Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors (DMS) are being actively studied as a major step towards the realization of spintronic devices. However, to obtain the DMS with ferromagnetic behaviour at room temperature is the main obstacle in the fabrication of spintronic devices. This obstacle has prompted significant research efforts aimed at exploring new DMS. In this research, Gadolinium (Gd) was doped with Zinc Oxide (ZnO) to explore the feasibility of making new DMS. The Gd-doped ZnO (Zn1-xGdxO) was synthesized using the sol-gel spin coating technique. Parameters, such as the type of solvent, annealing environment and Gd contents, were varied in order to optimize the structural and magnetic properties. The optimum properties were obtained from a prepared solution using ethanol solvents, annealed in an Ar-environment with 8 % Gd contents. The structural, surface topology, optical, electrical and magnetic properties of the film were studied in detail. Structural studies revealed that the film had a hexagonal wurtzite structure. Surface topologies showed that the film had a smooth and uniform surface. In addition, the film was also highly transparent within visible range with optical transmittance of approximately ~ 90 %. The electrical analysis revealed that the resistivity and carrier concentration was about 3.17 x 10-3 cm and 8.27 x 1014 cm-3, respectively. The magnetic studies showed that the film was ferromagnetic at room temperature with a magnetization of 0.0423 emu/g. The effect of ferromagnetic Gd-doped ZnO film on device performance was demonstrated by fabricating the Spin-Polarized Organic Solar Cell (Spin-OSC). It was found that the ferromagnetic Zn0.92Gd0.08O film contributed immensely to the performance of OSC. The result showed that the efficiency of Spin-OSC (0.16 %) was higher than conventional-OSC (0.04 %). Thus, this proved the possibility of spintronics in optoelectronic applications, especially in solar cells

    Get PDF
Switching losses is one of the phenomena that occur in power electronic fields, which cause the imperfection of the output waveform. There are lots of ways defined it encounter this problem such as snubber usage, tapped-inductor, MOSFETS and etc. In this century, semiconductor field came out with the revolution of the MOSFET, which is called Coo!MOS in order to reduce the switching losses and give high efficiency. The CoolMOS become famous as it can reduce 80% reduction of switching losses and low cost. Coo!MOS technology - developed for the production of charge-compensated devices - is presented. Due to its novel internal structure, the device offers a dramatic reduction in on-state resistance with a completely altered voltage dependence of the device capacitance. If the power factor is small which is below than 0.85, it causes large amount of power loss (Losses = I2R) and power that should apply not achieved as target. In worst cases it causes equipment damaged and power supply trip. This will affect whole process especially for manufacturing company. Basically, this project needs to evaluate the performance of CoolMOS in improving the switching losses especially in Buck Converter. The main focus is on the parameters that contributing in developing high power factor. Its mean that selection of components used is very important such as inductor value. As conclusion, Buck converter is one of the best methods to investigate power factor correction. Moreover, Coo!MOS device is a good device which should be varies its application in the future

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
The construction sector has been heavily impacted, globally, and locally, by the COVID-19 crisis since the beginning of the Movement Control Order in Malaysia in mid-March of 2020. This situation has severely impacted construction practitioners, building surveyors and the construction industry overall. Adaptations are necessary to continue updating professional needs and skillsets while minimising the negative effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the supply of, and demand for, building surveying services. To ensure the continuous improvement of surveying practice, this study asks, “What new competencies skillset is required by building surveyors in Malaysia to deal with the post-pandemic crisis?” Therefore, this study attempts to redefine a new set of competencies that Malaysian building surveyors will need to succeed in the post-COVID-19 era. The research data for this study was collected using a qualitative method approach that involved analysing and reviewing documents such as the guidelines, standards and policies from the national and international professional bodies that govern this profession. Based on the document review and analysis approach, the study highlights how fourteen competencies are emphasised by the five professional bodies governing the building surveying profession. The study provides significant benefits to building surveyors, who can improve their employability, as well as to fresh graduates and undergraduates preparing for the working environment. It also offers valuable insights for policy makers and surveying institutions on how to structure their adaptation and plans to overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic that will confront building surveying practitioners
