    Sikap terhadap kemahiran pemikiran kritikal dan hubungannya dengan prestasi akademik dalam kalangan pelajar-pelajar UKM

    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti pola sikap pemikiran kritis dalam kalangan mahasiswa Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Seramai 200 orang mahasiswa UKM terlibat dalam kajian ini. Responden kajian yang terlibat dalam kajian terdiri daripada pelajar-pelajar tahun satu ijazah sarjana muda sehingga pelajar doktor falsafah UKM. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan untuk mengukur kajian berkaitan dengan Sikap Kemahiran Pemikiran Kritis ini ialah California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST) iaitu terdiri daripada sikap-sikap pengadilan, sikap keterbukaan, sikap menghadapi cabaran, sikap objektiviti, sikap rasa ingin tahu, sikap sistematik, sikap analitik, sikap kematangan kognitif dan sikap ingin mencari kebenaran. Kajian adalah berbentuk kuantitatif menggunakan soal selidik. Kajian ini dianalisis menggunakan analisis ujian t, ujian korelasi, ujian regresi dan ujian Kruskaal Wallis. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa sikap-sikap pemikiran kritis yang paling dominan dalam kalangan mahasiswa UKM adalah sikap rasa ingin tahu. Selain itu, sikap pemikiran kritis mempunyai hubungan yang tidak signifikan pencapaian akademik mahasiswa di UKM. Justeru kajian yang lebih komprehensif dan meluas perlu dijalankan terutamanya yang melibatkan pemikiran kritis dalam kalangan pelajar universiti, matrikulasi mahupun pra universiti di Malaysia agar dapat membantu dalam mempercepatkan pembinaan modal insan kelas pertama yang berteraskan high order thinking menjelang Wawasan 2020

    An Empirical Study of the Relationship between Mentoring program and Mentees’ psychosocial Development

    The study was undertaken to investigate the correlation between mentoring program and mentees’ psychosocial development using self-report questionnaires collected from undergraduate students in teaching based higher learning institutions in Sarawak, Malaysia. The outcomes of SmartPLS path model analysis showed two important findings: firstly, communication positively and significantly correlated with psychosocial. Secondly, support positively and significantly correlated with psychosocial. In sum, the result demonstrates that mentoring program does act as an important determinant of mentees’ psychosocial development in the organizational sample. In addition, this study provides discussion, implications and conclusion.&nbsp

    This paper aims to provide insights into the learners’ Mathematics anxiety level, gender differences in the anxiety level, and the relationship between Mathematics anxiety and Additional Mathematics achievement. Random systematic sampling method was used to recruit 69 form four students in Malaysia who took Additional Mathematics Course as the respondents for this study. This study employed correlational method and it used questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. More specifically, Mathematics self-efficacy and anxiety questionnaire (MSEAQ) was used in this study. Mathematics anxiety level was measured using descriptive statistics and t-test was used to compute the mean differences between male and female students’ Mathematics anxiety level. The relationship between Mathematics anxiety and Additional Mathematics achievement was determined by applying Pearson correlational test. The findings reveal that most respondents perceived themselves to have moderate Mathematics anxiety level. Besides, the male students had higher Mathematics anxiety level compared to female students. This study also shows that there was a positive relationship between Mathematics anxiety and Additional Mathematics performance. Data yang diperoleh telah dianalisis menggunakan perisian statistik SPSS menggunakan analisis diskriptif untuk melihat tahap kebimbangan Matematik pelajar, dan ujian-t membandingkan min kebimbangan Matematik pelajar lelaki dan pelajar perempuan. Manakala analisis Korelasi Pearson telah digunakan untuk melihat hubungan antara kebimbangaan Matematik dengan pencapaian Matematik Tambahan pelajar. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan kebanyakan pelajar mempunyai tahap kebimbangan matematik yang sederhana. Tahap kebimbangan Matematik dalam kalangan pelajar lelaki didapati lebih tinggi dari tahap kebimbangan Matematik pelajar perempuan. Selain itu, terdapat hubungan positif terhadap pencapaian Matematik dengan pencapaian Matematik Tambahan pelajar yang terlibat.     Profil Kecerdasan Emosi Guru-guru Sekolah Menengah Zon Tengah Semenanjung Malaysia

