Amphora Painted by Lydos in Empuries and the Beginning of the Emporion Settlement on Land

Fragmento de un ánfora ática procedente de Ampurias con una “penguin-woman” cuyo estilo corresponde al Pintor Lydos. Se analizan sus paralelos y su relación con el comercio focense, así como con las primeras cerámicas áticas halladas en la Neápolis de Ampurias, que permiten fechar el asentamiento en tierra firme c. 570-560 a.C., apenas un decenio posterior al de la Palaia Polis, c. 575 a.C.Fragment of an Attic vase, probably an amphora, found in Emporion (Empuries, Gerona). It shows a “penguin-woman” that can be attributed to the painter Lydos. We analyse its parallels and its relation with the Phocaean trade. It is one of the earliest Attic vases discovered in the Neapolis of Empuries, dated c. 570-560 BC, about ten years after the foundation of the earliest Phocaean settlement in the Palaia Polis of Emporion, c. 580-570 BC
