Disparities in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Mental Health Services in the U.S.

This is one of a series of five papers outlining the particular domains and dimensions of inequality where new research may yield a better understanding of responses to this growing issue.Mental health is recognized as a central determinant of individual well-being, family relationships, and engagement in society, yet there are considerable variations in mental health and mental health care according to race and ethnicity among youth in the U.S.In their report, Margarita Alegría and colleagues investigate disparities in mental health and mental health services for minority youth. Taking a developmental perspective, the authors explore four areas that may give rise to inequalities in mental health outcomes, highlight specific protective factors and barriers to care, and, finally, outline an agenda for future research

Regulating agro-forest areas for a sustainable cork harvest

In this study an agro-forestry area of cork oak partial affected by fire was considered. Even though having a forest management plan, the existing management compartments didn’t allow for a sustainable cork annual harvest. To achieve sustainability the area control method for forest regulation was first applied, using a cycle of nine years through a 27 years planning horizon. Later, cork annual yield was also considered in the forest regulation analysis. Cork yield was simulated along the 27 years period using the individual tree growth and yield model Suber. Finally, the proposed management unit compartments were produced as vector layer a GIS and the attribute table organized with all the information available in order to support forest management

Obesity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes: cardiovascular implications and therapy

Obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type-2 diabetes mellitus are 3 interrelated conditions that share a number of pathophysiological mechanisms and that are frequently observed to lead, in succession, to cardiovascular complications. The fact that their prevalence is increasing alarmingly should prompt all healthcare professionals urgently to implement measures to prevent these complications. The most effective, though also the least adopted, are those related to lifestyle modification. A deficiência de factor XI é uma doença hematológica rara na população em geral. Pode manifestar-se apenas como complicação hemorrágica no doente submetido a cirurgia electiva. Os autores descrevem o caso clínico de uma mulher de 59 anos, que apresenta um quadro de hemorragia vaginal abundante 10 dias após ter sido submetida a histerectomia vaginal com McCall, plastia anterior e posterior. Salientam a importância da avaliação analítica pré-operatória, em especial o estudo da coagulação, e descrevem a abordagem e o tratamento da deficiência de factor XI

Impacto da adoção do sistema de normalização contabilística - entidades do setor não lucrativo (SNC-ESNL) nas Santas Casas da Misericórdia: estudo de caso

Este estudio tiene como objetivo entender el impacto que la implementación del “Sistema de Normalização Contabilística - Entidades do Setor Não Lucrativo” en los estados financieros de la “Santa Casa daMisericórdia do Porto”, en 2011. En concreto, se pretende evaluar los impactos de la im plementación del“Sistema de Normalização Contabilística - Entidades do Setor Não Lucrativo”, en las diferentes rubricas de los estados financieros (balance y cuenta de resultados) y ciertos ratios financieros. También se estudia el grado de conservadurismo (índice de Gray), intentando entender si en la transición de “Plano de Contas das Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social” para“Sistema de Normalização Contabilística - Entidades do Setor Não Lucrativo”e adoptaron prácticas contables más o menos conservadoras. Los resultados permiten concluir que la adopción del“Sistema de Normalização Contabilística - Entidades do Setor Não Lucrativo” tuvo algún impacto en diferentes rubricas de los estados financieros (balance y cuenta de resultados) y ciertos ratios financieros. También se observa que el grado de conservadurismo subyacente a los dos estándares son muy similares

Efficient cyclohexane oxidation with hydrogen peroxide catalysed by a C-scorpionate iron(II) complex immobilized on desilicated MOR zeolite

The hydrotris(pyrazol-1-yl)methane iron(II) complex [FeCl2{eta(3)-HC(pz)(3)}] (Fe, pz = pyrazol-1-yl) immobilized on commercial (MOR) or desilicated (MOR-D) zeolite, catalyses the oxidation of cyclohexane with hydrogen peroxide to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, under mild conditions. MOR-D/Fe (desilicated zeolite supported [FeCl2{eta(3)-HC(pz)(3)}] complex) provides an outstanding catalytic activity (TON up to 2.90 x 10(3)) with the concomitant overall yield of 38%, and can be easy recovered and reused. The MOR or MOR-D supported hydrotris(pyrazol-1-yl)methane iron(II) complex (MOR/Fe and MOR-D/Fe, respectively) was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, ICP-AES, and TEM studies as well as by IR spectroscopy and N-2 adsorption at -196 degrees C. The catalytic operational conditions (e.g., reaction time, type and amount of oxidant, presence of acid and type of solvent) were optimized. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
