Searching for Dark Matter Annihilation in the Smith High-Velocity Cloud

Recent observations suggest that some high-velocity clouds may be confined by massive dark matter halos. In particular, the proximity and proposed dark matter content of the Smith Cloud make it a tempting target for the indirect detection of dark matter annihilation. We argue that the Smith Cloud may be a better target than some Milky Way dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies and use gamma-ray observations from the Fermi Large Area Telescope to search for a dark matter annihilation signal. No significant gamma-ray excess is found coincident with the Smith Cloud, and we set strong limits on the dark matter annihilation cross section assuming a spatially-extended dark matter profile consistent with dynamical modeling of the Smith Cloud. Notably, these limits exclude the canonical thermal relic cross section ($\sim 3\times10^{-26}{\rm cm}^{3}{\rm s}^{-1}$) for dark matter masses $\lesssim 30$ GeV annihilating via the $b \bar b$ or $\tau^{+}\tau^{-}$ channels for certain assumptions of the dark matter density profile; however, uncertainties in the dark matter content of the Smith Cloud may significantly weaken these constraints.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. Score sha2pe como factor de predicción de bajo riesgo de severidad en pacientes adultos con hemorragia digestiva baja

Objetivo: Determinar si en pacientes adultos con hemorragia digestiva baja el score sha2pe es un factor que predice el bajo riesgo de severidad. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, transversal analítico de pruebas diagnósticas, donde se evaluó a una muestra de 103 pacientes adultos con hemorragia digestiva baja que fueron atendidos en el Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo entre enero del 2016 y diciembre del 2019. Resultados: La edad promedio en los grupos con y sin bajo riesgo de severidad fueron 57,97 ± 19,47 vs 63,41 ± 20,59; el 60,61% y 58,57% de los pacientes fueron varones en los grupos de estudio. La presión arterial sistólica, la frecuencia cardiaca, el nivel de hemoglobina y el score Sha2pe estuvieron asociados al bajo riesgo de severidad. Se obtuvieron valores de sensibilidad: 81,82% IC 95% [65,61% - 91,39%], especificidad: 94,29% IC 95% [86,21% - 97,76%], valor Predictivo positivo: 87,10% IC 95% [71,15% - 94,87%], valor Predictivo negativo: 91,67% IC 95% [82,99% - 96,12%] y un área bajo la curva del 0,904 en la predicción del riesgo de severidad por el score Sha2pe en pacientes con hemorragia digestiva baja. Materials and methods: We conducted an observational, cross-sectional analytical study of diagnostic tests, where we evaluated a sample of 103 adult patients with lower gastrointestinal bleeding who were treated at the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo between January 2016 and December 2019. Results: The mean age in the groups with and without low severity risk were 57.97 ± 19.47 vs 63.41 ± 20.59; 60.61% and 58.57% of patients were male in the study groups. Systolic blood pressure, heart rate, hemoglobin level and Sha2pe score were associated with low risk of severity. El incendio de la discoteca factory : el resultado de la exclusión social y geográfica en los espacios públicos en el Sur de Quito

