    Problems for p-Monge-Ampère equations

    We consider the homogeneous Dirichlet problem for a class of equations which generalize the p-Laplace equations as well as the Monge- Amp`ere equations in a strictly convex domain Ω ⊂ Rn, n ≥ 2. In the sub-linear case, we study the comparison between quantities involving the solution to this boundary value problem and the corresponding quantities involving the (radial) solution of a problem in a ball having the same η1- mean radius as Ω. Next, we consider the eigenvalue problem for such a p-Monge-Amp`ere equation and study a comparison between its principal eigenvalue (eigenfunction) and the principal eigenvalue (eigenfunction) of the corresponding problem in a ball having the same η1-mean radius as Ω. Symmetrization techniques and comparison principles are the main tools used to get our results

    Apparent digestibility of insect protein meals for rainbow trout

    Insect meals are considered to be promising future ingredients for aquaculture feeds. In past feeding trials in rainbow trout, insect meals were included in diets only on the basis of their nutrients content and energy density without taking into account their biological availability due to the lack of their digestible values. Apparent digestibility (ADC) provides good indication of the bioavailability of nutrients and energy thus providing rational basis for the correct inclusion of feedstuffs. The aim of this research was to assess, in an in vivo trial on rainbow trout, the ADC of five full fat insect meals: one Tenebrio molitor (TM), two Hermetia illucens obtained through two different process (HI1 and HI2), one Musca domestica (MD), and one Alphitobius diaperinus (AD). Fish were fed a high-quality reference diet (R) and test diets obtained mixing the R diet with each of the test ingredients at a ratio of 70:30. Diets contained 1% celite as inert marker. Fish were fed to visual satiety twice a day and faecal samples collected using a continuous automatic device. Faeces were freeze dried and frozen (-20 \ub0C) until analyses. The ADC of dry matter, crude protein and ether extract of each insect meal diet were calculated. ADC for dry matter varied between 70.07 (HI1) and 80.85 (TM). ADC for protein was above 84% in all treatments and resulted the highest in MD, TM and AD treatments. Ether extract apparent digestibility significantly differed among diets with the highest value reported for TM treatment. All treatments reported values higher than 96%. Observed differences could be due to the insect species and meal treatment but in general, tested insect meals were highly digestible for rainbow trout. The results from this research could be useful to optimize the diet formulation

    Persistent photoconductivity and optical quenching of photocurrent in GaN layers under dual excitation

    Persistent photoconductivity (PPC) and optical quenching (OQ) of photoconductivity (PC) were investigated in a variety of n-GaN layers characterized by different carrier concentrations, luminescence characteristics, and strains. The relation between PPC and OQ of PC was studied by exciting the samples with two beams of monochromatic radiation of various wavelengths and intensities. The PPC was found to be excited by the first beam with a threshold at 2.0 eV, while the second beam induces OQ of PC in a wide range of photon energies with a threshold at 1.0 eV. The obtained results are explained on the basis of a model combining two previously put forward schemes with electron traps playing the main role in PPC and hole traps inducing OQ of PC.     The high frequency of manic symptoms in fibromyalgia does influence the choice of treatment?

    BACKGROUND: Mood disorders were found associated with fibromyalgia (FM) and clinical studies have revealed the efficacy of antidepressant drugs in the treatment of FM. However no specific instruments to identify manic symptoms were used. OBJECTIVES: To assess the frequency of anxiety and mood disorders (particularly bipolar disorders and manic symptoms) in a consecutive sample of women affected by FM using standardized diagnostic tools and to compare the prevalence of these disorders with that observed in a sample of healthy controls from the general population. METHODS: Cases: consecutive series of women (N = 37, mean age 50.1 ± 21.0) attending a Rheumatology outpatient Unit at the University of Cagliari. Controls: 148 women, drawn from the data bank of an epidemiological study matched for sex and age with controls according to a randomisation "after blocks" method. The Italian version of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview Simplified were carried out by physicians. Psychiatric diagnosis was formulated according to DSM-IV criteria. The Italian version of the Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) was administered to identify manic symptoms and bipolar disorders. Diagnosis of FM were carried out by rheumatologist according to the criteria of American College of Rheumatology. RESULTS: Subjects with FM showed a higher comorbidity with Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder than controls. The study showed a high frequency of manic symptoms (MDQ positive) in the sample of fibromyalgic patients (59%), approximately double that found in the control sample (P < 0.001). DISCUSSION: Clinical studies have shown the efficacy of antidepressants, especially tricyclic antidepressants, in the treatment of FM. The clinical difficulty in identifying hypomanic episodes is well known particularly where previous and not present episodes are concerned as in depressive patients. These data would suggest further studies on the subject are needed and more caution also in prescribing antidepressants in a population apparently at high risk for bipolar disorders

    Physical activity and screen time of children and adolescents before and during the COVID-19 lockdown in Germany : a natural experiment

    The impact of COVID-19 on social life has been drastic and global. However, the different numbers of cases and different actions in different countries have been leading to various interesting yet unexplored effects on human behavior. In the present study, we compare the physical activity and recreational screen time of a representative sample of 1711 4- to 17-year-olds before and during the strictest time of the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. We found that sports activity declined whereas recreational screen time increased. However, a substantial increase in habitual physical activities leads to an overall increase in physical activity among children and adolescents in Germany. The effects differ in size but not in their direction between age groups and are stable for boys and girls. We conclude from this natural experiment that physical activity among children and adolescents is highly context-driven and mutual and does not act as a functional opposite to recreational screen time
