The effect of Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) biochar and Ground Magnesium Limestone (GML) application on aluminium availability and rice growth performance grown in acid sulphate soil / Muhammad Lukman Alwi

Rice has a crucial role in food security but the production is limited grown in acid sulphate soil. Soil amendment using biological charcoal (biochar) from Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) is one alternative as liming material in order to increase the soil pH. The utilization of acid sulphate soil for rice cultivation is one alternative option to increase the rice production. However, the main problem associated with this soil is due to its low pH and high content of exchangeable aluminium. The main objective this study was to investigate the effect of lime and biochar application on soil pH, aluminium availability and plant growth performance in acid sulphate soil. A pot experiment was conducted with the application different level of soil amendment: control (Non-amended soil), 4 tan/ha lime, combination of 2 tan/ha lime with 2.5 tan/ha biochar, 2 tan/ha lime with 5 tan/ha biochar and 2 tan/ha lime with 10 tan/ha biochar. From the finding, the application of lime can increase the soil pH from 3.72 to 4.08 and reduce the exchangeable aluminium concentration as compared to non-amended soil. In addition, the combination between lime and biochar also give good performance both plant heights and soil pH compare to (Non-amended soil). Therefore, it is recommended that the application of biochar together with lime also can be as good soil amendment and has potential in reducing aluminium availability on acid sulphate soil

PEMBERDAYAAN NELAYAN KABUPATEN BONE MELALUI PELATIHAN PERBAIKAN PERAHU FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC (FRP)

Abstract. Bone Regency has a coastline of 138 km with a total of 9,397 fishermen who are generally classified as small fishermen. Angkue Village, Kajuara Subdistrict, is one of the development areas of marine and fisheries potential in Bone Regency, where for the last 3 years, fishermen have started using fiberglass boats in fishing activities. Based on field observations, there are several fiberglass boats owned by fishermen that are not used because they have some damage that they cannot repair and are left alone. Empowerment activities for fishing communities in Angkue Village are important, where fishermen's knowledge, skills and quality really need to be improved. The Community Partnership Program (PKM) aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Angkue Village fishermen in fiberglass boat repair through counseling and training in fiberglass boat repair. Evaluation of the increase in participant knowledge is done by pre-test and post-test after counseling. Evaluation of participant skills is carried out during direct training. The results of PKM activities in Angkue Village showed that 83% of participants who attended counseling had good knowledge about fiberglass materials and fiberglass boat repair techniques, and 75% of trainees were able to properly repair fiberglass boat damage. Abstrak. Kabupaten Bone memiliki garis pantai sepanjang 138 km dengan jumlah nelayan sebanyak 9.397 orang yang umumnya tergolong nelayan kecil. Desa Angkue Kecamatan Kajuara merupakan salah satu daerah pengembangan potensi kelautan dan perikanan di Kabupaten Bone dimana sejak 3 tahun terakhir ini nelayannya sudah mulai menggunakan perahu fiberglass dalam kegiatan penangkapan ikan. Berdasarkan hasil observasi lapangan terdapat beberapa perahu fiberglass milik nelayan yang tidak digunakan karena mengalami beberapa kerusakan yang tidak bisa mereka perbaiki dan dibiarkan begitu saja. Kegiatan pemberdayaan untuk masyarakat nelayan di Desa Angkue penting dilakukan, dimana pengetahuan, keterampilan dan kualitas nelayan sangat perlu ditingkatkan. Program Kemitraaan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan nelayan Desa Angkue dalam perbaikan perahu fiberglass melalui penyuluhan dan pelatihan perbaikan perahu fiberglass. Evaluasi peningkatan pengetahuan peserta dilakukan dengan pre test dan post test setelah dilakukan penyuluhan. Evaluasi ketrampilan peserta dilakukan pada saat pelatihan langsung. Hasil kegiatan PKM di Desa Angkue ini menunjukkan bahwa 83% peserta yang mengikuti penyuluhan telah memiliki pengetahuan yang baik tentang bahan fiberglass dan teknik perbaikan perahu fiberglass, dan 75% peserta pelatihan telah mampu melakukan perbaikan kerusakan perahu fiberglass secara benar.
