Emphasis is placed on its one of a kind software development as well as algorithms to help improve the technological side of its clients. With the ever growing market in technology, Xenwork is constantly looking to improve in any way it can. Xenwork places a high value on customer service and marketing. Therefore, it takes an extra step to reach out to potential customers with personalized scripted messages. In addition to reaching out to potential clients, Xenwork also makes sure to be updated on what’s happening in the information technology scene in Chicago. My internship focuses on these interactions. The aim of my project is to determine what company would be most compatible with Xenwork in terms of business. In order to achieve this, I will be assisting in the reaching out process as well as the gathering of contact information.https://digitalcommons.imsa.edu/intern_reports_2020/1032/thumbnail.jp

Marketing and Design Applications in Website Development

Are there universal guidelines that ensure the efficacy of a business website’s design and marketing appeal to consumers? Through the field studies of competitor businesses of private tutoring company CourseStars, LLC. as well as research journals confirming the significance of behavioral economics working hand in hand with user experience website design, we determined that the best course of action was to rebrand the CourseStars website to reflect a personal connection its tutors can make with their students. The general principles to make a “good website” are ease of use, trust, transaction security, and behaviorally, using consumers’ cost-benefit analysis and their other biases. This and the streamlining of the website’s appearance and organization served to expand CourseStars’s target audience and increase customer retention via engagement on the website.https://digitalcommons.imsa.edu/intern_reports_2020/1033/thumbnail.jp

Behind the rainbow, "Tongqi" wives of men who have sex with men in China: a systematic review

open access articleBackground: Due to the restrictions and stigmatization of homosexuality in China, there has emerged the “Tongqi,” or the wives of men who have sex with men (MSM). There are around 14 million Tongqi wives whose needs for support are often overshadowed. This phenomenon has been largely under researched, this review is the first to address the current data on the Tongqi. The aim of this systematic review is to begin to provide insight into the pre-existing data and the further support that is needed for the wives of MSM. Methods: The researchers searched PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CNKI, Sinomed and WangFang databases from their inception date until June 7, 2019. Handsearching was also completed to provide a rich data set. Results: The articles were summarized and analyzed for thematic clusters. From the selected article, five themes emerged, including Sexual Health Issues, Intimate Partner Violence, Mental Health Status, Marriage Dissatisfaction, and Coping Strategies. These themes often intersected to provide a complex understanding of the current gaps in support provided to Tongqi. Conclusion: Tongqi wives remain a hidden population in Chinese mainstream society, who deserves a sensitive approach to support. The study revealed that the MSM wives suffer severe mental, physical, health, and life related harms. However, instead of situating them into the victim roles, many women take on an identity of empowerment and are working together, aiming to make social changes. In order to address the Tongqi phenomenon, it is also essential to reduce the discrimination toward homosexuality. Tongqi are a special group of Chinese women, they require further intensive research attention

Behavioral ontogeny in larvae and early juveniles of the giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis) (Pisces: Carangidae)

Behavior of young (8−18 mm SL) giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis), a large coral-reef−associated predator, was observed in the laboratory and the ocean. Size was a better predictor of swimming speed and endurance than was age. Critical speed increased with size from 12 to 40 cm/s at 2.7 cm/s for each mm increase in size. Mean scaled critical speed was 19 body lengths/s and was not size related. Swimming speed in the ocean was 4 to 20 cm/s (about half of critical speed) and varied among areas, but within each area, it increased at 2 cm/s for each mm increase in size. Swimming endurance in the laboratory increased from 5 to 40 km at 5 km for each mm increase in size. Vertical distribution changed ontogenetically: larvae swam shallower, but more variably, and then deeper with growth. Two-thirds of individuals swam directionally with no ontogenetic increase in orientation precision. Larvae swam offshore off open coasts, but not in a bay. In situ observations of C. ignobilis feeding, interacting with pelagic animals, and reacting to reefs are reported. Manus

A cloud-based path-finding framework: Improving the performance of real-time navigation in games

    Get PDF
This paper reviews current research in Cloud utilisation within games and finds that there is little beyond Cloud gaming and Cloud MMOs. To this end, a proof-of-concept Cloud-based Path-finding framework is introduced. This was developed to determine the practicality of relocating the computation for navigation problems from consumer-grade clients to powerful business-grade servers, with the aim of improving performance. The results gathered suggest that the solution might be impractical. However, because of the poor quality of the data, the results are largely inconclusive. Thus recommendations and questions for future research are posed.N/

    ObVi-SLAM: Long-Term Object-Visual SLAM

Robots responsible for tasks over long time scales must be able to localize consistently and scalably amid geometric, viewpoint, and appearance changes. Existing visual SLAM approaches rely on low-level feature descriptors that are not robust to such environmental changes and result in large map sizes that scale poorly over long-term deployments. In contrast, object detections are robust to environmental variations and lead to more compact representations, but most object-based SLAM systems target short-term indoor deployments with close objects. In this paper, we introduce ObVi-SLAM to overcome these challenges by leveraging the best of both approaches. ObVi-SLAM uses low-level visual features for high-quality short-term visual odometry; and to ensure global, long-term consistency, ObVi-SLAM builds an uncertainty-aware long-term map of persistent objects and updates it after every deployment. By evaluating ObVi-SLAM on data from 16 deployment sessions spanning different weather and lighting conditions, we empirically show that ObVi-SLAM generates accurate localization estimates consistent over long-time scales in spite of varying appearance conditions.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, 1 table plus appendix with 4 figures and 1 tabl

Ang-1 Gene Therapy Inhibits Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α (HIF-1α)-Prolyl-4-Hydroxylase-2, Stabilizes HIF-1α Expression, and Normalizes Immature Vasculature in db/db Mice

OBJECTIVE— Diabetic impaired angiogenesis is associated with impairment of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) as well as vasculature maturation. We investigated the potential roles and intracellular mechanisms of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) gene therapy on myocardial HIF-1α stabilization and vascular maturation in db/db mice

Young adults’ attitudes towards vaping content on Instagram: Qualitative interviews utilizing the associative imagery technique

    Get PDF
Backgound: Vaping among young adults (18-24), increased 46% from 2017-2018, resulting in adverse health effects and vulnerability to nicotine dependence. Young adults spend three hours per day using social media, particularly Instagram, which is dominated by pro-vaping messages. Therefore, young adults’ exposure to vaping content can result in positive perceptions of vaping. Aim: Using the associative imagery technique, our goal was to understand the favorability of Instagram posts depicting aspects of vaping and how young adults relate to the images. Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 young adults using the analytic induction method. Results: Three main themes emerged: 1) the power of color and visual aesthetics, meaning participants were drawn to colorful imagery; 2) distancing, when participants attempted to separate themselves from vaping culture; and 3) the environment influences perceptions, meaning participants paid attention to popular content, which enhanced its perceived credibility. Discussion: The type of social media platform and users' expectations are just as important as the vaping content. Attitudes of social vapers compared to hardcore vapers may indicate specific aspects of content perceived as appealing. Conclusions: Visually appealing vaping content impacts young adults, but they are hesitant to share content as to be labeled as a “vaper.
