The Incidence of Burns Among Sex-Trafficking Victims in India
Sex trafficking remains a flagrant violation of human rights, creating many public health concerns. During the initiation period, these victims experience acts of violence including gang rapes, subjecting them to traumatic injuries that include burns. Furthermore, lack of access to health care, particularly surgical, keeps them from receiving treatment for these functionally debilitating contractures caused by burns. This piece provides an overview of burns among sex-trafficked victims in India and the efforts by Cents of Relief to address the associated surgical burden of disease
Phosphoproteomic characterization of the signaling network resulting from activation of chemokine receptor CCR2
Leukocyte recruitment is a universal feature of tissue inflammation and regulated by the interactions of chemokines with their G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Activation of CC chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) by its cognate chemokine ligands, including CC chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), plays a central role in recruitment of monocytes in several inflammatory diseases. In this study, we used phosphoproteomics to conduct an unbiased characterization of the signaling network resulting from CCL2 activation of CCR2. Using data-independent acquisition (DIA) MS analysis, we quantified both the proteome and phosphoproteome in FlpIn-HEK293T cells stably expressing CCR2 at six time points after activation with CCL2. Differential expression analysis identified 699 significantly regulated phosphorylation sites on 441 proteins. As expected, many of these proteins are known to participate in canonical signal transduction pathways and in the regulation of actin cytoskeleton dynamics, including numerous guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) and GTPase activating proteins (GAPs). Moreover, we identified regulated phosphorylation sites in numerous proteins that function in the nucleus, including several constituents of the nuclear pore complex. The results of this study provide an unprecedented level of detail of CCR2 signaling and identify potential targets for regulation of CCR2 function
A survey on Data Extraction and Data Duplication Detection
Text mining, also known as Intelligent Text Analysis is an important research area. It is very difficult to focus on the most appropriate information due to the high dimensionality of data. Feature Extraction is one of the important techniques in data reduction to discover the most important features. Processing massive amount of data stored in a unstructured form is a challenging task. Several pre-processing methods and algorithms are needed to extract useful features from huge amount of data. Dealing with collection of text documents, it is also very important to filter out duplicate data. Once duplicates are deleted, it is recommended to replace the removed duplicates. This Paper review the literature on duplicate detection and data fusion (remov e and replace duplicates). The survey provides existing text mining techniques to extract relevant features, detect duplicates and to replace the duplicate data to get fine grained knowledge to the user
Double Investment Technique of Hollow Bulb Denture Obturator Fabrication in a Completely Edentulous Patient
Introduction: Prosthodontic management of palatal defects has been employed for many years. Palatal defects of any extent cause multiple problems in speech, mastication and aesthetics. Obturator prosthesis for an edentulous patient is more critical in terms of its movements as there is no mechanical retention available. Obturators and facial prostheses are important not only for rehabilitation and aesthetics, but also in patient resocialisation. Maxillary defects are created by surgical treatments of benign or malignant neoplasms and by trauma, in which case, denture is supported only by the underlying residual ridge and the defect. This clinical report describes the rehabilitation of a maxillary resected patient with a single piece hollow bulb denture obturator fabricated by double investment technique. Materials & Methods: In this double investment technique of hollow bulb denture obturator fabrication two same size transposable flasks were used for flasking and curing of the prosthesis. Results: Hollow bulb denture obturator was obtained by this double investment technique. Conclusion: Decreased weight of prosthesis positively affects retention leading to improved physiologic function, and it also does not cause excessive atrophy in muscle balance
Ultrasound Based Method and Apparatus for Stone Detection and to Facilitate Clearance Thereof
Described herein are methods and apparatus for detecting stones by ultrasound, in which the ultrasound reflections from a stone are preferentially selected and accentuated relative to the ultrasound reflections from blood or tissue. Also described herein are methods and apparatus for applying pushing ultrasound to in vivo stones or other objects, to facilitate the removal of such in vivo objects

A Phase II Basket Trial of Dual Anti-CTLA-4 and Anti-PD-1 Blockade in Rare Tumors (DART SWOG 1609) in Patients with Nonpancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors.
PurposeImmune checkpoint blockade has improved outcomes across tumor types; little is known about the efficacy of these agents in rare tumors. We report the results of the (nonpancreatic) neuroendocrine neoplasm cohort of SWOG S1609 dual anti-CTLA-4 and anti-PD-1 blockade in rare tumors (DART).Patients and methodsWe performed a prospective, open-label, multicenter phase II clinical trial of ipilimumab plus nivolumab across multiple rare tumor cohorts, with the (nonpancreatic) neuroendocrine cohort reported here. Response assessment by grade was not prespecified. The primary endpoint was overall response rate [ORR; RECIST v1.1; complete response (CR) and partial response (PR)]; secondary endpoints included progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), stable disease >6 months, and toxicity.ResultsThirty-two eligible patients received therapy; 18 (56%) had high-grade disease. Most common primary sites were gastrointestinal (47%; N = 15) and lung (19%; N = 6). The overall ORR was 25% [95% confidence interval (CI) 13-64%; CR, 3%, N = 1; PR, 22%, N = 7]. Patients with high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma had an ORR of 44% (8/18 patients) versus 0% in low/intermediate grade tumors (0/14 patients; P = 0.004). The 6-month PFS was 31% (95% CI, 19%-52%); median OS was 11 months (95% CI, 6-∞). The most common toxicities were hypothyroidism (31%), fatigue (28%), and nausea (28%), with alanine aminotransferase elevation (9%) as the most common grade 3/4 immune-related adverse event, and no grade 5 events.ConclusionsIpilimumab plus nivolumab demonstrated a 44% ORR in patients with nonpancreatic high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma, with 0% ORR in low/intermediate grade disease
Electron-phonon interaction contribution to the total energy of group IV semiconductor polymorphs: evaluation and implications
In density functional theory (DFT) based total energy studies, the van der
Waals (vdW) and zero-point vibrational energy (ZPVE) correction terms are
included to obtain energy differences between polymorphs. We introduce a new
correction term, due to electron-phonon interactions (EPI). We rely on Allen's
general formalism, which goes beyond the Quasi-Harmonic Approximation (QHA), to
include the free energy contributions due to quasiparticle interactions. We
show that, for semiconductors and insulators, the EPI contributions to the free
energies of electrons and phonons are constant terms. Using Allen's formalism
in combination with the Allen-Heine theory for EPI corrections, we calculate
the zero-point EPI corrections to the total energy for cubic and hexagonal
polytypes of Carbon, Silicon and Silicon Carbide. The EPI corrections alter the
energy differences between polytypes. In SiC polytypes, the EPI correction term
is more sensitive to crystal structure than the vdW and ZPVE terms and is thus
essential in determining their energy differences. It clearly establishes that
the cubic SiC-3C is metastable and hexagonal SiC-4H is the stable polytype. Our
results are consistent with the experimental results of Kleykamp. Our study
enables the inclusion of EPI corrections as a separate term in the free energy
expression. This opens the way to beyond the QHA by including the contribution
of EPI on all thermodynamic properties.Comment: Submitted for publication. 32 pages and 2 figure
