crops productivity across agro climatic zones of Pakistan. Micro Hydro Power: A Source of Sustainable Energy in Rural Communities: Economic and Environmental Perspectives

    Get PDF
Energy is an important need of human life. It is the life blood of all economic activities. Due to increase in population and economic activities, the need for energy is increasing at a faster rate. Without having sufficient energy, the goal of economic and social development and the Millennium Development Goals in particular cannot be achieved. Most of the rural areas in different parts of the world are without electricity. About 1.6 billion people in the world who are living in rural areas are without electricity [Greenstone (2014)]. The reason is that it is too costly to provide electricity services to rural communities through conventional means due to remote location and low density of population. Moreover, due to poverty and low income the rural inhabitants are not in a position to afford the main grid electricity. The use of diesel and gasoline has been used for decades for provision of electricity to rural areas. But it was not so successful due to economic, technical and environmental problems [Woodruff (2007a)]

    Quebec platelet disorder

A case of Quebec platelet disorder is hereby reported. A 33 years old woman presented with history of epistaxis and gum bleeding since childhood and menorrhagia and bleeding per vaginum after puberty, also had history of excessive blood loss after birth of child. Her coagulation profile was normal but platelet function testing by platelet aggregation assay showed abnormal aggregation of platelet with epinephrine. This type of response is seen in Quebec platelet disorder which is a rare autosomal dominant disorder of platelet function characterized by increased bleeding after any injury or trauma
