    XSIL: Extensible Scientific Interchange Language

    Get PDF
We motivate and define the XSIL language as a flexible, hierarchical, extensible transport language for scientific data objects. The entire object may be represented in the file, or there may be metadata in the XSIL file, with a powerful, fault-tolerant linking mechanism to external data. The language is based on XML, and is designed not only for parsing and processing by machines, but also for presentation to humans through web browsers and web-database technology. There is a natural mapping between the elements of the XSIL language and the object model into which they are translated by the parser. As well as common objects (Parameter, Array, Time, Table), we have extended XSIL to include the IGWDFrame, used by gravitational-wave observatories

Testing the Cosmological Principle in the radio sky

The Cosmological Principle states that the Universe is statistically isotropic and homogeneous on large scales. In particular, this implies statistical isotropy in the galaxy distribution, after removal of a dipole anisotropy due to the observer's motion. We test this hypothesis with number count maps from the NVSS radio catalogue. We use a local variance estimator based on patches of different angular radii across the sky and compare the source count variance between and within these patches. In order to assess the statistical significance of our results, we simulate radio maps with the NVSS specifications and mask. We conclude that the NVSS data is consistent with statistical isotropy.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. To appear in JCA

In Indonesia, there is HIV/AIDS epidemics with a prevalence of 0.2% among adults. It needs assessment on integrity to improve reliability and effectiveness the program implementation for understanding public policy, transparency, accountability, active community participation and ethics considerations of HIV/AIDS based on Government Regulation No. 75/2006. The study aimed to understand integrity of HIV/AIDS on public health institutions, and related private sectors in Manado City. It was an observational study with a cross sectional design. Data were collected by in-depth interviews to policy makers in the public sector, Head of Health Offi ces and the programmers, Provincial AIDS Committee, Province hospital, health centers, NGOs and private clinics. Standards and regulations of HIV/AIDS management activities refer to the International, national, provincial and municipal. There were transparencies but fi nancial aspects and recording reporting of cases are still un opened. The accountability and effectiveness of procedure management could not be as a whole because lacked of adequate resources, including budget availability. There were not availabity of etics based standard services. There were not policy on human resources capacity building that caused in balance the quality and quantity of staffs. The prevention and management are still lack in high-risk and vulnerable populations. There were lack of concept understanding and practical integrity of health workers on management level and health care providers. Itneeded fi nancial transparency. Monitoring and evaluation to health facilities should be regularly; there should be policies for handling public complaints, training of standards management for health workers; training concept of integrity to related sectors. The active community participation should be enhanced

Introduction: With the recent implementation of the K-12 curriculum in the Philippines, teachers are challenged to develop relevant, research-based, and responsive instructional materials. Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to develop and validate learning material in physics based on selected least mastered competencies for tenth grades. The researcher developed a set of learning material which covers the topic mirror and lenses. Methodology: This study utilized the descriptive-developmental research focus on the development of instructional material. Mean and Mean Percentage Score (MPS) used to analyse descriptive data. Instructional materials support learning content, allow students to engage in the concepts application and provide an opportunity for evaluation. They are developed to help teachers facilitate learner’s prior knowledge, assist them to process and understand the new learning, and eventually aid them apply newly acquired knowledge to their practical lives. Results: The result of the study showed that students has low mastery in the topic light, specifically in mirror and lenses.  The developed set of learning materials was anchored to the ADDIE model: the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Recommendations/Classroom Implications:  Teachers should develop learning materials based on the least mastered competencies of the students. The proposed learning materials is recommended for use in Grade 10 Physics classes. Further, the proposed learning materials should be subjected for further research to determine its effectiveness in improving the performance of students in science 10 Physics

Kata kunci: Lansia, Akses Pelayanan Kesehatan Abstract Researches on the access of the elderly to health services have been carried out by using the same or different methods. Therefore, a combined result of research analysis is needed and can be used as an inference and it can be interpreted. The objectives are to study through a meta-analysis of public health service for elderly through assess the available at the puskesmas level; to identify where the information and knowledge of health obtained by elderly; the decision making of elderly when they are suffering from illness, and the availability of health services for elderly at puskesmas, and the social empowerment and economic support. In the literatures and documents the keywords were identified and inferenced the results by creating sub-topics. The summary of the literature review was made and consented to the order and relevance of the topic in each variable, which is adjusted to the related sub-topics. Access to health care for the elderly is highly dependent on the availability of health resources, adequate equipment in the appropriate program. There are elderly who do not use the health services available at health facilities due to the distance of the health facilities that are quite far from where they live and there was no one drives them to health facility. Therefore, even the health service was free for charge, the elderly had not used it. Many elderly obtained a benefit of health promotion through the social media. In puskesmas there were lacks of availability of medical devices, drugs and medical supplies, laboratories, including the operational cost for eldery’s health services. Public – private collaboration on social protection for elderly was existed such as from churches support including other social supports namely Corporate Social Responsibility program from private sector. The policies, infrastructures, and resources in the health facility were affected to the access of elderly. Social protection and economic empowerment have a potential role in improving the quality of life for the elderly. Improving the health service for elderly at puskesmas are urgently needed. Health services quality for elderly provided by public health institutions should be fulfilled particularly on the human resources capacity. Support and guidance by the local government through various health promotion and prevention activities and cross-program collaboration with related sectors should be boosted.
