Strategic Insider Trading with Imperfect Information: A Trading Volume Analysis
A model of insider trading is used to analyze the behaviour of trading volume in financial markets characterized by asymmetric information. This model extends the one in Bhattacharya and Nicodano (2001) by introducing competition among informed traders and imperfection of their private information. Contrary to the broad implications of adverse selection models and according to some empirical studies, this paper shows that trading volume is higher when the insiders are active in the market. A higher level of outsidersâ risky investment, due to an improved ĂąâŹĆrisk sharingù⏠among them, leads to a higher level of trading.
Comparison of fatty acid profile in lamb meat and baby food based on lamb meat
The aim of this study was to compare the fatty acid (FA) profile of fresh lamb meat with those of baby foods based on lamb meat. For this purpose, samples of commercial homogenized (HO) and lyophilized (LIO) baby food based on lamb meat and fresh lamb meat (FM) were analyzed
for their FA composition. All fatty acids, except for oleic acid and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), differed
among the three baby products tested. The sum of omega-6 FA and the ratio omega 6/omega 3
FA were lower in FM and LIO meat compared to HO samples. The content of total PUFA n-3 was the
highest in FM, because of its highest content of C18:3 n3, EPA, DPA and DHA compared to LIO and
HO baby food. The content of arachidonic acid was more than 6-fold higher in FM compared to LIO and
HO. This study evidenced the possibility of enhancing the FA profile of commercial baby food based on
lamb meat by using meat with healthier FA profile
Model and Design of a Power Driver for Piezoelectric Stack Actuators
A power driver has been developed to control piezoelectric stack actuators used in automotive application. A FEM model of the actuator has been implemented starting from experimental characterization of the stack and mechanical and piezoelectric parameters. Experimental results are reported to show a correct piezoelectric actuator driving method and the possibility to obtain a sensor-less positioning contro
Analog MIMO Radio-over-Copper: Prototype and Preliminary Experimental Results
Analog Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Radio-over-Copper (A-MIMO-RoC) is an
effective all-analog FrontHaul (FH) architecture that exploits any pre-existing
Local Area Network (LAN) cabling infrastructure of buildings to distribute
Radio-Frequency (RF) signals indoors. A-MIMO-RoC, by leveraging a fully analog
implementation, completely avoids any dedicated digital interface by using a
transparent end-to-end system, with consequent latency, bandwidth and cost
benefits. Usually, LAN cables are exploited mainly in the low-frequency
spectrum portion, mostly due to the moderate cable attenuation and crosstalk
among twisted-pairs. Unlike current systems based on LAN cables, the key
feature of the proposed platform is to exploit more efficiently the huge
bandwidth capability offered by LAN cables, that contain 4 twisted-pairs
reaching up to 500 MHz bandwidth/pair when the length is below 100 m. Several
works proposed numerical simulations that assert the feasibility of employing
LAN cables for indoor FH applications up to several hundreds of MHz, but an
A-MIMO-RoC experimental evaluation is still missing. Here, we present some
preliminary results obtained with an A-MIMO-RoC prototype made by low-cost
all-analog/all-passive devices along the signal path. This setup demonstrates
experimentally the feasibility of the proposed analog relaying of MIMO RF
signals over LAN cables up to 400 MHz, thus enabling an efficient exploitation
of the LAN cables transport capabilities for 5G indoor applications.Comment: Part of this work has been accepted as a conference publication to

Charger-mediated energy transfer for quantum batteries: an open system approach
The energy charging of a quantum battery is analyzed in an open quantum
setting, where the interaction between the battery element and the external
power source is mediated by an ancilla system (the quantum charger) that acts
as a controllable switch. Different implementations are analyzed putting
emphasis on the interplay between coherent energy pumping mechanisms and
thermalization
Niskopropusni estimator brzine vrtnje i ubrzanja zasnovan na obradi signala s enkodera