The territorial and social configuration of Quito city answer to a very social, political, economic and cultural phenoms, each one of these have influenced in the process of urbanization and in the configuration of certain areas inside the city. Therefore the land use in the Metropolitan District has been constantly a factor of exclusion, segregation, and gentrification. In this sense the south part of the City has been a temporarily space marked by the class and by the neoliberal process, strategies that have influenced the daily life of its inhabitants. The process of urbanization posed from particular interests generates in the inhabitants of the south part of the City, proposal for social, political and cultural claim. In the cultural sphere arise the disputes for the occupation of the space from the subaltern plaintiffs, generally stigmatized and stereotyped. In this context the present essay aims to investigate: How is social and geographical exclusion exercised since the case factory discotheque? Consider that the incident at the discotheque factory provide us the elements that in one way, pay to the discussion and dialogue from other perspectives and on the other brings us closer to the reality of a cultural proposal that on April 19th, 2008 left 19 people dead and several with second and third degree burns. The research work responds to the qualitative method mediated by ethnography and the techniques of participant observation and interviews. The obtained results at the end of this investigation show us that the incident occurred in the factory discotheque also responds to factors of exclusion and segregation. The essay is divided into 3 paragraphs: approximation to the urban process of the city, South of Quito case, Underground, the Gothic perspective and Factory case.La configuración territorial y social de la ciudad de Quito responde a varios fenómenos sociales, políticos, económicos y culturales, cada uno de estos han incidido en el proceso de urbanización y en la configuración de determinadas zonas al interior de la ciudad, por ello el uso de suelo en el Distrito Metropolitano ha sido constantemente un factor de exclusión, segregación y elitización. En este sentido el sur de la ciudad ha sido un espacio temporalmente marcado por la clase y por el proceso neoliberal, estrategias que han incidido en la cotidianidad de sus habitantes. El proceso de urbanización implementado desde intereses particulares genera en los pobladores del sur de la ciudad propuestas de reivindicación social, política y cultural. En el ámbito cultural emergen disputas por la ocupación del espacio desde las actorías subalternas, generalmente estigmatizadas y estereotipadas. En este contexto la presente etnografía tiene como objetivo investigar ¿Cómo se ejerce la exclusión social y geográfica desde el caso Discoteca Factory? Consideremos que el incidente ocurrido en la discoteca Factory nos proporciona elementos que por un lado, abonan a la discusión y diálogo desde otras perspectivas y por otro, nos acerca a la realidad de una propuesta cultural que el 19 de abril de 2008 dejó 19 personas muertas y varias con quemaduras de segundo y tercer grado. El trabajo de investigación responde al método cualitativo mediado por la etnografía y las técnicas de observación participante y entrevistas. Los resultados obtenidos al finalizar la investigación nos muestra que el incidente ocurrido en la discoteca Factory también responde a factores de exclusión y segregación. La etnografía está divida en 3 acápites: aproximación al proceso urbano de la ciudad, caso sur de Quito; lo Underground; y la perspectiva gótica y el caso Factory

Inclusión educativa en el marco de la movilidad humana que atraviesa a Ecuador

La investigación que se presenta aborda a la inclusión educativa desde una perspectiva de la diversidad. Para ello, se evidencia la experiencia de niños, niñas y adolescentes migrantes venezolanos en escuelas públicas de Quito. Es así que, el trabajo está dividido en tres capítulos: en el primero se realiza una definición del concepto que guía la investigación, inclusión educativa. Además, se realiza el planteamiento, formulación del problema y se describe los objetivos. Posteriormente, se muestra una aproximación conceptual a cultura, identidad y alteridad, son categorías para comprender a la diversidad. Asimismo, se describe las propuestas educativas planteadas por los Estados y que buscan el ejercicio de los derechos en igualdad de condiciones, como la educación. De este modo, se presenta la metodología y consideraciones éticas de la investigación. En el segundo capítulo se realiza una breve caracterización de la migración venezolana en el Ecuador; por consiguiente, se describe los movimientos poblaciones realizados en Latinoamérica, mismos que evidencian flujos poblacionales hacia países desarrollados y a ciudades de la misma región. Seguidamente, se describe las condiciones sociodemográficas de la migración venezolana y se plantea el reto de la integración suramericana. Finalmente, en el tercer capítulo se presenta la voz de los participantes y se describe su experiencia en procesos de inclusión. Por eso mismo, desde los progenitores se evidencia su inclusión en el mercado laboral, conexión con redes sociales y su condición migratoria; mientras que, desde la voz de los niños, niñas y adolescentes migrantes venezolanos se presenta su experiencia de inclusión educativa en escuelas públicas de Quito. En la parte final se encuentra las conclusiones, por ende, la respuesta al objetivo general de la investigación

Swimming training repercussion on metabolic and structural bone development; benefits of the incorporation of whole body vibration or pilometric training; the RENACIMIENTO project

Introduction: Enviromental factors such as exercise participation and nutrition have often been linked to bone improvements. However, not all sports have the same effects, being non-osteogenic sports such as swimming defined as negative or neutral sports to practice regarding bone mass by some authors, similarly exercise-diet interaction in especific groups is still not clear. Objective: To present the methodology of the RENACIMENTO project that aims to evaluate body composition and more specifically bone mass by several techniques in adolescent swimmers and to observe the effects and perdurability of whole body vibration (WBV) and jumping intervention (JIN) on body composition and fitness on this population and explore posible diet interactions. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: 78 swimmers (12-17 y) and 26 sex- and age-matched controls will participate in this study. Dual energy X-ray, peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography, Quantitative Ultrasound, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis, and anthropometry measurements will be performed in order to evaluate body composition. Physical activity, nutrition, pubertal development and socio-economical status may act as confounders of body composition and therefore will also be registered. Several fitness factors regarding strength, endurance, performance and others will also be registered to evaluate differences with controls and act as confounders. A 7-month WBV therapy will be performed by 26 swimmers consisting of a training of 15 minutes 3 times per week. An 8 month JIM will also be performed by 26 swimmers 3 times per week. The remaining 26 swimmers will continue their normal swimming training. Four evaluations will be performed, the first one in order to describe differences between swimmers and controls. The second one to describe the effects of the interventions and the third and fourth evaluations to describe the perdurability of the effects of the WBV and JIN. Conclusion: The RENACIMIENTO project will allow to answer several questions regarding body composition, fitness, bone mass and interaction with diet of adolescent swimmers, describe swimming as a positive, negative or neutral sport to practice regarding these parameters and elucidate the effects and perdurability of WBV and JIM on body composition

