The project wa scarried out in and around Chromepet area,Chennaiwhich covers parts of MGR Nagar,Eashwari Nagar,Gokulam colony toPammal includingLeatherIndustries surrounding Tirupananthal Lake. The area serve sas a hometown for various small and large scale tanning industries along with housing areas, educational institutions and lakes. Tanning of leather mainly Chrome tanning is popularly practiced here, so the place is called ‘Chrome`pet.’It is situated in the outskirts of Chennai city,TamilNadu. The location taken for study is 13km away from the Bay of Bengal. About 25 samples were collected and the physico-Chemical parameters including copper and chromium of ground water samples has been analysed. Thus this study is aimed to indicate the impact of effluent from tanning industries on the deterioration of ground water quality in this area. Keywords: Physico-Chemical characteristics, Chromepet, Chromium, Copper, drinkingwater.

Endodontic management of single rooted immature mandibular second molar with single canal using MTA and platelet-rich fibrin membrane barrier: A case report

An immature tooth with pulpal necrosis and periapical pathology imposes a great difficulty to the endodontists. Endodontic treatment options for such teeth consist of conventional apexification procedure with and without apical barriers. Various materials have been tried as apical matrix in the past. This article demonstrates the newer concept of using platelet rich fibrin membrane as an apical matrix barrier for stabilization of MTA in root end apexification procedure. Platelet Rich Fibrin is an autologous fibrin matrix containing a large quantity of platelet and leukocyte cytokines, which enhance healing by release of growth factors. This case report represents successful management of a case of an immature mandibular second molar with single root and single c-shaped canal. The unusual canal morphology was diagnosed with the help of a CBCT scan. Faster periradicular healing and complete resolution of symptoms occurred with combined use of MTA and PRF membrane as an apical barrie

Endodontic management of open apex using MTA and platelet-rich fibrin membrane barrier: A newer matrix concept

Objectives: Endodontic management of open apex using MTA and platelet-rich fibrin membrane as an apical matrix barrier. Study design: An immature tooth with pulpal necrosis and periapical pathology imposes a great difficulty to the endodontist. Endodontic treatment options for such teeth consist of conventional apexification procedure with and without apical barriers. This article demonstrates the use of an apical matrix barrier in form of a platelet rich fibrin membrane for stabilization of MTA in root end apexification procedure. PRF is an autologous fibrin matrix containing a large quantity of platelet and leukocyte cytokines, which enhance healing by release of growth factors. These case reports present apexification and successful healing with combined use of MTA and PRF membrane as an apical barrier Results: PRF membrane can serve as an efficient apical matrix for condensation of MTA. Combination of PRF membrane and MTA is an effective method for management of difficult cases of open apex. PRF is a strong fibrin membrane enriched with platelet and growth factors that accelerate periapical healing

Rosai Dorfman Disease - A Rare Presentation of Cervical Lymphadenopathy - A Case Report

    Get PDF
Rosai Dorfman disease is an uncommon histiocytic disorder presenting as bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy in children and young adults. Under the revised classification of histiocytic disorders, it is classified in the` R’ group of histiocytosis. Cutaneous Rosai -Dorfman disease is regarded as a separate entity which falls under the`C’ group of histiocytosis according to this classification system. We herein report a case of cervical lymphadenopathy who initially developed swelling in the right side of the neck and later developed in the left side of the neck. Patient underwent mantoux test which showed induration of 22mm which was significant. No other symptoms like cough with expectoration, loss of appetite was present.chest x ray was normal. Tuberculous Lymphadenitis was suspected. FNAC was done but confirmatory diagnosis was not obtained, so Excision biopsy was done. Finally, microscopic examination revealed marked emperipolesis with sheets of mature lymphocytes and plasma cells which is pathognomic cytoarchitecture of Rosai Dorfman disease. No evidence of granuloma/ RS cells/ atypia seen. Immunohistochemistry showed S -100 – strong positivity

Digital Literacies and Sustainable Development: Narratives From A Tale of Two Cities

This article is a status report of the on-going efforts of the DiLiterati Group (funded by Singapore’s Ministry of Education and led by Ravi Sharma) to investigate the role of digital literacies in fostering sustainable development. In this research, we are trying to investigate how the knowledge disparities could be bridged with digital literacy and whether the resultant “level playing field” will generate greater contributions of national wealth and a more equitable sharing of it. This culminated in the synthesis of a Digital Literacy Maturity Model. A quantitative approach to sense-making did not reveal much support for the model we had anticipated. Therefore a procedure to delve deeper into the qualitative and contextual was formulated to frame “narratives” that suggest “lessons learnt” and “best practices” from economies that have demonstrated successful sustainable growth and development. To test the efficacy of the procedure, Singapore and Hong Kong were selected as pilot subjects of interest

An Interpretable Machine Learning Model to Predict Cortical Atrophy in Multiple Sclerosis

    Get PDF
To date, the relationship between central hallmarks of multiple sclerosis (MS), such as white matter (WM)/cortical demyelinated lesions and cortical gray matter atrophy, remains unclear. We investigated the interplay between cortical atrophy and individual lesion-type patterns that have recently emerged as new radiological markers of MS disease progression. We employed a machine learning model to predict mean cortical thinning in whole-brain and single hemispheres in 150 cortical regions using demographic and lesion-related characteristics, evaluated via an ultrahigh field (7 Tesla) MRI. We found that (i) volume and rimless (i.e., without a "rim" of iron-laden immune cells) WM lesions, patient age, and volume of intracortical lesions have the most predictive power; (ii) WM lesions are more important for prediction when their load is small, while cortical lesion load becomes more important as it increases; (iii) WM lesions play a greater role in the progression of atrophy during the latest stages of the disease. Our results highlight the intricacy of MS pathology across the whole brain. In turn, this calls for multivariate statistical analyses and mechanistic modeling techniques to understand the etiopathogenesis of lesions

Mapping cover crop species in southeastern Michigan using Sentinel-2 satellite data and Google Earth Engine

Cover crops are a critical agricultural practice that can improve soil quality, enhance crop yields, and reduce nitrogen and phosphorus losses from farms. Yet there is limited understanding of the extent to which cover crops have been adopted across large spatial and temporal scales. Remote sensing offers a low-cost way to monitor cover crop adoption at the field scale and at large spatio-temporal scales. To date, most studies using satellite data have mapped the presence of cover crops, but have not identified specific cover crop species, which is important because cover crops of different plant functional types (e.g., legumes, grasses) perform different ecosystem functions. Here we use Sentinel-2 satellite data and a random forest classifier to map the cover crop species cereal rye and red clover, which represent grass and legume functional types, in the River Raisin watershed in southeastern Michigan. Our maps of agricultural landcover across this region, including the two cover crop species, had moderate to high accuracies, with an overall accuracy of 83%. Red clover and cereal rye achieved F1 scores that ranged from 0.7 to 0.77, and user's and producer's accuracies that ranged from 63.3% to 86.2%. The most common misclassification of cover crops was fallow fields with remaining crop stubble, which often looked similar because these cover crop species are typically planted within existing crop stubble, or interseeded into a grain crop. We found that red-edge bands and images from the end of April and early July were the most important for classification accuracy. Our results demonstrate the potential to map individual cover crop species using Sentinel-2 imagery, which is critical for understanding the environmental outcomes of increasing crop diversity on farms
