Forecast of factors affecting the fair value accounting in Vietnamese listed companies
This study aims to assess the adoption of fair value accounting in Vietnam, and to forecast factors affecting the fair value (FV) application in Vietnamese listed companies. So, we used multivariate regression analysis to assess the impact of each factor on the application of fair value accounting in Vietnam, by implementing a survey of 203 accountants and directors of Vietnamese listed companies in the period from 2017 to 2019. The research results show that: for both small and medium sized enterprises and large enterprises, human resource factors have the strongest positive impact on FV application, followed by benefit factor. The factors of difficulties negatively affect this application. And, the active market factors have contradictory impacts between these two groups of enterprises. Our findings provide the significant perspectives of applying FV in Vietnamese companies, as well as different recommendations to Vietnamese policy makers in developing the legal accounting framework
Intellectual Capital Accounting – Value and Benefits for the Sustainable Development of Enterprises
The research indicates that the existence of intellectual capital accounting which has been recognized as the cost in production and business costs by current accounting practices were falsify the value and their using value and partly conceal exploiting potential of these. Intellectual capital has an important role in determining the business strategy, developing of tools to measure the results of business and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises. Therefore, intellectual capital should be recognized as an asset (intangible) on financial reports to help the users of information to have more financial information in terms of the potential ability of the business. In Vietnam, however, intellectual capital accounting has not really become popular and are considered as a new area by both researchers and practical persons. To achieve its objectives, this study uses Likert scale with values from 1 to 5 based on 5 criteria (accounting policies, environmental accounting, the method of valuation, the system determines the value of intellectual capital in enterprise and economic benefits) to assess the situation of intellectual capital accounting in Vietnamese enterprises. The research results will be the basis for the orientation in completing the provisions on the recognition, measurement and intellectual capital reporting on financial reports so as to sustainable develop in the context of integration. Generation Z willingness to pay for sustainable apparel: the influence of labelling for origin and eco-friendly material
The purpose of this study is to identify the willingness to pay (WTP) and trade-off
that Vietnamese generation Z consumers could make when purchasing eco-friendly
apparel. This research uses the Discrete Choice Experiment methodology to
measure consumers' WTP and how consumers trade off among different attributes,
including eco-friendly, origin, manufacturing technology, and materials. The
results show that generation Z consumers are willing to pay for organic label
products at a higher price of 21.22% and eco-friendly label items at a higher price
of 37.72%. Consumers who have a higher level of corporate social responsibility
(CSR) awareness and higher income are willing to pay more for organic and eco-
friendly label apparel. They were least willing to purchase apparel that is made in
China, while they see no difference between T-shirts made in Vietnam and in other
countries except China. Consumers in the current study were more willing to
purchase eco-friendly as compared to organic apparel. The findings suggest that
enterprises should consider the language used when communicating with
consumers. Also, consumers prefer products made in Vietnam, suggesting the
promotion of domestic manufacturing through in-depth branding, product
positioning, and promotions. The results also confirm that the application of CSR
in enterprises is the right and necessary step to be taken for businesses to develop
in a sustainable integration world
FACTORS INFLUENCING THE INTENTION TO USE MOBILE MONEY: A STUDY IN BUSINESSES IN HANOI, VIETNAM
Abstract
The government's and people's expectations for the successful implementation of this activity are significant, but the scientific basis for its implementation remains limited. This study, the first of its kind in Vietnam since the aforementioned decision, aims to clarify the factors influencing consumer usage of Mobile Money, focusing on businesses in Hanoi, Vietnam. Mobile Money, a form of mobile wallet not linked to bank accounts, represents a new transaction method in Vietnam, catering to consumers' reduced use of cash. This research examines the factors affecting the intention to use Mobile Money among employees of businesses in Hanoi. To achieve this goal, the author relies on the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and risk perception variables to design the research model. With a sample of 479 employees who intend to use Mobile Money, hypotheses are tested using a multivariate regression model through quantitative analysis with IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0. The research results identify five factors that positively influence the intention to use Mobile Money: Perceived Ease of Use, Trust, Security and Privacy, Social Influence, and COVID-19 Risk Perception. The factor of Perceived Usefulness does not have a significant impact in this case. Particularly, heightened risk perception regarding COVID-19 or social instability leads to an increased intention to use Mobile Money. This study provides guidance to Mobile Money service providers on how to enhance users' intention to use their services. Additionally, it underscores how factors related to diseases or societal instability can alter or even disrupt initial intention or behavior models
Factors Affecting Business Angels Investment in Vietnam
The paper aims at investigating and comparing the factors determining investment decisions by business angels (BAs) from the viewpoints of BAs and startups in Vietnam based on a framework synthesized from a literature review and primary data from in-depth interviews conducted with 8 startups and 15 angel investors. The results show that the startups’ founder, working team, financial issues, product and market, and strategy related to exit and the roles of BAs are startup-related factors determining BAs’ investment in Vietnam. For BA-related factors, the BAs’ experience, investment objectives and preferences, and culture are key determinants. The novelty of the paper is to find out the gaps between the perspectives of BAs and startups, and the difference between Vietnamese and foreign BAs’ viewpoints. The finding is that BAs, more strictly than startups, assess their business plan, financial state, product, market, and targeted consumers. Startups neglect the exit strategy and role of BAs in invested startups. In addition, foreign and domestic BAs have different opinions on startups’ market scale, and expectation of profits and BAs’ roles in startups. The paper ends by providing some implications for Vietnamese startups to attract more angel investment, focusing on improving the quality of human resources, developing a profitable, honest, and realistic business plan, and setting up a long-run vision towards the global market. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-02-07 Full Text: PD
Lax Compliance of Goodwill Impairment Accounting in the Early Year after IFRS Implementation
After some decades of discussing in recognizing, measuring and reporting goodwill in the financial reports, Hong Kong finally has promulgated HKAS 36 - Impairment of Assets, for the convergence of IFRS including IAS 36. This is absolutely applicable to all transactions of business combinations beginning on or after 1st January, 2005. The adoption of HKAS 36 has resulted in significant changes and more complexity in terms of techniques and in the nature of disclosures relating to goodwill and its impairment to the reporting first-time adopters. The traditional method by adopting “capitalize and amortize” has been replaced by impairment testing regime based on subjective assumptions. Therefore, it is more likely to have inconsistent compliance by the first-time adopters in their transition period under the new reporting approach. Thus, this study has the purpose of examining the compliance levels under a variety of provisions of HKAS 36. By using the data of annual reports of Hong Kong listed firms, first-time adopters, the research found the material levels of non-compliance and substantial changes in the quality of note-form disclosures bearing on impairment testing process. Further study on post transition period is identified and discussed. Keywords: Goodwill, Impairment, Financial Reporting Standard, Hong Kon

Calculation of Temperature-Dependent Thermal Expansion Coefficient of Metal Crystals Based on Anharmonic Correlated Debye Model
This study aims to calculate the anharmonic thermal expansion (TE) coefficient of metal crystals in the temperature dependence. The calculation model is derived from the anharmonic correlated Debye (ACD) model that is developed using the many-body perturbation approach and correlated Debye model based on the anharmonic effective potential. This potential has taken into account the influence on the absorbing and backscattering atoms of all their nearest neighbors in the crystal lattice. The numerical results for the crystalline zinc (Zn) and crystalline copper (Cu) are in agreement with those obtained by the other theoretical model and experiments at several temperatures. The analytical results show that the ACD model is useful and efficient in analyzing the TE of coefficient of metal crystals