This paper deals with the differentiation of discrete-time, quantized signal provided by an encoder. In particular, speed and acceleration estimation with large bandwidth is required for feedback control in automation and robotics applications. The main problem in the differentiation of the encoder measurements is to combine the large bandwidth and the strong filtering of the quantization noise. The proposed speed acceleration estimator relies on typical filtered differentiator nonlinearly combined with a state-variable filter. The former produces a strongly filtered estimation, while the latter is characterized by a large bandwidth, in order to track fast signal transients. In this way, the resulting estimator has a variable bandwidth depending on the harmonic content of the encoder signals. Two versions of the estimator are presented and compared. The first one gives only a speed estimation, while the second provides also an acceleration signal. Simulation and experimental tests verify the performance of the proposed solutions. A 5k c/r encoder and a high resolution sine/cosine encoder are considered.U Älanku je opisan postupak dobivanja stvarne vrijednosti kutne brzine i ubrzanja iz vremenski i amplitudno diskretnog signala s enkodera. Prvi postupak osigurava kvalitetno filtriranje estimiranog signala, dok drugi osigurava ĆĄirok frekvencijski opseg i dobro slijeÄenje referentnog ulaznog signala. PredloĆŸeni estimator ima promjenljivu graniÄnu frekvenciju ovisnu o spektru ulaznog enkoderskog signala. Predstavljene su i usporeÄene dvije inaÄice estimatora. Prvi daje samo estimiranu vrijednost brzine a drugi i brzine i ubrzanja. Simulacijski i eksperimentalni rezultati pokazuju dobro ponaĆĄanje sustava s predloĆŸenim estimatorom. U radu su koriĆĄteni 5k c/r enkoder i rezolver kao visokorezolucijski mjerni Älan
Attractive Riesz potentials acting on hard spheres
In this paper we introduce a model for hard spheres interacting through
attractive Riesz type potentials, and we study its thermodynamic limit. We show
that the tail energy enforces optimal packing and round macroscopic shapes
The GIS Architecture Elements for the Coastal Areas Along the Adriatic Sea
The study of the national and cross-border Adriatic coastal areas will be approached by using an interdisciplinary method. A comparative reading will focus on an analysis of the main variations undergone by the area and will try to define all the elements involved in those areas where a conflicting presence exists between high quality environmental factors on the one hand and anthropological aggression on the other. In this paper we present the aim of the GES.S.TER. project, that is the creation of a protocol for territorial analysis â namely the G.I.S.A.E. Adriatic (Geographical Information System for Activities along the Coast). The Project is financed by the Interreg IIIA Programme Adriatic Cross Border from 2004 to 2007 (prof. Donatella Cialdea is the Head of GESS.S.TER.). Moreover the Project will be a case-study analysed by the GISIG - Geographical Information Systems International Group. The areas covered by the project include the national Adriatic coast, in particular the coastal area of Molise, and the cross-border coasts of Albania and Croatia (both partners in the project). In the definition of the characteristics that a territorial information system of aid to the GES.S.TER project should have, the parameters for the collection of data and for the reordering of the information, which was already in our possession, have been established. Another necessary step has been that of revising and coordinating the existing sources, keeping in mind that the final purpose of the system is to define the objective landscape qualities, we find ourselves having to face the problem of combining, and consequently, comparing, information coming from different sources. Five resource systems have been selected: physical-environmental; landscape-visual; historical-cultural; agricultural-productive; Demographic-tourism. A further source of information comes from the analysis carried out during the drawing up of the Vast Area Environmental Landscape Territorial Plans and we have defined the criteria for the selection of the indicators. These indicators will be useful for an evaluation of transformations through time of the territories, in order to prepare the documents for the strategic environmental assessment procedures too.
On the concept of medium: An empirical study
The media are a fundamental object of communication studies, but do we agree on the definition of this term? Since the 1990s, technological convergence has modified the mediascape and complicated the distinction between technical device and communication channel. Today, people can read the newspaper on a smartphone and watch television on a computer screen—a situation that makes it compelling to reflect on what a medium actually is. To discover whether agreement on this matter exists in academia, we consulted members of the editorial boards of some of the leading journals in the communication field. Based on the results of a two-step survey, the article reflects on the theoretical status of media studies and some features of the field
