    The effectiveness of problem – based learning methods in improving high-order thinking skills

    Problem based Learning (PBL) methods is a teaching approach based on real life problems, which involves the utilization of various skills in solving the issue. The purpose of this quasi – experimental research is to study the effectiveness of PBL technique in increasing students’ high order thinking skill. The research took a period of eight weeks to be completed. The instruments used in this research are pre-post test questions and survey. The research involved 71 respondents from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Ismail who were divided into two groups, which are the treatment and controlled groups. All of the respondents were a group of students undertaking the form four Science subject. The acquired data was analysed descriptively and inferentially using the Statistical packages for Social Science Version 21.0 (SPSS) software. The findings of this research have proven that PBL method is successful in increasing students’ high order thinking skill. A similar finding was also obtained regarding students’ perceptions in using PBL to help in their achievements, showing a high mean score of 4.00. In conclusion, the use of PBL shows positive response from students and the findings illustrate that different, interesting and effective teaching and learning methods are more capable of increasing students’ high order thinking skill compared to traditional methods

    Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengenalpasti Tahap kesediaan Guru Pelatih Rekabentuk dan Teknologi di Negeri Johor. Tahap kesediaan yang dikaji ialah pengetahuan, kemahiran, dan sikap, hubungan interpersonal dan beban tugas. Kajian berbentuk tinjauan deskriptif yang melibatkan data kuantitatif menggunakan borang soal selidik sebagai instrument kajian. Sampel terdiri daripada guru pelatih Rekabentuk dan Teknologi di mana responden adalah seramai 120 orang yang diambil dari keseluruhan populasi Data yang dikumpul daripada responden telah dianalisis melalui perisian SPSS Versi 21.0. Data yang diperolehi daripada soal selidik menggunakan statistik deskriptif iaitu pengiraan min, peratusan , sisihan piawai dan Ujian-t . Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap pengetahuan, kemahiran guru pelatih reka bentuk dan teknologi adalah tinggi dalam mata pelajaran reka cipta. Dapatan kajian juga mendapati sikap guru pelath adalah rendah dalam mata pelajaran reka cipta. Selain itu, dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan, sikap dan kemahiran berdasarkan umur dan latar belakang pendidkan. Bagaimanapun, dapatan kajian menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan, sikap dan kemahiran berdasarkan jantina bagi tahap kesediaan guru pelatih dalam mata pelajaran reka cipta. Hasil daripada kajian yang telah dibincangkan, didapati bahawa kursus yang dipelajari terbukti mempunyai kepentingan dalam mempengaruhi kesediaan mengajar. Kursus-kursus ini banyak memberikan input yang berguna yang dapat diaplikasi oleh pelajar sewaktu mengajar. Guru pelatih disarankan meningkatkan pengetahuan mereka agar dapat menyampaikan pengajaran secara berkesan dalam era globalisasi masa kini. Selain itu, guru pelatih juga seharusnya menyertai kursus-kursus yang berterusan dalam perkhidmatan berkaitan teknologi terkini, motivasi dan juga pedagogi. Kursus-kursus sebegini dapat menjadikan guru mempunyai pengetahuan dan kemahiran selari dengan perkembangan semasa dalam dunia pendidika

    Postoperative analgesic effects of preoperative intravenous apotel and remifentanil in septorhinoplasty: a randomized, doubleblind clinical trial

