Airborne dermatitis belongs to a heterogeneous group of dermatoses of various etiopathology and clinical characteristics. This disease is characterized by acute or chronic inflammation of the uncovered skin exposed to irritants or allergens. Initially skin lesions are transient. The paper presents a description of chrysanthemum growers diagnosed with air-borne dermatitis from chrysanthemum. Etiology, pathomechanism, clinical course, diagnostics and therapeutical methods are described

The theoretical basis for application of NB-UVB radiation in dermatology

    Get PDF
In recent years great interest in phototherapy as an effective method for treatment of skin diseases has been observed. The biological effect of UV depends on the dose and the wavelength as well as patients’ sensitivity to UV. Recently particular interest is more focused on narrow-band UVB (311-313 nm), which is considered safe and effective treatment for a variety of skin diseases. In the article the immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive mechanism of UVB 311 nm is described. The benefits and complications typical for this method are presented

    Systemic action of nickel

Nickel is the most common substance in our environment. It is known as commonest couse of allergic contact dermatitis. Similar to chromium, cobalt and zinc, nickel may also be a cause of allergy in the upper and lower airways. It may lead to diseases described as "hard metal asthma" and "hard metal rhinitis". The study aimed to determine the prevelance of systemic nickel induced reaction in patients sensitized to nickel and suffering from atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis and urticaria. In all patients during remission of symptoms were performed patch tests with European Standard contact allergens, serial dilution patch tests and oral provocation test with increasing doses of nickel sulphate. Our studies indicate that oral nickel challenge can provoke symptoms of skin allergy type I and type IV

Regulation of β1 integrin expression in endothelial cells by chimeric tRNAVal ribozyme

    No full text
To downregulate expression of the β1 integrin subunit in endothelial cells, plasmid encoding the ribozyme cassette containing hammerhead ribozyme flanked at the 5' terminus by tRNAVal and at the 3' terminus by constitutive transport element sequences was constructed. When used to transfect immortalized human endothelial cell line EA.hy 926, it selectively blocked the synthesis of the β1 integrin subunit and thus inhibited migration and proliferation of the cells. Thus, this construct may be a valuable tool to control the proangiogenic phenotype of stimulated endothelial cells
