Estimating Recreational Value of the Foy's Lake: An Application of Travel Cost Count Data Model for Truncated Zeros
Abstract. To estimate the annual recreational value provided by the Foy’s Lake, using the most applicable model for on-site data, is the main objective of this study. To adhere to the objective of this study, individual travel cost method (ITCM) has been applied and zero truncated poisson regression model has been found plausible among other models to estimate the consumer surplus. Based on the estimate, the consumer surplus or recreational benefits per trip per visitor can be recommended as BDT 5,875 or US 40.2 million. Keywords: Individual Travel Cost Method, Zero Truncated Poisson Regression Model, Endogenous Stratification, Consumer Surplus.JEL. Current algebra and superconvergence
We study the implication of the algebra of currents and the concepts of unitarity, analyticity and high energy behaviour of scattering amplitudes to investigate sum rules for some scattering processes. In Chapter I we introduce the concept of current algebras and show how to derive sum rules starting from equal time commutators. In Chapter II we apply the formulation developed in Chapter I, to the equal time commutator of axial vector charge and the isovector electromagnetic current, and obtain a relation between the πN*N* p-wave coupling constant to s-wave πNN coupling constant. In Chapter III we show how to derive sum rule for strongly interacting particles starting from commutator of weak currents. This leads us to examine whether we could derive the same sum rules without the help of current commutator , and using only the concepts of pure strong interaction, namely unitarity, analyticity, high energy behaviour. We find that this can be done. We then apply the formalism to derive sum rules for πD (N*1525) scattering, obtaining a value for the πDD coupling constant. In Chapter IV, we develop and apply the helicity formalism to obtain superconvergence relation for πN → πN* and πN* →πN*. We obtain a relation between πNN coupling constant g(_1) and p-wave coupling constant g(_3). We also find the value of g(_3) in terms of g(_2), the πNN* coupling constant
A miniature membrane reactor for evaluation of process design options on the enzymatic degradation of pectin
The objective of this paper is to assess if a membrane microbioreactor system could potentially be used to diagnose consequences of different process design and reactor operation options relevant for larger-scale enzymatic degradation of pectin reactions. The membrane microbioreactor prototype was fabricated from poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) with a working volume of ~190 µL. The prototype also contained the necessary sensors and actuators, i.e., pressure transducer, mixing via magnetic stirrer bar and a temperature controller. The functionality of the prototype was demonstrated by performing a continuous enzymatic degradation of pectin experiment for a range of reactor conditions: different membrane molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) values, enzyme-to-substrate ratios (E/S), and substrate feeding rates (F) were assessed. Based on the experimental data, it was found that the apparent reaction rate increased from 0.11 µmol/h to 0.13 µmol/h when the E/S ratio was doubled from 0.2% (g/g) to 0.4% (g/g). In contrast, when the substrate feeding rate was reduced from 200 µL/h to 100 µL/h (i.e., longer residence time), a higher yield was achieved (producing a pectin fragment concentration of 0.82 mM in the permeate) and the apparent reaction rate increased by ~50% (i.e., from 0.11 µmol/h to 0.17 µmol/h). Clearly, this signifies that the substrate feeding rate is a critical variable that influences the conversion rate and the process yield. The data also showed that the process design affected the membrane rejection profile. The results obtained thus underlined the suitability of a miniature membrane reactor system for evaluating different process design options that are relevant for larger-scale reactions of enzymatic pectin degradation

How to be an Asian Tiger
In 1995 the Republic of Korea (ROK) was officially admitted to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This organisation groups together industrially developed countries of the world. Recently, the World Bank has also released a study of China that predicts that China is going to become the second biggest economy in the next fifteen years if its economic growth follows the pattern of the last fifteen years. ROK is the only country from among the developing countries to join the ranks of the developed industrialised countries in the last thirty years. However, it is still a small country compared to China. Hence when China completes its transformation into an industrialised country the whole world will be affected. How did South Korea achieve such an accelerated transition to prosperity? What measures were adopted by the Chinese leadership that has allowed China to grow so rapidly? There are many factors that have been cited to explain Korea's miracle, and rapid Chinese growth. However, In the following we will highlight the role that education, science and research and development (R&D) have played in their success
Representasi Kebaya Jawa Pada Perempuan Dalam Serial “Gadis Kretek”
Research purposes Indonesia, as an archipelagic country with vast cultural diversity, possesses various cultural heritages influenced by many civilizations. Traditional clothing, such as the kebaya, serves as an important symbol of local identity and culture. The film "Gadis Kretek," adapted from a novel by Ratih Kumala, depicts the social realities and struggles of women in the Javanese kretek industry, highlighting traditional kebaya attire as a central element. This research aims to examine the representation of the Javanese kebaya on women in the series "Gadis Kretek" through John Fiske's semiotic analysis. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through observation, documentation, and internet searching. The focus of this research is on the first episode of the series. Analysis is conducted on three levels: reality, representation, and ideology. At the reality level, the film portrays life from the colonial era to the independence period with the use of traditional costumes, realistic dialogues, and character behaviors. At the representation level, cinematic techniques such as narration, cinematography, and editing are utilized to construct this reality. At the ideological level, the film conveys values regarding the role of women in the industry, social critique of workers' conditions, and the importance of culture and tradition. The research findings indicate that the film "Gadis Kretek" not only presents an engaging story but also depicts historical realities, reinforces the narrative through cinematic elements, and delivers ideological messages about women's struggles and the significance of cultural heritage. This study is expected to provide insights into cultural representation in mass media and strengthen national cultural identity through the Javanese kebaya