    OBJECTIVE: To compare the postoperative induced hypotension anesthesia, complications and analgesic effects of intravenous Apotel and Remifentanil in adult patients undergoing Septorhinoplasty.METHODS: A randomized clinical trial was performed in Ordibehesht hospital during a 1-year period. We included 60 patients with ASA I and II status scheduled for Septorhinoplasty who were randomly assigned to receive Remifentanil (n=30) or intravenous Apotel (n=30) before induction of the anesthesia. The anesthesia and surgery protocol was similar between the two study groups. The intraoperative blood pressure, postoperative pain based on VAS scale, postoperative nausea and vomiting, shivering and agitation were recorded and further compared between the two study groups. The amount of rescue analgesic was also compared.RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the two study groups regarding the baseline characteristics. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure was not significantly different between the two study groups in any of the anesthesia induction. We found that the incidence of postoperative shivering (p=0.011) and pain (p=0.041) was significantly lower in those who received Apotel. The VAS score was also significantly lower in the Apotel in comparison to Remifentanil group at 1 (p=0.035), 2 (p=0.026) and 4 (p=0.028) hours after the operation. The need for rescue analgesic was also significantly lower in the Apotel when compared to Remifentanil group (p=0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Intravenous Apotel is a safe and effective agent as premedication in those undergoing Septorhinoplasty. It is associated with hemodynamic stability during the operation and decreased postoperative pain and shivering when compared to Remifentanil. Thus it could be recommended for this purpose

    Development of 3D animated video application for computer evolution

    This project is aimed to design and develop a 3D animated video application for computer evolution. The development of a 3D animated video application of computer evolution aims to help educators present the topic of computer evolution to students in a simple and more creative method. At the same time, this application can also increase students' interest and understanding of the topic of computer evolution. A literature review was conducted to further assist in designing products that are suitable for the latest generation. The ADDIE model was used in the development of this product. The ADDIE model has five phases, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In the analysis phase, the developer makes an analysis of the problems that occur and an analysis of the software and hardware requirements. For the design phase, the developer creates a storyboard that is used as a reference during product development. In the development and implementation phase, the developer develops a product based on a pre-designed storyboard. Products are developed using selected hardware and software. The evaluation and testing process was performed by five experts in the field of creative multimedia from the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education. Three experts played a role in the evaluation of the product interface design. Meanwhile, two more experts are in the role and content design evaluation of the developed products. The instrument used was an expert checklist form. The collected data were analyzed using frequency and percentage methods.     The purpose of this research is to study the perception of Special Education in Learning Problems students towards the subject Component Cuisine. The study has been conducted in SekolahMenengahTengkuPanglimaPerangTengku Muhammad Kuantan Pahang. In order to achieve all the objectives, questionnaire has been distributed to the 30 respondents. All the data that obtained from the questionnaire has been analyzed into frequency, percentage and mean score by using Winstep 3.69.11. The first objective of this research used the crosstab data analysis shows the mean score 4.846 which indicate the high level and prove that the respondents interested in learning the Life Skills. While in the aspects of respondent’s understanding towards the subject that teach by their teacher also shows a high level with the mean score 4.366 and indirectly achieve the second objective. From the study on the third objective, it shows a mean score 4.28 which indicate the high level of respondents application in practicing the subject skills into their life. The conclution of respondents have applied the practical skills in the subject at home and it is suggesting those Special Education teachers who teach the Life Skills subject to be more attentive towards their students

    Educational inequalities in self-reported health in a general Iranian population

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between educational level and self-reported health in an Iranian population, in order to provide evidence on social inequalities in health from a country in which such data need to be collected.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>This population-based study was carried out in Tehran, Iran. Individuals aged 15 years and over were interviewed. Self-reported health was measured by asking each individual to respond to the question: "In general how would you describe your health at present?" We used years of formal education as a measure of socioeconomic status and categorized the answers in five levels. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals indicating the contribution of educational level to self-reported health, adjusting for age, gender, marital status, and chronic diseases.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In all, 4163 individuals were interviewed. The mean age of the respondents was 35.1 years (SD = 16.0); 52% were female; the mean duration of formal education was 10.0 years (SD = 4.5); and 31% rated their health 'less than good'. Overall, women rated their health more poorly than men (P < 0.0001), and the findings showed that those with higher education rated their health significantly better than those with lower educational levels after adjusting for the age, gender, marital status and chronic diseases. The odds ratio for having 'less than good' self-rated health in those at the lowest educational level compared with those at the highest was 2.65 (95% CI = 1.88–3.73).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The findings indicated an inverse relationship between educational level and self-rated health, and that age, gender, and chronic conditions had independent effects on self-reported health status. The findings of this first study from Iran suggest that health inequalities in developing countries such as Iran need to be addressed and policies for tackling the problem should be considered. In this respect, less well-educated people and women should be seen as the first target populations. It seems that although expanding the educational system might help the state to provide people with more educational options, it is also necessary to ensure that equal opportunities and access to quality education are provided for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds; otherwise the current situation might cost the government more in the long term because of poor health among disadvantaged groups.</p

