Method: The purpose of this research is applied research and based on the method of data collection, there is a descriptive (non-experimental) survey. The main tool for collecting data is the check list. The reliability of the check list was 0.854 by Cronbach\u27s alpha, which indicates the reliability of the check list and the validity of the check list was confirmed through content validity and structural validity. The statistical population consists of 31 provincial portals affiliated with public libraries. RESULTS: The results of the research indicate that the quality of the system of the portal of public libraries has been lower than expected and the quality of the information portal of the public libraries institution has been higher than expected and also the quality of the public libraries portal services has been lower than expected. Conclusion: What is called the public libraries portal is a website and, of course, these news websites are very up-to-date and active in the field of news. And somehow they can be called news websites. Of course, according to the research findings of some provinces (such as East Azarbaijan province and Ardebil), they can be used as a template by providing scientific and educational materials and applying attractive design

In the present work, the drying of calcium carbonate in a batch spouted bed dryer with inert particles has been investigated experimentally. The effect of several operating parameters including air temperature (90, 100, and 110 ˚C), air velocity (Ums, 1.2 Ums, and 1.5 Ums), and dry solid mass (5, 10, 20 g) has been studied. The Taguchi method has been applied to determine the optimal parameters and also to reduce the number of required experimental runs. It has been found that the dryer performance was affected by all parameters. It has also been found that drying with 5 g dry solid at a temperature of 100 ˚C and a velocity of 1.2 Ums leads to maximum drying efficiency. Additionally, the effect of air inlet velocity and temperature on the drying kinetics of calcium carbonate has been investigated. Several semi-theoretical models with temperature and velocity dependent parameters have been selected to estimate the drying kinetics. The performance of all fitted models was acceptable but the logarithmic model was the best model in terms of the statistical analysis

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short-term and long-term results of laparoscopic adrenalectomies carried out in our center. Materials and Methods: A total of 67 laparoscopic adrenalectomies were performed during the 10 years between 1995 and 2005 at Shahid Labbafinejad Medical Center. A transperitoneal lateral approach was used in 65 (97.0%) of the patients, and retroperitoneal approach was used in 2 (3.0%). The clinical characteristics and the outcomes were reviewed in a retrospective study. Results: Indications for laparoscopic adrenalectomy in our patients were as follows: pheochromocytoma in 28 patients (41.8%), aldosteroneproducing adenoma in 15 (22.4%), pseudocyst in 6 (9.0%), Cushing syndrome (macronodular adrenocortical hyperplasia) in 5 (7.5%), nonfunctioning adenoma (incidentaloma) in 5 (7.5%), myelolipoma in 2 (3.0%), almost normal adrenal tissue in 2 (3.0%), adrenal cyst in 2 (3.0%), adenocarcinoma in 1 (1.4%), and schwannoma in 1 (1.4%). The mean operative time for unilateral cases was 149.0 ± 36.1 minutes. The mean intraoperative blood loss was 126 ± 36 mL. Conversion rate to open surgery was 7.5%. Reoperation due to hemorrhage was performed in 1 patient. Conclusion: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a safe procedure in some adrenal tumors and a reasonable option for selected large adrenal tumors when complete resection is technically feasible and there is no evidence of local invasion

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has been the preferred procedure for the removal of large renal stones in Iran since 1990. Recently, we encountered a series of devastating neurologic complications during PCNL, including paraplegia and hemiplegia. There are several reports of neurologic complications following PCNL owing to paradoxical air emboli, but there are no reports of paraplegia following PCNL. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who had undergone PCNL in 13 different endourologic centers and retrieved data related to neurologic complications after PCNL, including coma, paraplegia, hemiplegia, and quadriplegia. Results: The total number of PCNL procedures in these 13 centers was 30,666. Among these procedures, 11 cases were complicated by neurologic events, and four of these cases experienced paraplegia. All events happened with the patient in the prone position with the use of general anesthesia and in the presence of air injection. There were no reports of neurologic complications in PCNL procedures performed with the patient under general anesthesia and in the prone position and with contrast injection. Conclusions: It can be assumed that using room air to opacify the collecting system played a major role in the occurrence of these complications. Likewise, the prone position and general anesthesia may predispose to these events in the presence of air injectio

