    Evaluacija parametara zbijenosti tla od ključne je važnosti za ocjenu kontrole kakvoće u geotehničkom inženjerstvu. Jedna od mogućnosti za to jest primjena granice žilavosti koja se definira kao udio vode pri kojem se ponašanje sitnozrnatog tla mijenja od gotovo ljepljivoplastičnog do žilavoplastičnog. Rezultati provedenih više od 1000 ispitivanja, uključujući ispitivanja svojstva zbijenosti i Atterbergovih granica prikupljeni su u bazu podataka radi utvrđivanja korelacija između granice žilavosti, Atterbergovih granica optimalnog stupnja zasićenosti i svojstava zbijenosti. Rezultati pokazuju da granica žilavosti ima potencijal za procjenu mnogih indeksa i pokazatelja zbijenosti različitih vrsta tala.In geotechnical engineering, the precise evaluation of compaction parameters is essential for quality control assessment. One option is the use of the toughness limit (TL), concisely defined as the water content, at which the behaviour of fine-grained soils evolves from an almost adhesive-plastic to tough-plastic. A database consisting of more than 1000 test results, including the compaction characteristics and Atterberg limits, was compiled to establish correlations between the TL, Atterberg limits, optimum degree of saturation, and compaction properties. The results revealed that the TL has the potential to evaluate many indices and compaction identifiers for different types of soils

    In this study, a method based on transfer matrix method for the first and second orderstatical analysis of beams on elastic foundations is presented.     Relationship between retinal sensitivity and disease activity in patients with psoriasis vulgaris

    OBJECTIVES: Psoriasis is a hyperproliferative chronic inflammatory skin disease of unknown etiology and ocular structures and visual pathways can also be affected during the course of this disease. Subclinical optic neuritis has previously been observed in psoriatic patients in visual evoked potential studies. This trial was designed to evaluate retinal sensitivity in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. METHODS: A total of 40 eyes of 40 patients with chronic plaque-type psoriasis and 40 eyes of 40 age- and sex-matched control subjects were included in this study. The diagnosis of psoriasis was confirmed by skin biopsy. The severity was determined using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index and the duration of the disease was recorded. After a full ophthalmological examination, including tests for color vision and pupil reactions, the visual field of each subject was assessed using both standard achromatic perimetry and short wavelength automated perimetry. RESULTS: The mean Psoriasis Area and Severity Index was 22.05±6.40′. There were no significant differences in the visual field parameters of subjects versus controls using either method. There were correlations between disease severity and the mean deviations in standard achromatic perimetry and short wavelength automated perimetry and between disease severity and the corrected pattern standard deviation and pattern standard deviation of short wavelength automated perimetry (r = -0.363, r = -0.399, r = 0.515 and r = 0.369, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Retinal sensitivity appears to be affected by the severity of psoriasis vulgaris

    DEĞİŞİK UÇUCU KÜLLERİN YÜKSEK PLASTİSİTELİ KİLİN SERBEST BASINÇ DAYANIMINA ETKİSİ

    This paper presents an experimental investigation into the stabilization of a soft clayobtained from a military zone in Izmir with two different fly ashes. 5, 10, 15 and 20 % by weight of thesoil was replaced with fly ash. In addition to the neat soil sample, the optimum moisture contents andmaximum dry unit weights of four soil-fly ash mixtures prepared from each fly ash were determined byStandard Proctor Tests. The unconfined compressive strengths of the samples prepared at optimummoisture contents were determined at 1, 7, 28 and 90 days. It was found that, inclusion of fly ashimproved the properties of the soil. The improvements were more pronounced with increasing fly ashcontent of the mixture and lime content of the fly ash. The fact was attributed to the pozzolanic reactionand pore refinement effect of fly ash as well as its free lime content.Bu çalışmada, İzmir Çiğli Jet Üssünden temin edilen bir tip yumuşak kilin, iki farklı uçucu kül ilestabilizasyonu üzerine bir deneysel araştırma sunulmaktadır. Bu amaçla, kuru kil ağırlığının % 5, 10, 15ve 20’si oranlarında uçucu kül içeren farklı uçucu kül-kil karışımları hazırlanmıştır. Katkısız zemine ekolarak, kireç içeriği farklı iki uçucu külden yukarıda verilen oranlarda kül eklenerek hazırlanan dördernumunenin Standart Proktor deneyi ile optimum su muhtevaları ve maksimum kuru birim hacimağırlıkları belirlenmiştir. Optimum su muhtevasında sıkıştırılarak hazırlanan uçucu kül-zeminnumunelerinin, 1, 7, 28 ve 90 günlük serbest basınç dayanımları ölçülmüştür. Deneysel çalışma sonunda,eklenen uçucu külün zeminin serbest basınç mukavemetini artırdığı görülmüştür. Bu artışın uçucu kültipine bağlı olarak değişimler gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Artan kül içeriği ve külün kireç içeriğine bağlıolan bu artışlar, puzolanik reaksiyon, uçucu külün boşlukları doldurma etkisi ve uçucu külün serbestkireç içeriğinin etkisi ile açıklanabilir

    Duodenal Duplication Cyst with Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis: Report of a Case

