    Analysis of the Challenges and Technical Solutions for Revitalization of Traditional Buildings in Hot and Humid Climate (Case Study: Anthropology Museum of Local Residents in Kish Island)

    In every nation ancient buildings are rich sources for inspiration from local traditional architecture. Manu of such buildings still have potentials for conservation and renovation. This article reviews the issue of revitalization of old traditional buildings in south part of Iran with hot and humid climate. The key technical challenges of revitalization and renovation of such buildings were explored via literature review. Then, the technical solution for such challenges were identified via cases study analysis. In order to reach comprehensive and practical solutions, tree key field of built environment studies which are architecture, structure and infrastructure design were explored together. The case study for this research was the project of revitalization of a traditional building into “Anthropology Museum of Local Residents” in Kish Island. The analysis and case study showed that most of the technical challenges for revitalization of such buildings are resolvable via simple solutions. Based on this, economic and socio-cultural supports of local authorities and planning departments are necessary in order to make such revitalization projects more feasible

    Sourceology of Ctesias' Persica: in search of Iranian sources

    The issue of Iranian sources used by Ctesias has always been disputed in the last two centuries. These sources can be study divided into two groups: written and narrative. The question of the possible use of Iranian sources by Ctesias has been analyzed in this paper from four points of view. First, we examined the Iranian sources of Ctesias. Then, the significance of the role of Balkh, Balkhians and Scythians in Ctesias's narrative was discussed. In the third step, we discussed the importance and role of the land of Media. In the fourth step, the three names of Oxyartes, Spitāmas and Damaspia was selected and studied from the personal names with Zoroastrian roots, that reached us through the traditions, handed down from Ctesias - such as Photius and Diodorus. In addition, historical documents were searched for witnesses or historical evidence for these personal names.These names are confirmed by many classical texts, Zoroastrian religious tradition and official documents of the Achaemenid administration. It is also mentioned the relationship between these personal names and the mentioned lands, namely Balkh and Media. Finally, the result of the present research show the existence of Iranian written and narrative sources used by Ctesias and prove that Ctesias was probably right in his claim that he used official documents and relied on oral sources

    Homogeneous microwave near-field power focusing using a cylindrical antenna array

    Abstract This paper presents an investigation of a microwave near-field power focusing (NFPF) analytical approach utilizing a cylindrical array of electric line sources along the z-axis, applicable to any arbitrary homogeneous linear medium. A novel parameter, termed the “focus ability” (FA), is introduced to quantitatively assess a method's capabilities in achieving power focusing. In the following, the phases and amplitudes of the excitation signals of the array elements are obtained with optimization to maximize FA over a certain studied area. Each stage of the theoretical analysis is supported through COMSOL full-wave simulations, ensuring the validity of the results. Theoretical results relevant to focused power are then compared to outcomes obtained from CST full-wave simulations with the same array configuration while employing half-wave dipole antenna elements with excitations obtained via optimization. These comparisons indicate that the excitation signals obtained by theoretical analysis can be used for power focusing when the array of half-wave dipole antenna sources is utilized. Furthermore, the proposed method leads to a significant reduction in the optimization time.
