Investigation of the electric field distribution in the human brain based on MRI and EEG data

    Get PDF
This work is devoted to the development of the approach to restoration of the spatial-temporal distribution of electric field in the human brain. This field was estimated from the model derived from the Maxwell’s equations with boundary conditions corresponding to electric potentials at the EEG electrodes, which are located on the surface of the head according to the standard “10-20” scheme. The MRI data were used for calculation of the spatial distribution of the electrical conductivity of biotissues in the human brain. The study of the electric field distribution using our approach was carried out for the healthy child and the child with autism. The research was carried out using the equipment of the Tomsk Regional Common Use Center of Tomsk State University

In vivo quantification of the effectiveness of topical low-dose photodynamic therapy in wound healing using two-photon microscopy

The effect of low-dose photodynamic therapy on in vivo wound healing with topical application of 5-aminolevulinic acid and methylene blue was investigated using an animal model for two laser radiation doses (1 and 4 J/cm2). A second-harmonic-generation-to-auto-fluorescence aging index of the dermis (SAAID) was analyzed by two-photon microscopy. SAAID measured at 60–80 μm depths was shown to be a suitable quantitative parameter to monitor wound healing. A comparison of SAAID in healthy and wound tissues during phototherapy showed that both light doses were effective for wound healing; however, healing was better at a dose of 4 J/cm2

Electroencephalography registration of laser acupuncture action on children with autism disorder

Laser action on acupuncture points is an alternative to traditional acupuncture. We used red semiconductor laser diodes with a wavelength of 650 nm. Three acupuncture points (GV20, LI4, P6) were selected to relieve headaches and reduce anxiety in the study. EEG data had been obtained from two siblings, one of whom is without pathologies of the nervous system (8 years), and the second has a diagnosis of autism (10 years). A significant increase in the total activity of the brain for ASD patients up to a value close to the brain activity of healthy patients was registered

Creation of a magnetic driven gate for THz rays

In this paper, magnetic fluids based on iron oxide Fe3O4 and 5BDSR alloy were obtained. Magnetic particles were obtained by nanosecond pulsed laser ablation. The preparation of the magnetic fluid was carried out by mechanical and ultrasonic stirring in a solution of polymethylphenylsiloxane. It is shown that under the influence of an external magnetic field, the spectral properties of the magnetic fluid of the 5BDSR alloy correspond to characteristics that can be used to create a magnetic gate

The study of spectral changes in THz range in normal and pathological skin in vivo depending on the dehydration methods used

The terahertz (THz) attenuated total reflectance (ATR) imaging of normal and pathological skin under the action of various dehydration agents was carried out in vivo. Studies were conducted on animal models (the mouse), patients with diabetes, and healthy volunteers. For measurements, each animal was leaned against the ATR prism of the skin surface, and several locations in the skin of each animal were analyzed. Places on the skin for analysis were chosen so that the intensity spectra of the THz signal were practically the same for selected points. THz spectra measurements were carried out every 10 minutes within 45 minutes interval under the action of a dehydration agent. 40% glucose was shown to provide the most effective improving tissue optical clearing effect in the THz range

THz laser spectroscopy exosome analysis of saliva and blood plasma

The study of exosomes of saliva and blood plasma by THz laser spectroscopy was carried out. Exosomes were sampled from patients with colorectal cancer (n = 6) and healthy volunteers (n = 5). A substantive examination of the samples absorption spectra was performed using the method of canonical correlation analysis. The presence of Glycine, LAlanine, Mannose was revealed everywhere. The Mannose content was less in exosomes samples corresponding to colorectal cancer in comparison with exosomes samples from healthy volunteers

Magnetically controlled terahertz polarization-sensitive filter based on 5BDSR microparticle ferrofluid

The paper proposes the magnetically controlled polarization-sensitive filter operating in the range of 0.2 to 1.5 THz. This filter is based on the created magnetic fluid comprising 5BDSR (FeNbCuMoCoBSi) amorphous alloy particles 50 μm in size and synthetic motor oil 5W-40. It is shown that the particle control in the magnetic fluid assists in the creation of a diffraction grating equivalent
