Reviewing the magnetic resonance imaging anatomy of the posterolateral corner of the knee and its applied importance
The purpose of this article is to review the anatomy and magnetic resonance imaging appearances of all the structures which are noted in the posterolateral corner of the knee. These structures may not be commonly heard of but play a crucial role in providing the required stability and force to the knee joint. We hope that by putting light on this less explored part of the knee this article will be useful to many practicing clinicians and operating orthopedicians
Nasal dermoid cyst with intracranial extension and an atretic dermal sinus tract
Nasofrontal masses belong to the group of congenital midface anomalies (CMFA) in paediatric age group. Nasofrontal dermoids with patent dermal sinus tract is a rare anomaly resulting from the failure of normal embryogenic process. Most patients present in infancy or early childhood. CT and MRI together are usually required for definitive diagnosis. CT imaging provides vital information about the osseous involvement while MRI is crucial for evaluation of the intracranial extent and detailed tissue characterization. Knowledge of embryonic development is important in understanding the pathologies of nasofrontal masses in paediatric age group
Metastatic dermatosis in breast carcinoma on adjuvant trastuzumab: Is skin a sanctuary site in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2-amplified disease?
Cutaneous metastasis (CM) from internal malignancies is commonly seen. Sometimes, skin metastases can be the first sign of advanced cancer or an indicator of cancer recurrence. Cases of breast cancer with cutaneous progression after or during trastuzumab therapy have been described in the past, frequently associated with systemic disease progression. However, CM during adjuvant trastuzumab therapy is very rare. It has been hypothesized that cancer cells located in the skin survive and take proliferative advantage by virtue of an immune-tolerance mechanism that hampers trastuzumab-mediated antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Magnetic resonance imaging evaluation of cruciate ligaments after arthroscopic reconstruction
Background: Due to increase in road traffic and sports injuries, tears of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) of the knee are common. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is emerging as an important tool of diagnosis and evaluation of these injuries. Methods: We carried out a prospective study on role of MRI on ten patients who had undergone ACL or PCL repair over a period of six months. In this report we present three illustrative cases to capture the spectrum of findings in our series to underline the role of MRI in management of such injuries and discuss the modalities of the procedure. Results: In our series, as demonstrated by the cases, MRI had an important role in diagnosis and evaluation of injuries to the cruciate ligaments. Conclusion: MRI can play an important role, particularly in tertiary centres, in diagnosis and evaluation of reconstructed ACL and PCL ligaments of the knee joint
Self Prepared Herbal Mouthwash Used As Pre-procedural Rinse in Reducing Dental Aerosol: A Substitute to Chemical Mouthrinse: A Clinico-Microbiological Study
Aim:To evaluate and compare the efficacy of pre-procedural mouth rinses in reducing microbial content of aerosol product during ultrasonic-scaling procedures by viable bacterial count.Materials And Methods:5 patients were assigned in each group: A- Neem, B -CHX, C-Triphala, D - Control Group.In Group A, B, C -Patient were asked to rinse their mouth with 10 ml mouthwash for 30 seconds before SRP, of which A and C are self- prepared herbal mouthwashes i.e Triphala and Neem. Aerosol will be collected, cultured and incubated on blood agar plates at specified sites from operator. CFU will be counted and result will be assessed statistically. Conclusion: The study suggests that 10 ml of Neem Mouth rinse when used 10 minutes prior to ultrasonic scaling is more potent in reducing the aerosol contamination as compared to the Triphala mouth rinse and commercially available 0.2 % Chlorhexidine mouthrinse. Also the reduction in aerosol content was seen in Tray location when rinsed with CHX and aerosol reduction in Spitoon and Chest location while rinsing with Neem mouthrinse
