    First measurements of the total proton-proton cross section at the LHC energy of 1as =7TeV

    Get PDF
    TOTEM has measured the differential cross-section for elastic proton-proton scattering at the LHC energy of analysing data from a short run with dedicated large-\u3b2* optics. A single exponential fit with a slope B=(20.1\ub10.2stat\ub10.3syst) GeV 122 describes the range of the four-momentum transfer squared |t| from 0.02 to 0.33 GeV2. After the extrapolation to |t|=0, a total elastic scattering cross-section of (24.8\ub10.2stat\ub11.2syst) mb was obtained. Applying the optical theorem and using the luminosity measurement from CMS, a total proton-proton cross-section of (98.3\ub10.2stat\ub12.8syst) mb was deduced which is in good agreement with the expectation from the overall fit of previously measured data over a large range of center-of-mass energies. From the total and elastic pp cross-section measurements, an inelastic pp cross-section of was inferred

    Measurements of Branching Fractions and Dalitz Distributions for B0→D(*)±K0π∓ Decays

    No full text
    We present measurements of the branching fractions for the three-body decays B0→D(*)∓K0π± and their resonant submodes B0→D(*)∓K*± using a sample of approximately 88×106 BB̅ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric energy storage ring. We measure: B(B0→D∓K0π±)=(4.9±0.7stat±0.5syst)×10-4, B(B0→D*∓K0π±)=(3.0±0.7stat±0.3syst)×10-4, B(B0→D∓K*±)=(4.6±0.6stat±0.5syst)×10-4, B(B0→D*∓K*±)=(3.2±0.6stat±0.3syst)×10-4. From these measurements we determine the fractions of resonant events to be f(B0→D∓K*±)=0.63±0.08stat±0.04syst and f(B0→D*∓K*±)=0.72±0.14stat±0.05syst

    Search for the Rare Decays B0Ds()+a0(2)B^0 \to D_s^{(*)+} a_{0(2)}^-

    8 pages, 8 postscript figures, submitted to PRD-RCWe have searched for the decays B0Ds+a0B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{+}a_0^-, B0Ds+a0B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{*+}a_0^-, B0Ds+a2B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{+}a_2^- and B0Ds+a2B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{*+}a_2^- in a sample of about 230 million Υ(4S)BBˉ\Upsilon(4S) \rightarrow B{\bar B} decays collected with the {\sl BaBar} detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy BB-factory at SLAC. We find no evidence for these decays and set upper limits at 90\% C.L. on the branching fractions: B(B0Ds+a0)<1.9×105{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow D_s^+ a_0^-) < 1.9\times 10^{-5}, B(B0Ds+a0)<3.6×105{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{*+} a_0^-) < 3.6\times 10^{-5}, B(B0Ds+a2)<1.9×104{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow D_s^+ a_2^-) < 1.9 \times 10^{-4}, and B(B0Ds+a2)<2.0×104{\cal B}(B^0 \rightarrow D_s^{*+} a_2^-) < 2.0\times 10^{-4}

    Measurement of the Branching Fractions and CP Asymmetry of B-→D(CP)0K- Decays with the BABAR Detector

    No full text
    The measurement of R, Rcp+, and Acp+ were presented. B- → D° K-decays with D° mesons decaying to non-CP and CP-even eigenstates were reconstructed. It was observed that the charged-particle tracking was provided by a five-layer silicon vertex tracker (SVT). It was shown that the parametrization of the particle identication PDF was performed by fitting with a Gaussian distribution

    Search for Lepton Flavor Violation in the Decay τ^{±}→μ^{±}γ

    Get PDF
    A search for the nonconservation of lepton flavor number in the decay τ±→μ±γ has been performed using 2.07×108 e+e-→τ+τ- events produced at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching ratio of B(τ±→μ±γ)<6.8×10-8 at 90% confidence level

    Measurement of D-s(+) and D-s(*+) production in B meson decays and from continuum e(+)e(-) annihilation at root s=10.6 GeV

    No full text
    New measurements of D-s(+) and D-s(*+) meson production rates from B decays and from q(q) over bar continuum events near the Y(4S) resonance are presented. Using 20.8 fb(-1) of data on the Y(4S) resonance and 2.6 fb(-1) off-resonance, we find the inclusive branching fractions B(B-->Ds+X) = (10.93+/-0.19+/-0.58+/-2.73)% and B(B-->Ds*+X) = (7.9+/-0.8+/-0.7+/-2.0)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the D-s(+)-->phipi(+) branching fraction uncertainty. The production cross sections sigma(e(+)e(-)-->Ds+X)xB(D-s(+)-->phipi(+)) = 7.55+/-0.20+/-0.34 pb and sigma(e(+)e(-)-->Ds*+/-X)xB(D-s(+)-->phipi(+)) = 5.8+/-0.7+/-0.5 pb are measured at center-of-mass energies about 40 MeV below the Y(4S) mass. The branching fractions SigmaB(B-->D-s((*)+)(D) over bar ((*))) = (5.07+/-0.14+/-0.30+/-1.27)% and SigmaB(B-->D-s(*+)(D) over bar ((*))) = (4.1+/-0.2+/-0.4+/-1.0)% are determined from the D-s((*)+) momentum spectra. The mass difference m(D-s(+)) -m(D+) = 98.4+/-0.1+/-0.3 MeV/c(2) is also measured
