Archives on the web and users expectations: towards a convergence with digital libraries

    Get PDF
The building digital environments aimed at offering services and information around archives should reach the goal of putting together archival standards and schemes with the typical features of digital libraries. Today the increasing landing of archives on the Web is forcing a comparison with the model of digital library, highlighting some issues: how could a web archival environment may face users expectations, what content (and how) may be offered to aggregators (portals and web agents), how may we ensure its quality? The paper deals with all these issues, based on the authors experiences and mostly on the recent user study testing activities launched for the prototype of Una Città per gli Archivi, a portal disseminating the results of a several years project of research and valorization of documentary funds of the city of Bologna (Italy), including photographic and graphic materials, sound and audiovisual recordings, in addition to paper archives

Renal Involvement in Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children: Not Only Acute Kidney Injury

    Get PDF
Kidney involvement has been poorly investigated in SARS-CoV-2 Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). To analyze the spectrum of renal involvement in MIS-C, we performed a single-center retrospective observational study including all MIS-C patients diagnosed at our Pediatric Department between April 2020 and May 2022. Demographic, clinical, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission’s need and laboratory data were collected at onset and after 6 months. Among 55 MIS-C patients enrolled in the study, kidney involvement was present in 20 (36.4%): 13 with acute kidney injury (AKI) and 7 with isolated tubular dysfunction (TD). In eight patients, concomitant AKI and TD was present (AKI-TD). AKI patients needed higher levels of intensive care (PICU: 61.5%, p < 0.001; inotropes: 46.2%, p = 0.002; second-line immuno-therapy: 53.8%, p < 0.001) and showed lower levels of HCO3- (p = 0.012), higher inflammatory markers [neutrophils (p = 0.092), PCT (p = 0.04), IL-6 (p = 0.007)] as compared to no-AKI. TD markers showed that isolated TD presented higher levels of HCO3- and lower inflammatory markers than AKI-TD. Our results indicate a combination of both pre-renal and inflammatory damage in the pathogenesis of kidney injury in MIS-C syndrome. We highlight, for the first time, the presence of tubular involvement in MIS-C, providing new insights in the evaluation of kidney involvement and its management in this condition

Impurity transport studies in multiple helicity and enhanced confinement QSH regimes in RFX-mod

    Get PDF
The most recent impurity transport studies in RFX-mod are presented. Results from enhanced confinement quasi-single helicity (QSH) and multiple helicity (MH) are compared. The transport parameters are determined by comparing a 1-dimensional collisional radiative simulation with experimental spectroscopic data. Transport parameters obtained for Ni particles injected by the laser blow-off method are described and discussed in relation to results from Ne injection and previous studies

Equilibrium reconstruction for Single Helical Axis reversed field pinch plasmas

Single Helical Axis (SHAx) configurations are emerging as the natural state for high current reversed field pinch (RFP) plasmas. These states feature the presence of transport barriers in the core plasma. Here we present a method for computing the equilibrium magnetic surfaces for these states in the force-free approximation, which has been implemented in the SHEq code. The method is based on the superposition of a zeroth order axisymmetric equilibrium and of a first order helical perturbation computed according to Newcomb's equation supplemented with edge magnetic field measurements. The mapping of the measured electron temperature profiles, soft X-ray emission and interferometric density measurements on the computed magnetic surfaces demonstrates the quality of the equilibrium reconstruction. The procedure for computing flux surface averages is illustrated, and applied to the evaluation of the thermal conductivity profile. The consistency of the evaluated equilibria with Ohm's law is also discussed.Comment: Submitted to Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusio

Model for screening of resonant magnetic perturbations by plasma in a realistic tokamak geometry and its impact on divertor strike points

This work addresses the question of the relation between strike-point splitting and magnetic stochasticity at the edge of a poloidally diverted tokamak in the presence of externally imposed magnetic perturbations. More specifically, ad-hoc helical current sheets are introduced in order to mimic a hypothetical screening of the external resonant magnetic perturbations by the plasma. These current sheets, which suppress magnetic islands, are found to reduce the amount of splitting expected at the target, which suggests that screening effects should be observable experimentally. Multiple screening current sheets reinforce each other, i.e. less current relative to the case of only one current sheet is required to screen the perturbation.Comment: Accepted in the Proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Plasma Surface Interactions, to be published in Journal of Nuclear Materials. Modelling of the effect of ELMs on fuel retention at the bulk W divertor of JET

    Get PDF
Effect of ELMs on fuel retention at the bulk W target of JET ITER-Like Wall was studied with multi-scale calculations. Plasma input parameters were taken from ELMy H-mode plasma experiment. The energetic intra-ELM fuel particles get implanted and create near-surface defects up to depths of few tens of nm, which act as the main fuel trapping sites during ELMs. Clustering of implantation-induced vacancies were found to take place. The incoming flux of inter-ELM plasma particles increases the different filling levels of trapped fuel in defects. The temperature increase of the W target during the pulse increases the fuel detrapping rate. The inter-ELM fuel particle flux refills the partially emptied trapping sites and fills new sites. This leads to a competing effect on the retention and release rates of the implanted particles. At high temperatures the main retention appeared in larger vacancy clusters due to increased clustering rate

Modelling of tungsten erosion and deposition in the divertor of JET-ILW in comparison to experimental findings

    Get PDF
The erosion, transport and deposition of tungsten in the outer divertor of JET-ILW has been studied for an HMode discharge with low frequency ELMs. For this specific case with an inter-ELM electron temperature at the strike point of about 20 eV, tungsten sputtering between ELMs is almost exclusively due to beryllium impurity and self-sputtering. However, during ELMs tungsten sputtering due to deuterium becomes important and even dominates. The amount of simulated local deposition of tungsten relative to the amount of sputtered tungsten in between ELMs is very high and reaches values of 99% for an electron density of 5E13 cm3^{-3} at the strike point and electron temperatures between 10 and 30 eV. Smaller deposition values are simulated with reduced electron density. The direction of the B-field significantly influences the local deposition and leads to a reduction if the E×B drift directs towards the scrape-off-layer. Also, the thermal force can reduce the tungsten deposition, however, an ion temperature gradient of about 0.1 eV/mm or larger is needed for a significant effect. The tungsten deposition simulated during ELMs reaches values of about 98% assuming ELM parameters according to free-streaming model. The measured WI emission profiles in between and within ELMs have been reproduced by the simulation. The contribution to the overall net tungsten erosion during ELMs is about 5 times larger than the one in between ELMs for the studied case. However, this is due to the rather low electron temperature in between ELMs, which leads to deuterium impact energies below the sputtering threshold for tungsten