    PERSEPSI PELAJAR DALAM KEMAHIRAN PSIKOMOTOR PEMASANGAN KIT MODEL KERETA MENGGUNAKAN CD INTERKATIF

    The Learning of living skills in schools becoming more challenging nowadays. It triggers competition as the world approaching globalism in this 21st century. The modernisation of technology helps in overcoming the gap of difficulties and challenging that humans have to face. This study was conducted in order to determine the students' perception psychomotor skills installation kit car model with the usage of interactive CD. The sample of this study consists of 92 respondent of gender dissimilarity from different schools around Mersing. The questionare of 32 items is used as an instrument in this study. The pilot study was conducted at Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu Mersing with the number of 30 respondents. The mean value of the result based on the item of interest is 4.60 and mean value of the attitude is 4.67 using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (Version 22.0) the perform data analysis. The analysis of data includes the mean score percentage and correlation. This study found the usage of an interactive CD in psychomotor skills model car kit installation is on the higher level. This result shows that the utilization of interactive CD is highly recommended to be implemented in schools since it is attractive useful and helpful in shaping the behaviour and attitude of the students in achieving a topic

    Maintaining health and sustainability of urban metabolism ecosystem in line with sustainable development: a case study of Qarchak, Iran

    Background: The present study aimed to evaluate the urban metabolism in line with sustainable development of Qarchak city, Iran. Methods: The present study was applied in terms of type and descriptive-analytical in terms of method. The statistical population of the study included Qarchak city as one of the cities of Tehran province with a population of 231075 people based on 2016 census. It is located in the northwest of Varamin city. Information was collected through library studies, documents and databases were checked. After identifying the criteria, they were converted into quantitative indices and the indices were weighted and prioritized within the framework of AHP weight model. Data analysis was done with the Metabolic Outcomes Assessment (MIA) method. Results: The final score of the study area was 29.61, while the optimal status is 60.64. Therefore, the current status of the area compared to the optimal status, gained about 45% of the scores. It indicates that the metabolic status of the study area is poor. Also, according to experts, water criterion with a weight of 0.388 has the highest rank and air criterion with a weight of 0.075 has the lowest rank and importance. Also, the incompatibility coefficient is 0.09, which is acceptable. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, understanding the deep relationship between the city and the environment to solve urban and environmental problems, optimization of systems and multiple natural and human processes is essential that should be considered by public people and urban planners

    An integrated home energy management system by the load aggregator in a microgrid using the internet of things infrastructure

    Smart technologies enable the significant participation of consumers in demand-side management programs. In this paper, the management of electrical energy consumption for a set of residential houses in a microgrid by a load aggregator for a 24-h planning horizon is studied. In this study, consumption management programs are implemented on controllable equipment by sending binary codes by the load aggregator via the internet of things (IoT) infrastructure to residential sockets. To increase the level of customer convenience and provide more flexibility for consumers to participate in demand response programs, a parameter called the value of lost load (VOLL) has been introduced. According to the results, in addition to no need to use the energy management system for each residential house, only by moving shiftable loads to off-peak hours, 18.34% of energy consumption costs are saved daily. Also, from the load aggregator’s viewpoint for every 10% change in status from normal to the scheduled priority, there is a reduction of about 3.4% in the consumer’s peak-load cost. If solar arrays and storage resources are used, more than 18% of the total consumption cost can be saved
