Enhancing Compliance through Annual Purchasing and Effort Allocation Training

    Get PDF
Recipients of grant funding must ensure compliance with grant guidelines through effective internal controls and oversight. As such, recipients are responsible for establishing, monitoring, and improving processes to ensure that funded grants are conducted according to the terms of the awards. Through this capstone project, an online annual presentation was created for purchasing and effort allocation training of the faculty and staff in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The creation of this training was a necessary addition to effective internal controls established within the Management Action Plan created in response to the 2021 Internal Audit of the Divisions of Clinical Pharmacology and Genetic Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Within the Management Action Plan, a commitment was made to retrain all faculty and staff in the areas of purchasing and effort allocations and to reestablish the role of the Division Compliance Experts. The presentation accomplished both objectives in addition to providing guidance for purchases of electronic equipment and software. This additional training will add a level of internal controls needed to ensure understanding of grant guidelines at all levels

PERVASIVE TECHNOLOGY TO REDUCE ROAD RAGE: A STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF METABOLIC CHANGES IN INDIVIDUALS WHILE DRIVING

poster abstractSince 1990, there have been 250,000 fatalities from car accidents in the United States (Warp, 2006). According to the United States Department of Transportation (nhtsa.dot.com), two-thirds of those fatalities are from acci-dents caused by road rage. That means 166,666 people died due to driver’s inability to control their anger on the road. Road rage is a serious issue that should be addressed. Often times, people don’t even realize they are becom-ing dangerously agitated until it is too late. The purpose of this study is to measure a drivers’ reaction to diverse stimuli in a simulated environment in order to examine how raising the awareness of the symptoms described might allow the driver to modify his/her behavior before engaging in disas-trous consequences. The stimuli used in testing for this study would include an array of graphics, videos and sounds. This study uses an Arduino board that connects to three bio-metric sensors which will track the users pulse, temperature and skin-conductivity. Whenever the human body is under mental stress, the parasympathetic activities of his/her heart decreases and the sympathetic activity increases (Rani, 2002). In other words, their pulse increases dramatically. Other signs of agitation include, but are not limited to: conductivity of skin increases and the tensing of muscles which causes the temperature of their extremities (fingers, hands and feet) to drop signifi-cantly. Upon IRB approval, this research will be conducted with fifty partici-pants. The data extracted from testing will be analyzed and finding’s report-ed

    Queer Space

Queer Space For this project, I photographed LGBTQIA+ young adults in their bedrooms and living spaces. My interest in these spaces stems from a desire to find places that feel like home. In my search, home does not necessarily need to be defined as the four walls in which a person lives. I would rather define "home" as a place where the subject feels safe, accepted, loved, and at peace. A "safe space" is categorized by being an environment in which a person or persons can feel confident they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm. Unfortunately, not all public spaces are designed with the hope of safe spaces for queer individuals. My goal in these images is to celebrate individuality, pride, fearlessness, and strength.B.F.A. Charting the trajectories of adopted children’s emotional and behavioral problems: The impact of early adversity and post-adoptive parental warmth

    Get PDF
Children who are adopted from care are more likely to experience enduring emotional and behavioral problems across development; however, adoptees’ trajectories of mental health problems and factors that impact their trajectories are poorly understood. Therefore, we used multilevel growth analyses to chart adoptees’ internalizing and externalizing problems across childhood, and examined the associations between preadoptive risk and postadoptive protective factors on their trajectories. This was investigated in a prospective longitudinal study of case file records (N = 374) and questionnaire-based follow-ups (N = 96) at approximately 5, 21, and 36 months postadoptive placement. Preadoptive adversity (indexed by age at placement, days in care, and number of adverse childhood experiences) was associated with higher internalizing and externalizing scores; the decrease in internalizing scores over childhood was accelerated for those exposed to lower levels of preadoptive risk. Warm adoptive parenting was associated with a marked reduction in children's internalizing and externalizing problems over time. Although potentially limited by shared methods variance and lack of variability in parental warmth scores, these findings demonstrate the deleterious impact of preadoptive risk and the positive role of exceptionally warm adoptive parenting on children's trajectories of mental health problems and have relevance for prevention and intervention strategies

Looking Beyond the Urban Core: Tobacco-related Disparities in Rural Missouri

    Get PDF
This report focuses on identifying tobacco-related disparities in terms of geographic location. Prior research has shown that numerous challenges to tobacco control efforts exist in rural settings. In addition, rural residents have been described as having less access to prevention programs and cessation services compared with people living in more urban areas.https://openscholarship.wustl.edu/cphss/1008/thumbnail.jp

Missouri County Profiles: Characteristics of Missouri Tobacco Users

    Get PDF
This report is the first in a series of Missouri County Profiles. These reports were disseminated to tobacco control stakeholders throughout Missouri to support programmatic efforts and inform strategic planning of tobacco control activities. This report presents results from the first analysis, which sought to highlight characteristics of Missouri tobacco users and gather knowledge about tobacco use among Missourians.https://openscholarship.wustl.edu/cphss/1030/thumbnail.jp

Who Wants to Quit? Tobacco Cessation in Missouri

This report provides information on tobacco use cessation in Missouri. This report highlights both groups that are in need of cessation assistance and opportunities for more effective interventions in the health care services sector. Report findings and their associated recommendations may be used by the tobacco control community to inform their planning and programmatic efforts.https://openscholarship.wustl.edu/cphss/1009/thumbnail.jp