    Introduction:Duplication cyst can be occurred in any level of GI tract but the duodenal cysts are extremely rare. Most of the duplication cysts are detected in children. Duodenum duplication cysts are difficult to diagnose, as the presenting symptoms are nonspecific and are closely related to the type, size and location of the lesion. Both CT imaging and MRI can adequately identify a duodenal duplication cyst.Presentation of the case: We report an adult with recurrent episodes of acute pancreatitis who was diagnosed with ERCP. With the diagnosis of duodenal duplication cyst, we planned to perform surgical resection of the cyst.Conclusions: The surgical intervention for duodenal duplication cyst includes complete or partial surgical resection of the cyst. The location of the cysts in relation to the duodenum, especially to the ampulla, is important to determine the treatment strategy. Alternatively, duodenum duplication can be safely and effectively treated by different endoscopic interventions

    Does fetal MR alter the management of pregnancy in the diagnosis of isolated corpus callosum agenesis?

    Objective To determine if fetal MR alters the management of pregnancy and family decisions in the isolated corpus callosum agenesis (CCA) cases or not. Methods Fetal MR was carried out in the cases diagnosed with CCA in the Perinatology Unit of our hospital between 2013 and 2019 after they were differentiated as complex and isolated CCA cases. The impact of MR results on the family decisions and their approaches towards termination were assessed. Results A total of 109 out 139 cases were evaluated as isolated CCA. While 93 (85.32%) of them were diagnosed with the complete CCA, 16 (14.68%) cases were diagnosed with the partial CCA. When the period after 2017 during which fetal MR was recommended to all patients was reviewed, it was seen that 7 (23.3%) of 30 cases who underwent fetal MR and 2 (20%) of 10 cases who did not undergo fetal MR terminated their pregnancies. There was no statistical difference between two groups in terms of the decisions of the patients for gestational termination who did and did not undergo fetal MR. Conclusion Fetal MR imaging in the isolated CCA does not change the decisions of the families for the gestational termination. In terms of the termination decision, week of gestation and socio-cultural factors may have more impacts

    Meckel-gruber syndrome, a rare fetal anomaly: a case report

    Otozomal resesif geçisli bir hastalık olan Meckel-Gruber Sendromu (MGS), multipl konjenital anomali içeren nadir bir hastalıktır ve letal seyreden bir sendromdur. MGS'nin klasik triadı; bilateral kistik renal displazi, oksipital ensefalosel ve postaksiyal polidaktilidir. Bunlardan üçünden en az ikisinin olması tanıyı koydurur. Bu yazıda intrauterinMGSsaptanan bir olgu sunulmasını amaçladık. Son adet tarihine göre 23 hafta 5 günlük gebelik + multipl fetal anomali nedeni ile gebe poliklinigimize refere edilen olgu obstetrik ultrasonografi ile degerlendirildi. Yasayan 2 saglıklı çocugu olan 26 yasındaki olgunun hikayesinden, daha önce 32. gebelik haftasında ölü dogum öyküsü oldugu, nedeninin bilinmedigi ama polidaktilisi bulundugu ögrenildi. Olgunun yapılan ultrasonunda fetal bilateral multikistik displastik böbrek, her iki elde polidaktili, bilateral ventrikülomegali ve anhidroamniyos saptandı. MGS düsünülen ve anhidramniyosu olan gebeye konsey kararı sonucu ve ailenin istegi ile tıbbi tahliye uygulandı. 750 gram agırlıgında bir erkek bebek ölü olarak dogurtuldu. Genetik incelemesi yapılan fetusun kromozom analizi normal (46, XY) olarak geldi. Otopsi sonucunda bilateral polikistik böbrek, her iki el ve ayaklarda polidaktili ve micrognati mevcuttu. Prenatal bilateral genislemis multikistik böbrek tanısı MGS'yi akla getirmelidir ve santral sinir sistemi malformasyonları ve polidaktili arastırması yapılmalıdır. Bununla birlikte fetal otopsinin tanının dogrulanmasında önemlidir.Meckel-Gruber Syndrome (MGS), an autosomal recessive disease, is a rare and lethal syndrome with congenital polymalformations Classical triad of MGS is bilateral cystic renal dysplasia, occipital encephalocele and postaxial polydactyly. For diagnosis, two out of these three findings required to be present. In this article, we aimed to present a case with intrauterineMGS. Patient with 23 weeks and five days pregnancy (according to her last menstrual period) with multiple anomalies was evaluated by obstetric ultrasonography. The obstetric history of the 26-year-old patient revealed that she had 2 healthy living children and one previous intrauterine ex fetus with polydactyly and an unknown cause at 32 weeks of gestation. Ultrasonographic examination of the case showed fetal bilateral multicystic dysplastic kidney, polydactyly in hands, bilateral ventriculomegaly and anhidroamnios. The case was diagnosed as MGS and underwent medical termination of pregnancy with the consent of family and the council of doctors. An ex male infant weighing 750 grams was delivered. Genetic analysis showed normal chromosome analysis (46, XY). Bilateral polycystic kidneys, and polydactyly of both hands and feet, and microgynathy were found in autopsy. Investigation of central nervous system malformations and polydactyly should be conducted in patients with prenatal detection of bilateral enlarged multicystic kidneys, when MGS is considered as a possible diagnosis. Furthermore verification of the diagnosis with fetal autopsy is important
