A Sound and Complete Axiomatization of Majority-n Logic

    Get PDF
Manipulating logic functions via majority operators recently drew the attention of researchers in computer science. For example, circuit optimization based on majority operators enables superior results as compared to traditional logic systems. Also, the Boolean satisfiability problem finds new solving approaches when described in terms of majority decisions. To support computer logic applications based on majority a sound and complete set of axioms is required. Most of the recent advances in majority logic deal only with ternary majority (MAJ- 3) operators because the axiomatization with solely MAJ-3 and complementation operators is well understood. However, it is of interest extending such axiomatization to n-ary majority operators (MAJ-n) from both the theoretical and practical perspective. In this work, we address this issue by introducing a sound and complete axiomatization of MAJ-n logic. Our axiomatization naturally includes existing majority logic systems. Based on this general set of axioms, computer applications can now fully exploit the expressive power of majority logic.Comment: Accepted by the IEEE Transactions on Computer

ELECTROSTATIC (LANGMUIR) PROBE MEASUREMENTS IN RF DRIVEN He, N2, BCl3, AND BCl3/N2 PLASMAS

A Langmuir probe diagnostic system was developed to measure the electron density distribution in BCl3/N2 mixtures to determine if an average electron energy increase might be partially responsible for the previously observed etch rate enhancement of GaAs with nitrogen addition. The system was validated in both helium and nitrogen plasmas. Probe measurements showed that as the nitrogen concentration in BCl3/N2 plasmas increased, the average electron energy actually decreased (5.52 eV @ 0% N2, 4.14 eV @ 30% N2, and 3.69 eV @ 60% N2). However, an increase in negative ion density was observed with nitrogen addition reaching a maximum at 40% N2. Although negative ions play no role in etching, this trend seems to correlate with the observed etch rate enhancement. A plausible explanation for both the increase in etch species and the increase in negative ion density is an increase in dissociation due to energy transfer from N2 metastables

Counseling Needs of Widows in Rivers State: Implications for Counseling

    Get PDF
This study investigated the counselling needs of widows in Rivers State implication for study. Thesample of this study consisted of 2000 widows from Rivers State. These widows were drawn using the purposivesampling technique. The instrument used for the data collection was a self made questionnaire-widows needsassessment questionnaire (WNAQ). This was validated and its reliability coefficient was 0.84 and 66respectively.The WNAQ sought information on widows counselling needs based on their age, family size, size ofchildren and socio-economic background. Each item had 4 point likerf scale set against it. The response optionsranged from strongly needed to needed. Each subject was required to indicate the extent to which widowsneeded guidance or not. Two hypotheses were formulated for the study. T-test statistics was used to test thehypotheses respectively. It was found that widows needed counselling services irrespective of their age andfamily size respectively. There is no significant difference between this counselling need of young widows and their elderly ones. There is no significant difference between the counselling needs of the widows with large families and thosewith small family size. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that Government should design allhuman rights programme with a gender component to automatically include an assessment of the widow’ssituation and their access to economic and social rights. The widows should be of height priority and finallyprogrammes for the widows’ empowerment are necessary if their rehabilitation is to be achieved

High speed architectures for finding the firsttwo maximum/minimum values

High speed architectures for finding the first two maximum/minimum values are of paramount importance in several applications, including iterative (e.g. turbo and LDPC) decoders. In this brief, stemming from a previous work, based on radix-2 solutions, we propose higher and mixed radix implementations that improve the architecture latency. Post place and route results on a 180 nm CMOS standard cell technology show that the proposed architectures achieve lower latency than radix-2 solutions with a moderate area increas
