Gas Sensing Properties of p-Co3O4/n-TiO2 Nanotube Heterostructures

In this paper, we fabricated p-Co3O4/n-TiO2 heterostructures and investigated their gas sensing properties. The structural and morphological characterization were performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis (XPS). The electrical properties of the heterostructure were studied within the temperature range from 293 K to 423 K. Changes in electrical properties and sensing behavior against reducing and oxidizing gases were attributed to the formation of p–n heterojunctions at the Co3O4 and TiO2 interface. In comparison with sensing performed with pristine TiO2 nanotubes (NTs), a significant improvement in H2 sensing at 200 °C was observed, while the sensing response against NO2 decreased for the heterostructures. Additionally, a response against toluene gas, in contrast to pristine TiO2 NTs, appeared in the Co3O4/TiO2 heterostructure samples

Evaluation of the thyroid blood flow with Doppler ultrasonography in healthy school-aged children

WOS: 000249541400016PubMed: 17374471Objective: To determine the relationship between thyroid blood flow and anthropometric measurements, pubertal stage, and thyroid and gonadotropic hormones. Materials and methods: We examined 123 healthy school-aged children prospectively (69 boys (56.1%) and 54 girls (43.9%), 7-17 years old). Their sex, age, body weight, height, body mass index (BMI), and pubertal stage were determined. Serum thyrotropin, free thyroxine, luteinizing hormone, and follicle stimulating hormone were measured in both genders, along with testosterone in boys and estradiol in girls. The peak systolic velocity (PSV), resistance index (RI), and pulsatility index (PI) of the superior thyroid artery were determined. The correlations between the Doppler parameters and these factors were investigated. Results: There were no differences in age, weight, height, BMI, thyroid volume, PSV, RI, or PI between boys and girls (P>0.05). The PSV and PI showed strong correlations with age, height, weight, puberty stage, thyroid volume, and BMI. The RI showed a strong inverse correlation with age, height, weight, puberty stage, and thyroid volume and a weak inverse correlation with the BMI. Conclusion: Determination of the thyroid arterial flow in normal healthy children is important during a Doppler ultrasound (US) examination. Doppler US parameters and their percentiles should be described in healthy children from different age groups, and these percentiles will aid in interpreting Doppler US in children. 19th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting (BIYOMUT) -- NOV 05-06, 2015 -- Istanbul, TURKEYWOS: 000380507300004The group of Ege Reflux has been had records of reflux patients and file system since 2000. However it hasn't database systems for patient files. In this study will provide to web based construct 6893 patient records which are tracking by Ege University faculty of medicine, group of study of reflux. There is no determined reflux software anywhere that is planned software. Therefore this software has a potential that may be used national or international units. The data can be transform interpretable data and transport to designed database that has come from patient tracking system. A data warehouse can be construct for web based decision support system that will develop by acquired data. With data mining algorithms will provide a decision support system that can give their analysis results to the physician. And it will provide a mechanism to perform data analysis. All kept in the archives of patient demographic information, lab results and tests in accordance with the patient information with security rules will be collected in a common database. This system will allow personnel of health to easily access the system by using different platforms. It also provides for entry of up-to-date information and rapid queries of patient information while the treatment process. This software will provide academic, operational, technological and economical a lots of benefits

The Impact of Whole Body Vibration Therapy on Spasticity and Disability of the Patients with Poststroke Hemiplegia

Objective. To determine if whole body vibration therapy (WBV) effectively improves functional outcome in patients with poststroke hemiplegia. Materials and Methods. In this single-blind RCT, WBV group (n=10) had 40 hz frequency/4 mm amplitude vibration during 5 minutes/session, 3 days a week, for a duration of 4 weeks. The control group (n=11) had no vibration therapy for the same duration while standing on the same platform. Patients in both of the groups did 15 minutes of stretching and active range of motion exercises before the intervention. Outcome measures were Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), Functional Independence Measurement (FIM), and Timed 10-Meter Walk Test (10 mWT). Results. Only 10 mWT improved at the 1st week (p=0.002), 1st month (p<0.001), and 3rd month (p<0.001) in favor of the intervention group. There was positive correlation also between 10 mWT and ankle spasticity (p<0.001, r=0.931). Conclusion. This study suggests that WBV therapy may be a complementary therapy in gait rehabilitation and functional outcome of the patients with calf muscle spasticity
