The title compound, (C6H16N)[Fe3(CH3CO2)8O(H2O)]·C7H8, was serendipitously crystallized from a reaction of disilanol with iron(II) acetate. The trinuclear acetatoferrate(III) anion has a triethylammonium cation as the counterion. The three Fe atoms lie on the vertices of a regular triangle and are octahedrally coordinated. The complete coordination of the anion includes shared ligands among the three metal ions: a central tribridging O atom and six bidentate bridging acetyl groups. The six-coordinations of two of the metal ions are completed by a monodentate acetate ligand, whereas that of the third metal ion is completed by a water molecule. The uncoordinated triethylammonium cation is involved in N—H⋯O hydrogen bonding to a singly coordinated acetyl group. The coordinated aqua molecule is involved in bifurcated O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding. C—H⋯O interactions are also observed. The toluene solvent molecule is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.609 (11):0.391 (11) ratio

Retrospective cohort study: Clinical presentation and outcomes of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya

Pre-eclampsia has two distinct subtypes: early onset pre-eclampsia, which occurs before 34 weeks of gestation, and late onset pre-eclampsia, which occurs after 34 weeks. Few studies examine and compare early and late onset pre-eclampsia in a low- and middle-income country setting. This study’s goal was to establish a profile of patients with hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, especially pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, over a two-year period. At Kenya’s national referral hospital, clinical presentation at admission was examined, as was management of complications, along with maternal and newborn health outcomes in the hospital’s maternity unit, to ascertain any differences in health outcomes for early and late onset pre-eclampsia. This report details the study’s findings, showing that out of the 620 records reviewed, 44 percent of pre-eclamptic and eclamptic women exhibited early onset of pre-eclampsia, while 56 percent had late onset. Early onset of pre-eclampsia was associated with greater disease severity as well as adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. Early detection, continuous monitoring, identification of risk factors, and prompt referral are critical in mitigating the serious consequences of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia

    Di-μ-thiocyanato-bis[bis(tri-p-tolylphosphine)silver(I)] 0.35-hydrate

In the binuclear centrosymmetric title compound, [Ag2(NCS)2(C21H21P)4]·0.35H2O, a pseudo-polymorph of [Ag2(NCS)2(C21H21P)4]·2CH3CN, the Ag atom is coordinated by two phosphine ligands and two bridging thiocyanate ligands in a distorted tetrahedral configuration. The crystal structure exhibits intermolecular C—H⋯π interactions

    The title rhodium Vaska-type complex, trans-[RhCl{P(C6H11)2(C6H4-4-C3H7)2}2(CO)], crystallizes with an accompanying acetone solvent molecule. The metal atom shows a distorted square-planar coordination environment with selected important geometrical parameters of Rh—P = 2.3237 (6) and 2.3253 (6) Å, Rh—Cl = 2.3724 (6) Å, Rh—C = 1.802 (2) Å, P—Rh—P = 173.42 (2)° and Cl—Rh—C = 179.13 (7)°. Effective cone angles for the two P atoms are 165 and 161°, respectively. Both isopropyl groups and the acetone molecule are disordered with occupancy values of 0.523 (5):0.477 (5), 0.554 (8):0.446 (8) and 0.735 (4):0.265 (4), respectively. The crystal packing is stabilized by weak C—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl contacts

The title compound, [Ag(C18H27P)2]NO3, is a mononuclear salt species in which the Ag atom is coordinated by two phosphine ligands, forming a cation, with the nitrate as the counter-anion, weakly interacting with the Ag atom, resulting in Ag⋯O distances of 2.602 (6) and 2.679 (6) Å. The cationic silver–phosphine complex has a non-linear geometry in which the P—Ag—P angle is 154.662 (19)°. The Ag—P bond lengths are 2.4303 (6) and 2.4046 (5) Å

Towards a unified approach for multiple myeloma care in Kenya - proceedings of the Inaugural Multiple Myeloma Congress

The rising burden of multiple myeloma in Kenya has not been met by a commensurate effort for control. Patients and practitioners struggle with unavailability and unaffordability of diagnostics, drugs and stem cell transplant leading to presentation at advanced stages and under-treatment with increased morbidities and mortality. A concerted effort among stakeholders is urgently needed to develop strategies for myeloma control. The scarcity of providers also carries grave consequences for Kenyan patients. The Academic Model Providing Access To Healthcare (AMPATH) multiple myeloma program organized the Inaugural Virtual Multiple Myeloma Congress to achieve both interactive specialist instruction and stakeholder engagement. Expert presenters and panellists from diverse disciplines were invited to offer in-depth presentations on myeloma care and case studies from panellists´ practice were used to contextualize learning points and form a basis for generating debate on the challenges facing providers and opportunities for care improvement. An audience of health professionals offering care to myeloma patients was invited. The underlying principle of recommendations developed during the congress was collaboration among in-country and international practitioners, researchers and policy experts from private and public sector. This partnership of stakeholders bears the potential of pooling scarce resources and for collective advocacy towards better patient care

Resource guide on climate change science

AfricaAdapt is is an independent bilingual network (French/English) focused exclusively on Africa. The Network’s aim is to facilitate the flow of climate change adaptation knowledge for sustainable livelihoods between researchers, policy makers, civil society organizations and communities who are vulnerable to climate variability and change across the continent. In many cases, the abundance of resources has led to confusion and misinformation surrounding climate change issues. This resource guide provides selected resource materials and links that specifically target non-climate experts