Abstract BACKGROUND: Access to vascular system needed for hemodialysis among patients in end stage renal disease (ESRD). Cardiac performance has been affected by chronic renal failure based on several known causes during diseases process. We have compared in this study some of cardiac performance indicators before and after fistulization in diabetic and non-diabetic ESRD patients. METHODS: Fifty ESRD patients were included in the study. Systolic pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP), cardiac output (CO) and ejection fraction (EF) were measured by echocardiography before fistulization and was repeated at least 8 months after fistulization. Data analyzed in diabetic and non-diabetic patients. RESULTS: Thirty four patients were included in analysis (28 men and 6 women). Mean time of follow up was 10.5 ± 1.3 months. The mean of PAP before and after fistulization was 25.16 mmHg and 21.3 mmHg, respectively in all individuals (P > 0.05). The mean of cardiac output before and after making fistula was 5580 ml/min and 5680 ml/min, respectively (P < 0.05). Diabetic patients showed a significant reduction in their mean of cardiac ejection fraction before and after intervention (EF1 = 66.9%, EF2 = 51.4%) comparing with non-diabetic patients (EF1 = 58.5, EF2 = 57.5) (P < 0.05). PAP changes and CO changes had not any significant difference between diabetic and non-diabetic patients. DISCUSSION: Fistulization in ESRD patients can improve cardiac performance among these patients. This change may be differing among patients based on the cause of renal failure. Diabetes mellitus may be one of the parameters that can modulate this affect. This should be test in more detailed studies. Keywords: Fistulization, End Stage Renal Diseases, Cardiac Performance, Diabetes mellitus</p

Protective role of ellagic acid and taurine against fluoxetine induced hepatotoxic effects on biochemical and oxidative stress parameters, histopathological changes, and gene expressions of IL-1β, NF-κB, and TNF-α in male Wistar rats

No full text
Purposes: Hepatic bioactivation of fluoxetine (FXN) could increase free radicals' generation provoking hepatotoxicity. Therefore, the protective effects of ellagic acid (EA) and taurine (TAU) treatments against fluoxetineinduced liver damage in rats were examined.Materials and methods: Sixty four male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to 8 groups (n = 8). Group (1) Control, group (2) FXN, group (3) FXN + EA, group (4) FXN + TAU, group (5) FXN + EA + TAU, group (6) EA, group (7) TAU, and group (8) EA + TAU. Then, the serum and tissue parameters of the oxidative stress were examined.Key findings: FXN significantly raised serum MDA, protein carbonyl, lipid profile, ALT, AST, ALP, total bilirubin, serum IL-1 beta; and gene expressions of IL-1 beta, NF-Kappa B, and TNF-alpha. Moreover, it significantly decreased HDL-C, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), catalase activity, vitamin C, and SOD activity in the liver compared to group 1. When compared to group 2, EA and TAU treatment dramatically increased antioxidant capacity and lowered hepatotoxic biochemical markers and cellular inflammation. Results also showed a protective effect of treatment against oxidative damage caused by hepatocytes' cytoarchitecture.Significance: Our study concluded the beneficial effects of EA and TAU on FXN-induced hepatotoxicity. These effects were derived from free radical scavenging properties and the anti-inflammatory effects related to IL-1 beta, NF-Kappa B, and TNF-alpha gene expression inhibition

The potential of zwitterionic nanoliposomes against neurotoxic alpha-synuclein aggregates in Parkinson's Disease

Get PDF
The protein α-synuclein (αSN) aggregates to form fibrils in neuronal cells of Parkinson's patients. Here we report on the effect of neutral (zwitterionic) nanoliposomes (NLPs), supplemented with cholesterol (NLP-Chol) and decorated with PEG (NLP-Chol-PEG), on αSN aggregation and neurotoxicity. Both NLPs retard αSN fibrillization in a concentration-independent fashion. They do so largely by increasing lag time (formation of fibrillization nuclei) rather than elongation (extension of existing nuclei). Interactions between neutral NLPs and αSN may locate to the N-terminus of the protein. This interaction can even perturb the interaction of αSN with negatively charged NLPs which induces an α-helical structure in αSN. This interaction was found to occur throughout the fibrillization process. Both NLP-Chol and NLP-Chol-PEG were shown to be biocompatible in vitro, and to reduce αSN neurotoxicity and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels with no influence on intracellular calcium in neuronal cells, emphasizing a prospective role for NLPs in reducing αSN pathogenicity in vivo as well as utility as a vehicle for drug delivery
