Explicit Resolutions of Double Point Singularities of Surfaces
Locally analytically, any isolated double point occurs as a double covering
of a smooth surface. It can be desingularized via the canonical resolution, as
it is well-known. In this paper we explicitly compute the fundamental cycle of
both the canonical and minimal resolution of a double point singularity and we
classify those for which the fundamental cycle differs from the fiber cycle.
Finally we compute the conditions that a double point imposes to pluricanonical
systems.Comment: 31 pages; partially rewritte
The Intention to Purchase Recycled Products: Towards an Integrative Theoretical Framework
The growing interest of the scientific literature regarding purchase behavior, circular economy and new business models has generated the need, as well as the opportunity, for a comprehensive review and categorization of the state of the existing research carried out so far. The present study aims at reconciling the wide but fragmented literature dealing with the purchase intention of recycled products. An integrative theoretical framework, able to combine several constructs, perspectives, and theories discussed to date on the topic, is proposed. Such framework represents a further step toward a comprehensive understanding of behavioral theories and constructs, which need to be understood to design effective business models for the circular economy. This effort could be highly valuable both for scholars interested in the topic—as the integrative framework could assist them in theorizing additional effects—and for firms’ managers—who can understand, more in depth, the drivers of the consumers’ purchasing process and act accordingly
Luminescent Cu(I) complex with bis(indazol-1-yl)phenylmethane as chelating ligand
The cationic Cu(I) complex [Cu(N^N)2]+, where N^N is bis(indazol-1-yl)phenylmethane, was
synthesized as chloride or tetrafluoroborate salt by reacting CuCl or [Cu(NCCH3)4][BF4] with
bis(indazol-1-yl)phenylmethane under mild conditions. The structure of [Cu(N^N)2]Cl was
ascertained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex exhibited bright yellow emission upon
excitation with near UV and violet light, attributed to triplet LLCT/MLCT transitions on the basis of
experimental data and computational outcomes
Light harvesting indolyl-substituted phosphoramide ligand for the enhancement of Mn(ii) luminescence
The reaction of N,N,N',N'‐tetramethyl‐P‐indol‐1‐ylphosphonic diamide (L) with Mn(II) halides under mild conditions allowed the isolation of tetrahedral neutral complexes having general formula [MnX2L2] (X = Cl, Br, I). The structures of the new coordination compounds were ascertained by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The three species exhibited noticeable luminescence in the green region upon excitation with UV light, with emissions related to the Mn(II) 4T1(4G)→6A1(6S) transition, without appreciable luminescence from the coordinated ligands. Luminescence was caused by both metal and ligand excitations. The good light harvesting features of the indol‐1‐yl fragment allowed the luminescence enhancement with respect to comparable phenyl‐substituted derivatives
Manganese(ii) bromo- and iodo-complexes with phosphoramidate and phosphonate ligands: synthesis, characterization and photoluminescence
Tetrahedral Mn(II) bromo‐ and iodo‐complexes with phosphoramidate and phosphonate ligands were synthesized and characterized. Mononuclear complexes with general formula [MnX2L2] were isolated by using the monodentate ligands O=P(OPh)2(NMe2) and O=P(OPh)2Ph. The bidentate resorcinol derivative 1,3‐O=P(NMe2)O‐C6H4‐O(NMe2)2P=O behaved as bridging ligand, affording by reaction with MnX2 salts a dinuclear complex in the case of X = Br and a coordination polymer for X = I, as revealed by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. All the compounds showed the characteristic green photoluminescence of Mn(II) in tetrahedral environment. The lifetime values resulted influenced by the symmetry of the compounds. The complexes with O=P(OPh)2(NMe2) in the coordination sphere showed high photoluminescence quantum yields
Characterization of bipartite states using a single homodyne detector
We suggest a scheme to reconstruct the covariance matrix of a two-mode state
using a single homodyne detector plus a polarizing beam splitter and a
polarization rotator. It can be used to fully characterize bipartite Gaussian
states and to extract relevant informations on generic states.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
Forensic NMR metabolomics: one more arrow in the quiver
Introduction: NMR metabolomics is increasingly used in forensics, due to the possibility of investigating both endogenous metabolic profiles and exogenous molecules that may help to describe metabolic patterns and their modifications associated to specific conditions of forensic interest. Objectives: The aim of this work was to review the recent literature and depict the information provided by NMR metabolomics. Attention has been devoted to the identification of peculiar metabolic signatures and specific ante-mortem and post-mortem profiles or biomarkers related to different conditions of forensic concern, such as the identification of biological traces, the estimation of the time since death, and the exposure to drugs of abuse. Results and Conclusion: The results of the described studies highlight how forensics can benefit from NMR metabolomics by gaining additional information that may help to shed light in several forensic issues that still deserve to be further elucidated
Improvement of skeletal muscle performance in ageing by the metabolic modulator Trimetazidine
BACKGROUND: The loss of muscle mass (sarcopenia) and the associated reduced muscle strength are key limiting factors for elderly people's quality of life. Improving muscle performance does not necessarily correlate with increasing muscle mass. In fact, particularly in the elderly, the main explanation for muscle weakness is a reduction of muscle quality rather than a loss of muscle mass, and the main goal to be achieved is to increase muscle strength. The effectiveness of Trimetazidine (TMZ) in preventing muscle functional impairment during ageing was assessed in our laboratory. METHODS: Aged mice received TMZ or vehicle for 12 consecutive days. Muscle function was evaluated at the end of the treatment by a grip test as well as by an inverted screen test at 0, 5, 7 and 12 days of TMZ treatment. After sacrifice, muscles were stored for myofiber cross‐sectional area assessment and myosin heavy chain expression evaluation by western blotting. RESULTS: Chronic TMZ treatment does not affect the mass of both gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscles, while it significantly increases muscle strength. Indeed, both latency to fall and grip force are markedly enhanced in TMZ‐treated versus untreated mice. In addition, TMZ administration results in higher expression of slow myosin heavy chain isoform and increased number of small‐sized myofibers. CONCLUSIONS: We report here some data showing that the modulation of skeletal muscle metabolism by TMZ increases muscle strength in aged mice. Reprogramming metabolism might therefore be a strategy worth to be further investigated in view of improving muscle performance in the elderly
