Bibliography of the entomological literature, series I : from the beginning until 1863 (Index novus litteraturae entomologicae, Serie I: usque ad 1863)

    Get PDF
Eine taxonbezogene Literaturauswertung bis 1850 findet sich im herausragenden „Index Animalium“ (Sherborn, 1902, 1922-33).The „Index novus“ will contain about 44000 references with entomological content. The improvements made since the previous edition „Index litteraturae entomologicae“, and some of the problems which arose during preparation of the new work are explained

The content and technical development of the Electronic World Catalog of Symphyta (ECatSym) is briefly described. At present (April 2005) approximately 8.200 valid species group names and 850 genus group names are included. This represents significantly more than 90% of the known world fauna. As well as taxonomic and nomenclatural information, the database contains comprehensive data on foodplants, distribution and references

Checklist of the Braconidae of Germany (Hymenoptera).

A revised checklist of the German braconids is presented. 1485 species are listed for Germany, accompanied by a reference. In addition doubtful records, species to be deleted from the German checklist, and species incertae sedis are listed. The dates of several important papers on braconids are discussed. Because these data and the comments in the list concern not only Germany, the main chapters were written in English

Video Tutorial for Clinical Flap-Monitoring in Plastic Surgery

    Get PDF
Free tissue transfer is a well-established technique in the field of plastic reconstructive surgery. Despite great progress being made in relation to technical issues and the anatomical understanding of free flap transfers, a loss rate of between 2% and 5% remains.1–5 The main reasons for free flap failure are vascular problems, such as vascular thrombosis (venous and arterial), arterial insufficiency, active bleeding or hematoma, and venous congestion.1–4 Many studies have demonstrated that the salvage rate for flaps is inversely related to the time between the onset of vascular compromise and surgical intervention.6,7 To guarantee an immediate reaction in case of perfusion problems in free flap surgery, a continuous and sufficient flap monitoring is indispensable. Although there are numerous techniques to assess flap vitality, clinical examination remains the gold standard.8 Besides this preferred method, a handheld and implantable Doppler, microdialysis, video-based application, real-time measurement of oxygen saturation, fluorescence angiography, spectroscopy, contrast-enhanced duplex, and activated clotting time have been proposed as alternative modalities for monitoring, though none of these has provided better results than clinical examination.9,10 The postoperative clinical examination and monitoring of flaps is frequently delegated to nurses and paramedics. Thus, there is often a high variation in skill level due to the lack of clinical experience needed to assess flap vitality.11 When asked, even young plastic surgeons often admit uncertainty when it comes to assessing postoperative flap vitality. To guarantee a high level of monitoring quality, constant training is indispensable. As mentioned above, perfusion compromise—being of arterial or venous origin—emerges rarely and is hard to include consistently within a training program. Therefore, educational material that clearly elucidates different qualities in vascular compromise in flaps is highly desirable

Taxonomy and nomenclature of some Fennoscandian Sawflies, with descriptions of two new species (Hymenoptera, Symphyta)

While working on an identification guide to the sawflies of Fennoscandia, we encountered numerous taxonomic problems, for some of which we present solutions. Dicrostema Benson, 1952 is a new synonym of Phymatoceropsis Rohwer, 1916, and not congeneric with Paracharactus MacGillivray, 1908. Two species occurring in Europe are transferred to Phymatoceropsis. Dolerus aericepsellus Heidemaa and Mutanen sp. nov. and Heptamelus viitasaarii Liston, Mutanen and Prous sp. nov. are described from Finland. Abia brevicornis Leach, 1817 nom. rev. is the valid name of Abia nitens auct. nec Linnaeus, and Abia nitens (Linnaeus, 1758) is the valid name for what has recently been called Abia sericea (Linnaeus, 1767). Tenthredo haemorrhoidalis Fabricius, 1781 is treated as an unplaced species of Hymenoptera, possibly Ichneumonoidea. Calameuta variabilis (Mocsáry, 1886) is the valid name of the species recently generally called C. haemorrhoidalis. Claremontia confusa (Konow, 1886) sp. rev. and Claremontia brevicornis (Brischke, 1883) are distinct species. Dolerus coracinus (Klug, 1818) is the valid name for D. anthracinus auct. Dolerus anthracinus (Klug, 1818) is a valid species similar to D. nitens Zaddach, 1859. Dolerus coruscans Konow, 1890 sp. rev. is a valid species. Dolerus junci (Stephens, 1835) is the valid name for Dolerus cothurnatus auct. Dolerus timidus (Klug, 1818) sp. rev. is distinguished from the similar D. pratensis (Linnaeus, 1758). A neotype is designated for Astatus punctatus Klug, 1803. Lectotypes are designated for 39 nominal species. 29 species group names are new junior synonyms. We present data on some species recently collected for the first time in Finland, including first records for the Palaearctic and West Palaearctic
