    Analysis of nutrition data by means of a matrix factorization method

    We present a factorization framework to analyze the data of a regression learning task with two peculiarities. First, inputs can be split into two parts that represent semantically significant entities. Second, the performance of regressors is very low. The basic idea of the approach presented here is to try to learn the ordering relations of the target variable instead of its exact value. Each part of the input is mapped into a common Euclidean space in such a way that the distance in the common space is the representation of the interaction of both parts of the input. The factorization approach obtains reliable models from which it is possible to compute a ranking of the features according to their responsibility in the variation of the target variable. Additionally, the Euclidean representation of data provides a visualization where metric properties have a clear semantics. We illustrate the approach with a case study: the analysis of a dataset about the variations of Body Mass Index for Age of children after a Food Aid Program deployed in poor rural communities in Southern México.     The Role of Faults as Barriers in Confined Seismic Sequences: 2021 Seismicity in the Granada Basin (Betic Cordillera)

    Fault barriers are key structures for studying seismic hazard in regions of intense brittle deformation. The interaction between fault sets affects their seismogenic behavior, if some of them act as barriers. The Granada Basin, in the Betic Cordillera, is a region affected by shallow brittle deformation, as it was the scenario for the recent Granada 2021 seismic sequence. This seismicity presented a swarm behavior at the beginning of the sequence, followed by mainshock-aftershock features. Geological and gravity data presented here reveal that the basement is affected by two sets of NW-SE and NE-SW normal faults and intensely deformed by vertical NW-SE joints. Improved relocation of the Granada 2021 seismicity reveals a confined chimney-shape seismicity caused by the activity of a 2 km long NW-SE normal fault segment. The confinement of the sequence is associated with the NE-SW fault set acting as a barrier that restricts the rupture area, limiting the maximum magnitude, and favoring the recurrence of events with smaller magnitude. The chimney-shape of the seismic sequence suggests that the deformation is propagated vertically to the surface, facilitated by preexisting fractures. The shallow extensional deformation during the uplift of the central Betic Cordillera drove the activity of the local structures obliquely to the regional extensional trends, as evidenced by the seismic sequence.     Transformación ocupacional en hombres y reconocimiento de la memoria indígena muisca “Cabildo de Bosa"

    A través de la historia, las comunidades indígenas han tenido un papel significativo en el proceso de transformación del mundo y por ende de transformación de sí mismas, abandonando sentidos propios de tipo social, espiritual, político y cultural y asumiendo roles generalmente impuestos por la occidentalización y el ritmo acelerado de procesos de globalización que absorben, mitigan y sobre todo condicionan dichos procesos sociales, espirituales, políticos y culturales. Aun con ello los pueblos indígenas y específicamente la comunidad Muisca de Bosa ha prevalecido y ha conseguido mimetizarse dentro de estos procesos, modificando sus costumbres e incluso en su mayoría poblacional perdiendo sus raíces y cosmovisión. La transformación ocupacional de los hombres Muiscas inherente a las trasformaciones históricas desde la colonización hasta la actualidad, Aparecen como un foco de estudio extenso y como un terreno virgen que debe ser abordado por la Terapia Ocupacional en pro de ahondar y explorar terrenos sociales que conduzcan a la comprensión de procesos sociales, sentidos significados, realizaciones individuales y colectivas como producto cambiante por procesos coyunturales del tiempo que reflejan los procesos subjetivantes partiendo del análisis de cómo el compromiso de las personas con cierto tipo de ocupaciones contribuye a la configuración de modos de ser y actuar que entrañan significados personales, valores subjetivos, intereses propios y propósitos existenciales particulares o comunes.Abstract. Throughout history, indigenous communities have had a significant role in the process of transformation of the world and thus transforming themselves, their own senses abandoning social, spiritual, political and cultural roles and assuming generally imposed by westernization and the rapid pace of globalization processes that absorb, mitigate and especially these processes determine social, spiritual, political and cultural. Even with this specifically indigenous and Bosa Muisca community has prevailed and managed to blend in these processes, changing their habits and even losing population mostly roots and worldview. The occupational transformation of men Muiscas inherent historical transformations from colonization to the present, appear as a focus of extensive study and as a Greenfield site that must be addressed by the Occupational Therapy social deepen and explore terrains leading to understanding of social processes, meanings meanings, individual and collective achievements as a product by changing weather cyclical processes that reflect subjectifying processes based on the analysis of how the commitment of people with certain types of occupations contribute to the shaping of ways of being and act involving personal meanings, subjective values, interests and own particular existential or common purposes.Pregrad

    Learning to assess from pair-wise comparisons

    In this paper we present an algorithm for learning a function able to assess objects. We assume that our teachers can provide a collection of pairwise comparisons but encounter certain difficulties in assigning a number to the qualities of the objects considered. This is a typical situation when dealing with food products, where it is very interesting to have repeatable, reliable mechanisms that are as objective as possible to evaluate quality in order to provide markets with products of a uniform quality. The same problem arises when we are trying to learn user preferences in an information retrieval system or in configuring a complex device.     Bioactive Heterometallic CuII–ZnII Complexes with Potential Biomedical Applications

    [EN]A series of multinuclear heterometallic Cu-Zn complexes of molecular formula [(CuL)2Zn(dca)2] (1), [(CuL)2Zn(NO3)2] (2), [(CuL)2Zn2(Cl)4] (3), and [(CuL)2Zn2(NO2)4] (4) have been synthesized by reacting [CuL] as a "metalloligand (ML)" (where HL = N,N′-bis(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine) and by varying the anions or coligands using the same molar ratios of the reactants. All of the four products including the ML have been characterized by infrared and UV-vis spectroscopies and elemental and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. By varying the anions, different structures and topologies are obtained which we have tried to rationalize by means of thorough density functional theory calculations. All of the complexes (1-4) have now been applied for several biological investigations to verify their therapeutic worth. First, their cytotoxicity properties were assessed against HeLa human cervical carcinoma along with the determination of IC50 values. The study was extended with extensive DNA and protein binding experiments followed by detailed fluorescence quenching study with suitable reagents to comprehend the mechanistic pathway. From all of these biological studies, it has been found that all of these heterometallic complexes show more than a few fold improvement of their therapeutic values as compared to the similar homometallic ones probably because of the simultaneous synergic effect of copper and zinc. Among all of the four heterometallic complexes, complex 3 exhibits highest binding constants and IC50 values suggest for their better interaction toward the biological targets and hence have better clinical importance
