Preliminary studies on local and imported beef, minced beef, chicken pieces, minced chicken meat and internal organs of poultry from wet market sand supermarkets were carried out and analysed for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.L. monocytogenes was isolated by direct plating on Palcam agar and with selective and cold enrichment at 37" and 4°Cin L-Palcamy enrichment broth. Whole chickens and the equipment used for processing of poultry were also swabbed and examined for the presence of the organism. L. monocytogenes was detected in 6/16imported and 3/6 local beef samples. Out of 16 poultry samples which were obtained from four different wet markets, six contained L. monocytogenes. Beef samples obtained from supermarkets were negative for L. monocytogenes but the organism was detected in three of four imported minced beef, and two of four local minced beef samplesL. monocytogenes was also detected in three of thefour chicken samples; two off ourminced samples and one off our organs which were obtained from supermarkets. Chicken carcasses from wet market A were negative for L. monocytogenes but this was not true for chicken carcasses from wet market B because 15 out of24 were positive for L. monocytogenes. No. L. monocytogenes was detected from the equipment in wet market A, but equipment in wet market B was positive for the organism. These results suggest that retailing meats which have been processed for many hours favour growth of L. monocytogenes and also enhance cross-contamination

This case describes the dilemma of Citra (M) Sdn Bhd in making product decisions. This dilemma arises as a result of the need to respond to an urgent order of the 14” colour picture tubes from its headquarters in Korea. These tubes were intended to solve the inadequate production problem of Citra (China) whose production had been disrupted by an explosion. On one hand, satisfying this request might disrupt Citra (M) Sdn Bhd’s production plan due to capacity constraints. On the other hand, accepting this order represents an opportunity to tap the vast market in China. Thus, in spite of the capacity constraints and the possible disruption to its production plan, the General Manager of Citra (M) Sdn Bhd asked himself, “How could I possibly reject this order from China?”

Image Segmentation of Meliponine Bee using Faster R-CNN

    No full text
There has been an increasing interest by local Malaysian towards beekeeping of Meliponine, which is a tribe of stingless bee. When it comes to advice on beekeeping, these locals (mostly novice) depends on inputs from only a handful of key experts (mostly aging). This paper presents part of a project that aims to develop a visual-based expert system, which may help in beekeeping tasks. One of the first processes in such system is image segmentation. Being small in size, the segmentation of a Meliponine in its natural surrounding is difficult to be accurately detected, more so identified. Of recent, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has been making tremendous progress in object detection due to its high accuracy and fast execution. In this paper, the Faster R-CNN, an object detection method, which uses the CNN core module is implemented for segmentation of Meliponine image from its background. We present results of this implementation on our data set of 400 image frames from videos collected in a local Meliponine farm in Malaysia. The accuracy result at around 74% looks promising for further exploration