Repotenciación y eficiencia del sistema de iluminación fotovoltaico en los laboratorios de control y máquinas de la Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi, utilizando un inversor off grid en conformidad con la norma 003/18

Into present degree work, it is developed the study of control laboratory actual lighting system and CIYA faculty machines, which determined that the lighting level is lower than that allowed by UNE 12464 and RETIE regulations (Electrical InstallationsTechnical Regulations), which is why the design and analysis of two lighting systems based on fluorescent and LED luminaires was made through the Dialux Evo software. The results got of these simulations have allowed to establish, which the lighting system that complies with the required regulations is LED lighting, the same that will be energized with an isolated photovoltaic generation system to the grid through an off Grid inverter, with a 1080 Wp power installed, it distributed in 4 polycrystalline modules of 270 Wp and a 20% efficiency, the accumulation system will consist of 10 deep discharge batteries at 100 Ah/12V and the 3 kVA/24V inverter, then, it is said that luminaires with the use LED technology allows to get an efficient lighting system, together with the photovoltaic system, they will contribute to environmental protection, since it is a renewable energy and thus in this way, it is achieved that the lighting system has an energy saving, which it will allow have an optimal place for working with the respective practices in the control laboratories and machinesEn el presente trabajo de titulación se desarrolló el estudio del sistema de iluminación actual del laboratorio de control y máquinas de la facultad de CIYA, el cual se determinó que el nivel de iluminación es inferior al permitido por las normativas UNE 12464 y RETIE (Reglamento Técnico de Instalaciones Eléctricas), motivo por el cual se efectuó el diseño y análisis de dos sistemas de iluminación en base a luminarias fluorescentes y LED mediante el software Dialux Evo. Los resultados obtenidos de estas simulaciones han permitido establecer que el sistema de iluminación que cumple con las normativas requeridas, es la iluminación LED, el mismo que será energizado con un sistema de generación fotovoltaica aislado a la red utilizando un inversor off Grid, con una potencia instalada de 1080 Wp, distribuida en 4 módulos policristalinos de 270 Wp y una eficiencia de 20%, el sistema de acumulación constará de 10 baterías de descarga profunda a 100 Ah/12V y el inversor de 3 kVA/24V, entonces se dice que el uso de luminarias con tecnología LED, permite obtener un sistema de iluminación eficiente, en conjunto con el sistema fotovoltaico contribuirán en la protección ambiental ya que es una energía renovable y así de esta manera se logra que el sistema de iluminación tenga un ahorro energético que permitirá tener un óptimo lugar para trabajar con las respectivas prácticas en los laboratorio de control y máquinas

Implementación de un sistema de mezclado industrial para bebidas preparadas en la Planta de Lácteos de la ESPOCH.

