This analytical study in fossil pollen is not as complete as present methods and knowledge of pollen will permit. Pending a more extensive analysis, a few preliminary findings are here set forth, but, of course, subject to future modification

The Trees of Indiana in Their Local and General Distribution According According to Physiographic Divisions

    Get PDF
In light of the fact that no extensive work exists in plant geography showing the relation between Indiana trees and their physiographic distribution, the present problem was undertaken. It deals with the distribution of Indiana trees within the state by counties, but essentially by natural botanical areas; and outside of the state in their wider distribution by larger physiographic units

    The Merrillville White Pine

A quantitative survey was made in the white pine zone by the quadrant method (6). Twenty-five sample areas, each of three different sizes, were methodically arranged and equally spaced in accordance with Figure 1, so as to give a fair cross section of the flora. None of the quadrants touched the transition area next to the shrub zone where there were species intermingled characteristic of both areas

Quantifying the shadow economy: measurement with theory

    Get PDF
We construct a dynamic, general equilibrium model of tax evasion where agents choose to report some of their income. Unreported income requires using a payment method that avoids recordkeeping – cash. Trade using cash to avoid taxes is the theoretical measure of the shadow economy from our model. We then calibrate our model using money, interest rate and GDP data to back out the size of the shadow economy for a sample of 30 countries and compare our estimates to traditional ad hoc estimates. Our results generate reasonably larger estimates for the size of the shadow economy than exist in previous literature.>Informal sector (Economics) ; Taxation ; Credit

The MPI bioinformatics Toolkit as an integrative platform for advanced protein sequence and structure analysis.

    No full text
The MPI Bioinformatics Toolkit (http://toolkit.tuebingen.mpg.de) is an open, interactive web service for comprehensive and collaborative protein bioinformatic analysis. It offers a wide array of interconnected, state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools to experts and non-experts alike, developed both externally (e.g. BLAST+, HMMER3, MUSCLE) and internally (e.g. HHpred, HHblits, PCOILS). While a beta version of the Toolkit was released 10 years ago, the current production-level release has been available since 2008 and has serviced more than 1.6 million external user queries. The usage of the Toolkit has continued to increase linearly over the years, reaching more than 400 000 queries in 2015. In fact, through the breadth of its tools and their tight interconnection, the Toolkit has become an excellent platform for experimental scientists as well as a useful resource for teaching bioinformatic inquiry to students in the life sciences. In this article, we report on the evolution of the Toolkit over the last ten years, focusing on the expansion of the tool repertoire (e.g. CS-BLAST, HHblits) and on infrastructural work needed to remain operative in a changing web environment

Advanced manufacturing development of a composite empennage component for L-1011 aircraft

    Get PDF
This is the final report of technical work conducted during the fourth phase of a multiphase program having the objective of the design, development and flight evaluation of an advanced composite empennage component manufactured in a production environment at a cost competitive with those of its metal counterpart, and at a weight savings of at least 20 percent. The empennage component selected for this program is the vertical fin box of the L-1011 aircraft. The box structure extends from the fuselage production joint to the tip rib and includes front and rear spars. During Phase 4 of the program, production quality tooling was designed and manufactured to produce three sets of covers, ribs, spars, miscellaneous parts, and subassemblies to assemble three complete ACVF units. Recurring and nonrecurring cost data were compiled and documented in the updated producibility/design to cost plan. Nondestruct inspections, quality control tests, and quality acceptance tests were performed in accordance with the quality assurance plan and the structural integrity control plan. Records were maintained to provide traceability of material and parts throughout the manufacturing development phase. It was also determined that additional tooling would not be required to support the current and projected L-1011 production rate

ABSTRACTGovernment Accounting Standards are accounting principles applied in preparing and presenting government financial reports, both central and regional. Statement of Financial Statement Presentation aims to regulate the presentation of(general purpose financial statementsgeneral purpose financial statements) in order to increase the comparability of financial statements both against budgets, between periods, and between entities. To achieve these objectives, this standard establishes all considerations in the context of the presentation of financial statements, guidelines for the structure of financial statements, and minimum requirements for the content of financial statements. The analytical method used is a qualitative method where the data collected is then classified and analyzed so that conclusions can be drawn. The results showed that the presentation of financial statements at the Manado City Public Works and Spatial Planning Office for the 2017-2018 fiscal year was in accordance with Government Regulation no. 71 of 2010 concerning Government Accounting Standards. The Manado City Public Works and Spatial Planning Office has presented 4 financial reports, namely the Budget Realization Report, Balance Sheet, Operational Report, and Notes to Financial Statements. Keywords: financial reports, budget realization reports, balance sheets, operational reports, notes to financial statements, accounting standards

Cancer control in the first level: The role of rural nurses in low-income settings

    Get PDF
This article is aimed at providing insights into the experiences of rural nurses? and their perceptions in relation to disciplinary values, particularities of the cultural context, institutional constraints in such settings, and the effects of other health systems on the day-to-day healthcare practices carried out in low-resource health centres. This study is based on a framework of equity used to explain such differences in access to preventive and adequate care, which result in different rates of morbidityand mortality among regions. Many researchers provide evidence to support the idea that persistent lack of accessible, affordable, and culturally relevant programsfor cancer prevention and health promotion among medically underserved and historically marginalised populations are strongly associated with cancer disparities.Among underserved populations, rural communities are particular vulnerable in getting access to adequate cancer care. The daily work of nurses in rural settings canprovide clues to help understand what happens between the broader organisation of care system directives and the daily routines carried out in health centres.Fil: Luxardo, Natalia. A cadaveric model to evaluate the effect of unloading the medial quadriceps on patellar tracking and patellofemoral joint pressure and stability

    Get PDF
Background Vastus Medialis Muscles (VMM) damage has been widely identified following patellar dislocation. Rehabilitation programmes have been suggested to strengthen the VMM and reduce clinical symptoms of pain and instability. This controlled laboratory study investigated the hypothesis that reduced Vastus Medialis Obliquus (VMO) and Vastus Medialis Longus (VML) muscle tension would alter patellar tracking, stability and PFJ contact pressures. Methods Nine fresh-frozen dissected cadaveric knees were mounted in a rig with the quadriceps and iliotibial band loaded to 205 N. An optical tracking system measured joint kinematics and pressure sensitive film between the patella and trochlea measured PFJ contact pressures. Measurements were repeated for three conditions: 1. With all quadriceps heads and iliotibial band (ITB) loaded; 2. as 1, but with the VMO muscle unloaded and 3. as 1, but with the VMO and VML unloaded. Measurements were also repeated for the three conditions with a 10 N lateral displacement force applied to the patella. Results Reduction of VMM tension resulted in significant increases in lateral patellar tilt (2.8°) and translation (4 mm), with elevated lateral and reduced medial joint contact pressures from 0.48 to 0.14 MPa, and reduced patellar stability (all p < 0.05). Conclusions These findings provide basic scientific rationale to support the role of quadriceps strengthening to resist patellar lateral maltracking and rebalance the articular contact pressure away from the lateral facet in patients with normal patellofemoral joint anatomy
