LA IMPORTANCIA DE LOS INDICADORES SINTÉTICOS EN EL DESARROLLO SUSTENTABLE

El uso de indicadores sintéticos y/o alternativos de índole espacial, como complementos de los indicadores tradicionales, se adapta, con más precisión y pertinencia, a las especificaciones de cada investigación y su objeto de estudio. La construcción de tales indicadores se encuentra sujeta a las mismas características científicas de precisión y rigor en su elaboración, y agregan además, rasgos georreferenciados del territorio de análisis (lugar, región o entidad a analizar), adaptando la investigación, con ayuda de la metodología, a la región específica. Una investigación cuyo principal objetivo es la medición del Desarrollo Sustentable, se puede ver beneficiada en mayores proporciones con la ayuda de indicadores sintéticos propios, ya que la especificidad de los mismos le permitiría tanto medir como clasificar las potencialidades y a su vez, precisar las vulnerabilidades sustentables en una región, construida y delimitada según las necesidades del estudio. Se recomienda el uso de herramientas que permitan agregarle valor a la información de tipo Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG), que permite transcribir información y resultados en variables espaciales vía la elaboración de mapas temáticos. Resulta una investigación con mejores oportunidades de tratamiento, eficiencia de resultados que pueda influir sobre decisiones políticas en una perspectiva de beneficio para la sociedad. Los objetivos del presente ensayo, son principalmente explicar la funcionalidad de los indicadores sintéticos, así como el analizar su potencial relación con la medición del Desarrollo Sustentable y la importancia de la misma, además de exponer las herramientas de principal utilidad a la hora de realizar una investigación con tales características, para volverla de mayor provecho y conveniencia. Al final, se proporciona ejemplos que reúnan la mayoría de los aspectos relevantes en una medición de un diagnóstico de carácter regional

Mathematical Modelling of Batch Distillation Columns: A Comparative Analysis of Non-Linear and Fuzzy Models

Distillation is the process most commonly used in industry to separate chemical mixtures; its applications range from cosmetic and pharmaceutical to petrochemical industries. The equipment required to perform the distillation process is known as distillation column. Since initial investment and maintenance costs for distillation columns are very high it is necessary to have an appropriate mathematical model that allows improving the comprehension of the column dynamics, especially its thermal behaviour, in order to enhance the control and safety of the process. This chapter presents a general panorama of the mathematical modelling of distillation columns, having as a specific case of study the comparison of a space-state non-linear model and a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model for a batch distillation column using a binary mixture (Ethanol-Water)

Fuzzy Logic Modeling and Observers Applied to Estimate Compositions in Batch Distillation Columns

In this chapter, the analysis and design of a fuzzy observer based on a Takagi-Sugeno model of a batch distillation column are presented. The observer estimates the molar compositions and temperatures of the light component in the distillation column considering a binary mixture. This estimation aims to allow monitoring the physical variables in the process to improve the quality of the distillated product as well as to detect failures that could affect the system performance. The Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is based on eight linear subsystems determined by three premise variables: the opening percentage of the reflux valve and the liquid molar composition of the light element of the binary mixture in the boiler and in the condenser. The stability analysis and the observer gains are obtained by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The observer is validated by MATLAB® simulations using real data obtained from a distillation column to verify the observer’s convergence and analyze its response under system disturbances

This article examines the factors associated with the human capital and the social capital that favor or limit the incorporation of immigrants into the spanish labor market, exploring the demographic characteristics, family networks and the labor trajectories of three latin american, two african and one asian groups. the article is based on information gathered in a survey conducted by the instituto universitario de estudios sobre migraciones in 1998. the sample using quotas considered the concentration patterns of immigrants in spain. the incorporation of immigrants in few economic sectors suggests the existence of labor replacement in jobs that natives have left or the construction of labor niches. one option does not exclude the other