    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat profil kecerdasan emosi (EQ) guru-guru sekolah menengah Zon Tengah Semenanjung Malaysia. Seramai 174 orang guru yang berkhidmat di sebelas buah sekolah menengah telah dipilih sebagai sampel kajian. Data telah dikumpulkan menggunakan Inventori Kepintaran Emosi Malaysia (IKEM)/Malaysian Emotional Quoetient Inventory (MEQI) oleh Noriah Mohd Ishak et al (2003). Data dianalisis menggunakan perisian SPSS Versi 11.5 dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif seperti min, peratus dan sisihan piawai. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan, graf profil bagi guru-guru di kawasan Zon Tengah dan graf profil bagi guru-guru mengikut negeri didapati mempunyai skor min yang tinggi pada domain kerohanian dan kematangan, namun rendah pada domain kemahiran sosial. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan profil kecerdasan emosi (EQ) antara guru-guru di Malaysia dengan profil kecerdasan emosi guru-guru di kawasan Zon Tengah Semenanjung Malaysia.     The Development Of Expert Learners In The Classroom

    The term ‘expert learner’ refers to students who are actively engaged with the materials learned and take responsibility for their own learning. Literature reviews suggested the use of metacognitive approach to help develop students to become expert learners. Research on development of expert learners can be traced from movements that focused on the importance of learning strategies and “learning how to learn” approach. Some researchers combined the role of teachers and students in formulating a framework on how to develop expert learners. This study aimed to identify issues related to the development of expert learners in the classroom. Data were collected from focus group with students and teachers in Malaysia.  Findings were reduced into thematic categories representing students’ and teachers’ perceptions on the issues. Results of the study showed that the use of metacognitive strategies among students is very minimal and many teachers did not aware the benefit of making the learning process visible to students. The implementation of “learning to learn” approach in the teaching and learning process remain one of the key problem need to be address in order to help students learn effectively in the classroom

    Trait-trait personaliti pembuli, mangsa buli dan pembuli-mangsa dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah: model lima faktor

    Kajian ini adalah untuk melihat perbezaan trait-trait personaliti dalam kalangan pelajar seramai 328 orang pelajar tingkatan empat yang melibatkan sepuluh buah sekolah menengah di Negeri Sembilan. Kajian berbentuk kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kaedah tinjauan bagi mengutip data. Terdapat lima domain dalam trait-trait personaliti yang dicadangkan oleh Model Lima Faktor Goldberg iaitu domain Kesedaran, Penerimaan, Kestabilan Emosi, Ekstraversi dan Keterbukaan. Analisis deskriptif min menunjukkan domain Kesedaran, Kestabilan Emosi, Ekstraversi dan Keterbukaan antara pembuli, mangsa buli dan pembuli-mangsa adalah sederhana. Manakala, domain Penerimaan adalah tinggi. Analisis ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara pembuli, mangsa buli dan pembuli-mangsa dalam dua domain Kestabilan Emosi dan Kesedaran. Program-program intervensi yang sesuai, efektif dan menjurus kepada trait-trait personaliti pelajar yang terlibat dengan buli dapat dirancang dan dilaksanakan oleh pihak-pihak berkepentingan dalam pendidikan dalam menangani buli pelajar di sekolah

    A Study of the Learning Styles of Malaysian Students

    This study examines the learning style of students at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. A translated version of the Grasha-Riechmann Learning Style Inventory was distributed to students in pure science, social science and professional courses. Results indicated that students from different fields of study varied very slightly but not significantly in their learning style. The male students showed a slightly higher inclination towards Independence and Avoidance learning styles while female students were found to be slightly more Participative and Competitive. It was found that Collaborative and Competitive learning styles were dominant among UKM students and that Collaborative, Dependent and Participative styles were associated with academic performance. The implications of these findings are discussed in terms of university teaching and learning to accommodate different learning style of students in order to meet the objectives and vision of the national university
