    Growth of Gynura procumbens and oreochromis spp. by using cocopeat media in aquaponics system

    Lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) and gravel are common growing media that are used to support plants in hydroponic system. However, LECA is quite expensive and gravel causes the presence of algae. Therefore, alternative media from local source are required. The study evaluates the growth rate of Gynura procumbens plants by using four different growing media (LECA, cocopeat, rice husk and mixture of cocopeat with rice husk) in an aquaponic system. The media were analysed based on the physical and chemical properties before being used as growing media in the aquaponics system for water quality, nutrients level and growth of Gynura procumbens plants and Hybrid red Nile Tilapia fish. Results attained signified the suitability of utilizing rice husk and cocopeat as alternative media compared to commercial media such as LECA because there was a significant difference (P< 0.05) between all analytical tests. Commercial media such as LECA did not require water treatment unit but the usage of cocopeat is not guaranteed by its effectiveness in treated water in the aquaponics system. Therefore, extra filtration system (single or combined) filter was required and the study of four different water treatment units (mechanical, biological, combination and media) by using cocopeat as media in the aquaponics system. The water treatment unit was being compared based on water quality, nutrients level and growth of plants and fish. All the aquaponics systems were operated for twelve weeks and the values of pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen level measured to be within the range of 6.4-6.9 (± 0.07), 27.7-29.0°C, and 5.5-7.0mg/L (± 0.09), respectively. Satisfactory reduction (50-70%) was achieved for total suspended solids (TSS) and the nitrogen compounds within the systems. The results revealed that cocopeat was insufficient to act as a water treatment unit in the aquaponics system studied. The aquaponics system required at least a biological or mechanical filter for effectiveness in treating water of the system

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian populasi karena seluruh populasi dijadikan sampel penelitian. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah skala pemberdayaan psikologis. Analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Uji-T sampel independen. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan nilai signifikasi sebesar 0,04 (p&lt;0,05) yang berarti terdapat perbedaan pemberdayaan psikologis ditinjau dari jenis kelamin pada relawan.     Biocomposites based on oil palm tree as packaging materials

    Every parts of the oil palm tree can be utilized to form useful products, including the waste from palm oil processing either intermediates or final biomasses. Utilization oil palm wastes and palm oil product will be presented for the application in the packaging industry, especially as environmental friendly packaging materials. For the development of these new biodegradable packaging materials, product and waste from oil palm tree are compounded to form biocomposites. Empty fruit bunch, waste that is derived after palm oil extraction process, is grinded and compounded with polyethylene to form biocomposites for blow film process. Palm cooking oil (PCO) is used as processing aids/lubricant in the blown film processing of low density polyethylene with empty fruit bunch fiber (LDPE/EFB) to form biofilm. This oil ease the process ability of LDPE/EFB on the conventional blown film thermoplastic machinery. The higher the composition of the PCO the better will be the processability of LDPE/FFB as the resistance to flow is decreased. With PCO composition greater than 2% the processing parameters of LDPE can be used to process LDPE/PCO/EFB into film. Tensile properties of the biocomposite film are found to be dependent on the PCO composition and comparable to the polyethylene film at low PCO composition. As the composition of PCO in LDPE/EFB is increased the tensile strength and elongation at break of the biofilm is decreased

    On the computations of some homological functors of 2-Engel groups of order at most 16

    The homological functors including J (G) , ∇ (G) , exterior square, the Schur multiplier, Δ (G) , the symmetric square and J (G) of a group were originated in homotopy theory. The nonabelian tensor square which is a special case of the nonabelian tensor product is vital in the computations of the homological functors of a group. It was introduced by Brown and Loday in 1987. The nonabelian tensor square G⊗G of a group G is generated by the symbols g ⊗ h, for all g,h∈G subject to the relations gg′⊗h=(gg′⊗gh)(g⊗h) and g⊗hh′=(g⊗h)(hg⊗hh′), for all g,g′,h,h′ ∈G where g g′ = gg′g−1 . In this paper, the computations of nonabelian tensor squares and some homological functors of all 2-Engel groups of order at most 16 are done. Mas Mansur has a superior program, namely the tahfidz zone program, which of these programs is to facilitate students to memorize the Koran more and maintain the memorization. This study used the field research method or what is known as field research, in which the author went directly to student boarding schools, while also using observation, interviews with the sources concerned and documentation. The results of the tahfidz zone program research are: students have memorized more than juz 30, students have closer time with the Koran, students can murojaah or ziyadah wherever they are, practice the knowledge of the Koran that they have learned

    A Simulation Study of Drying Chamber for Marine Product

    Drying chamber is a drying application for agriculture product to produce high quality and hygiene product. The purpose of this paper is to propose best configuration trays arrangement in drying chamber for better distribution of velocity and temperature. Therefore, five configurations of trays are analyzed to obtain the best performance of uniformity air flow distribution within drying chamber. CFD simulation studied the uniform air flow in the drying chamber in steady state condition. A validation is performed by comparing the data obtained from the literature review CFD simulation to ensure the methodology is correct. Then, the drying chamber with different trays arrangements are simulated using CFD simulations to obtain velocity and temperature distributions at nine plotted points on trays. From the results obtained, it concluded that design (A) and (D) are selected as the best designs for uniformity because there is less discrepancy for each point contributed the more uniformity of distribution

    Strength and physical properties of sustainable concrete masonry at elevated temperature: a review

    This paper is an overview of the performance of sustainable concrete masonry containing industrial waste as cement replacement which exposed to high temperature. These industrial waste or also known as pozzolanic materials have been widely used due to their characteristic which could act as the binder in concrete. By replacing cement content in concrete this could make concrete more sustainable due to less carbon content. Based on previous researches, the performance of these sustainable concrete have been investigated in terms of its residual compressive strength and physical properties at elevated temperature. These parameters are important factor that could contribute to the structural stability and valuation of serviceability state of structure. Large numbers of research on pozzolanic concrete at elevated temperature have been conducted. Among pozzolanic materials used were fly ash, palm oil fuel ash, volcanic ash, silica fume, blast slag furnace and etc. As general according to previous research, pozzolanic concrete have better performance than OPC concrete at temperature less than 500°C. In terms of physical properties, surface cracks and discolouration of concrete has been observed. Studies show that, surface cracks on pozzolanic concrete were less than OPC concrete. Meanwhile, for discolouration impact, it was observed that, both OPC and pozzolanic concrete have similar changes in colour where the colour of concrete became lighter as the firing temperature increased. From this review it can be conclude that these industrial wastes are good in enhancing the sustainable environment as well as improving the fire resistance performance of concrete masonry

    Half pins stress shielding interaction behavior at implant-bone interface

    External fixator (EF) is assembled by pin, ring, rods and locking devices. Pin implantation is used to provide stability for bone healing and osseointegration. Clinical failure of screw implant is reported to occur at the end of screw thread due to screw loosening and screw tightening. It is hypothesized that the same failure mechanism is occurred for pins. This paper presents the finite element (FE) analysis of EF implantation of different half pins on diaphysis of femur bone. Tapered conical half-pin and trocar-tip tapered half- pin were analysed using four types of materials (titanium alloy, stainless steel, magnesium alloy and carbon fiber) to determine the von-Mises stress and stress shielding. It is found that the pins were yielded at the thread of pin near to hard-soft tissue interface, which is agreed with the clinical screw implant fracture. However, magnesium alloy has the lower von- Mises and greater stress shielding (STP) transfer. Thus, trocar-tip tapered magnesium alloy half pin is predicted to be the best material for better stability of bone fixation
