Assessment Tools in Clinical and Counseling Psychology

    Get PDF
Evidence-based assessment (EBA) is defined as the use of standardized assessment tools that have research support for their psychometric properties (Jensen-Doss & Hawley, 2010). Assessment is a key aspect of the therapeutic process. It involves screening individuals who are at risk for a particular mental health concern, determining the severity of a given issue, and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment. EBA allows for best practice by providing empirically sound, valid, reliable measures of assessment. The broad areas of anxiety and depression represent extremely common disorders. Because of their high prevalence, evidence-based assessment tools catered toward depression and anxiety could be useful in primary care offices, inpatient clinics, and outpatient facilities. These measures take only minutes to complete and are easy to score and interpret. This reduces the strain on time and resources that longer, more complex measures would create. These instruments, along with many others, show that EBA is possible and plausible. The term “evidence-based” should not be reserved for treatment alone, but rather it should be integrated into all parts of the therapeutic process

Governance in the Cloud: Role of Certification for SME Trust and Adoption

Growth of cloud computing as a concept continues to pose challenges on how to deliver agile, yet secure, IT services to enterprises. While the hype surrounding cloud computing may have peaked, the concept of “cloudwashing” (adding the term “cloud” to an existing service for marketing reasons) continues to cause confusion and inflated expectations with enterprise buyers. This fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) just slows down the growth of a potentially larger market. This is especially true for small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) who turn to IT providers to handle the underlying systems for their businesses. To assist cloud service buyers, a recent communication from the European Commission advocated voluntary certification for cloud service providers. This has sparked a debate as to the relevance and authority of certification bodies in verifying the ability and capability of cloud service providers (CSP). In this research in progress paper, we present the current status of our research on examining what role third party certifiers can play in adoption of cloud by SMEs, with a case study of one certifier in Europe already involved in market adoption to test our framework

Perceptions of Happiness Through the Lens of Age and Gender

    Get PDF
This paper intends to examine the possible relationship between demographic variables and perceptions of happiness. The demographic variables being studied are age and gender. Perceptions of happiness are measured by the Conceptions of Happiness Scale (Joshanloo, 2018) and represent one’s overall idea of happiness. A survey was distributed to adults that were recruited via social media and flyer recruitment on the campus of Lindenwood University. The survey consisted of demographic questions as well as the Conceptions of Happiness Scale (Joshanloo, 2018) for participants to complete. Initial hypotheses predicted differences in perceptions of happiness amongst different age and gender groups. However, an inadequate amount of data collected resulted in an inability to conduct a one-way analysis of variance, as planned. Descriptive analyses were conducted and found a slightly higher sum of the scale scores for women and middle-aged participants in comparison to their counterparts. The study will remain open until adequate data is collected to continue data analysis and determine whether there are different in the perceptions of happiness of people of different age and gender groups

Using Electronic Invoicing to Manage Cash Forecasting and Working Capital in the Financial Supply Chain

Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment (EIPP) can assist corporate treasurers in cash management and can be integrated with e-marketplaces and other B2B financial settlement activities. Its interactive approach to dispute resolution and robust payment options are critical if corporate financiers are to secure the advantages of B2B marketplaces and straight through processing (STP). Cash management providers used to offer corporates and banks different cash management products and services, but the launch of the Euro and increasing competition have seen these solutions converge. More sophisticated corporate treasurers are currently using state-of-the-art financial tools for cash management, and EIPP can assist these corporates in a similar manner to banks. This research builds on previous literature on EIPP and banking, and examines what drives EIPP adoption for financial treasurers in cash forecasting and cash-to-collections process and their use of EIPP techniques. Survey results from industry are discussed

The purpose of this paper is to share the results of an 8-week study that focused on the effects of incorporating real-life applications and rewards to measure their impact on student motivation. The goal was to reduce the number of students unmotivated to complete their mathematics assignments satisfactorily

Improving the Relationship between Emergency Nurses and the Behavioral Health Patient

    Get PDF
There is an increasing number of behavioral health patients entering through the emergency department for behavioral health treatment and crisis intervention every day. Workplace violence against nurses has also increased leaving some nurses feeling anxious and fearful of interactions with behavioral health patients. The increase of behavioral health patients and unstable situations have created a gap in communications and has strained the nurse patient relationship yielding poor patient outcomes. The purpose of this project is to educate nurses on the care of the behavioral health patients and improve nurse-patient relationships for better outcomes for the patient. The framework for this project was influenced by Peplau’s Theory of Interpersonal Relationships

Possible Disintermediation: What Role for Banks in Electronic Invoicing (EIPP)?

“Driven by a desire to get paid more quickly, companies are moving more of their invoices and payment to the internet. Businesses care more about faster cash flow than they do about cutting costs. ” (GartnerGroup, 2001). Electronic Invoice Presentment and Payment (EIPP) is targeted to the needs of corporates and can be integrated with e-marketplaces and B2B financial settlement for bank-neutral global payment services. Its interactive approach to dispute resolution and robust payment options are critical if corporates are to secure the advantages of B2B marketplaces and straight through processing (STP). This research examines the possible role for banks in EIPP, and what might drive bank EIPP adoption. Case studies are examined from industry. 1

284— Talkin\u27 Bout a Revolution: American Protest and Counter-Protest Movements in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Century

This poster represents my research for my senior seminar in Political Science. This project explores different protest and counter-protest movements throughout the United States in the last one hundred years. Through comparative study, this project tracks and collates these different protest and counter-protest movements. This research attempts to answer the following questions: Have the nature of protest and counter-protests movements changed over time? If so, how have these movements adapted to modernity? Protest and counter-protest movements are some of the most direct opportunities for American citizens to engage in our democracy. Therefore, this project also explores the important implications of different protest and counter-protest movements over time as they related to the larger concept of the health of American democracy as a whole

    On colorfastness and soil remediation

This site, this neighborhood, this fragmented census tract: like a stained-glass window shattered and then fused together again, light diffuses differently depending on where you stand. East Lake bears the marks of the toxic sublime, a palette complicated by interactions between cadmium punches of Southern racism and verdant bursts of community activism. This story is about colorfastness — the physical resistance of a color to the loss of its original quality. This story is about a place where nostalgia meets optimism, but this place that is not my home. This is an assay of simultaneous contrasts, a naming of things changing hues amid systematic shifts