El presente trabajo de titulación fue desarrollado para dar una óptima solución en cuanto a precisión de cantidades a mezclar, tiempos de mezclado y temperatura del producto final para el “Mezclado de Bebidas Preparadas en la Planta de Lácteos de la ESPOCH”, se recopiló y analizó la información necesaria, y se determinó que los productos alimenticios en su mayoría son fluidos no newtonianos de media y baja viscosidad por lo que un agitador de tipo paletas es el más adecuado para la mezcla de bebidas, se diseñó los sistemas mecánicos, electrónicos, neumáticos e hidráulicos más apropiados para el proceso, tratando de optimizar los recursos disponibles. El sistema en su totalidad está construido en Acero Inoxidable 304, y está siendo controlado por un PLC trabajando conjuntamente con el microcontrolador Arduino, los cuales son encargados de recibir los datos de los sensores de nivel, sensores de temperatura, pulsadores, procesarlos y controlar los actuadores del sistema como electroválvulas hidráulicas, cilindro neumático, resistencia calefactora, motor DC, mediante el uso de relés, circuitos de potencia y relés de estado sólido. El sistema en su totalidad es controlado por una Interfaz de Usuario (HMI) diseñada en el sistema operativo de código abierto Android, haciendo uso de la herramienta oficial de Google para el desarrollo de aplicaciones en dispositivos Android, esta interfaz de usuario se comunica con el sistema mediante tecnología inalámbrica Bluetooth 2.0 y permite un control más cómodo del Sistema. Logrando reducir el tiempo hasta en un 50% en la preparación de bebidas, con el sistema implementado frente a la forma manual. El diseño de los contenedores del equipo facilita su limpieza y evita que se acumulen desperdicios de procesos anteriores, así como la proliferación de bacterias.The actual work’s tittle was developed to give an optimal solution to the precise amount of mixing times, and the final product temperature for the “Mixing of Prepared Beverages in the Lacteos site at the ESPOCH” we compiled and analized all the necessary information and it was determined that the food products in their mayority are fluids not Newtonians of medium and low viscosity, therefore an agitator of pallet type is the most appropriate to mix beverage. The mechanic, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic system desing, was the most appropriate for the process, trying to optimize the available resources. The system in its totally was built in stainless steel 304, and it has been controlled by a PLC working together with the Arduino microcontroller, which are in charge of received the data from de the level’s sensors, temperature’s sensors, buttons, processing and controlling the system’s started as a electrovalves hydraulics, pneumatic cylinder, heating resistant, DC motor, throughout to use of relay, circuit potency, and relays of solid state. The system in its totally is controlled by an user interface (HMI) designed in the open system from Android open code, making use of Google’s official tool to develop the applications in the Android Device, this interface communicates with the system through the wireless technology Bluetooth 2.0 and allows a better control of the System. Thereby reducing the time up to a 50% in the preparation of beverages, with the implemented system against the manual form. The design of equipment containers makes it easy to clean and prevents from old waste accumulation, as much as bacteria proliferation

Propuesta de un modelo E-Marketing para incrementar la captación de las clientes de la Universidad Señor de Sipán

La presente investigación ha sido desarrollada por la necesidad de contar con una modelo e-marketing que permita optimizar el marketing global con el que se cuenta; así como mejorar las campañas comerciales y la publicidad para incrementar la captación de clientes, acciones que nos han llevado a preguntarnos ¿Cuál sería el modelo de e-marketing para incrementar la captación de clientes de la Universidad Señor de Sipán? pregunta que se justifica científicamente porque se usarán teorías relacionadas con Modelos de E-Marketing como: Las 4Ps de Kotler & Amstrong y Captación de Clientes de Connor & Davison, con el objetivo de proponer un modelo e-marketing para incrementar la captación de clientes de la Universidad Señor de Sipán. Los resultados muestran que los alumnos inscritos en el examen de admisión periodo 2015-1 se redujeron en un 10%, siendo la diferencia de 210 inscritos. El total fue del 90%, siendo estos 1890 postulantes de la meta establecida 2100 postulantes. Los ingresantes se redujeron en un 7%, siendo la diferencia de 138 ingresantes. El total de ingresantes fue del 93%, siendo estos 1752 ingresantes del total de la meta establecida 1890 ingresantes. Los matriculados se redujeron en un 7%, siendo la diferencia de 116 matriculados. Finalmente, el total de alumnos registrados fue del 93%, siendo estos 1623 matriculados del total de la meta establecida 1739 registrados. Asimismo, con el diseño de la propuesta de un modelo e-marketing, se concluye que hay factores influyentes como la efectividad de las estrategias de marketing, estrategias agresivas de captación de clientes, nivel de eficiencia de las actividades desarrolladas, imprevistos en la ejecución de los planes operativos, incremento de la oferta universitaria en la Región Lambayeque. Finalmente, se recomienda aprobar la ejecución del modelo e-marketing, debido a que permitirá incrementar la captación de clientes, Implementar un sistema de monitoreo y control de la ejecución, que permita a su vez asegurar su efectividad, obtener información precisa, oportuna y asegurar su continuidad, así como evaluar de manera progresiva los resultados obtenidos, identificando los factores influyentes y estableciendo planes de mejora continua
