Modeling urbanization patterns with generative adversarial networks

In this study we propose a new method to simulate hyper-realistic urban patterns using Generative Adversarial Networks trained with a global urban land-use inventory. We generated a synthetic urban "universe" that qualitatively reproduces the complex spatial organization observed in global urban patterns, while being able to quantitatively recover certain key high-level urban spatial metrics.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Els espais oberts periurbans i la configuració del paisatge quotidià en entorns metropolitans: recerca preliminar

El desenvolupament sostenible de les regions metropolitanes passa per la valoració i protecció dels espais oberts periurbans; per una banda, com a part de la matriu ecològica del territori, i per altra, com a indrets de retrobament amb la natura d’alt valor social. El present article es centra en la vessant vivencial d’aquests nous espais de lleure metropolità i argumenta la necessitat d’incorporar un enfocament innovador que reculli la visió des del subjecte. Per això, es proposa un mètode de diagnosi geo-etnogràfica encaminat a identificar els processos d’apropiació en curs. A partir dels resultats preliminars obtinguts en dos casos d’estudi metropolitans, es constata el rol emergent dels espais oberts periurbans com a indrets d’ús col·lectiu amb identitat pròpia.In order to enhance the sustainable development of metropolitan regions, we must pursue the value and protection of peri-urban open spaces as part of the land mosaic and as sites of encounter with nature of high social-use value. This article’s main focus is on the experiential knowledge in the new metropolitan leisure spaces through an innovative approach which incorporates the individual residents’ viewpoint. In order to accomplish this, we propose a diagnostic method based on geo-ethnographic analysis which enables us to identify the processes of appropriation of these spaces. Preliminary results obtained through two case studies in metropolitan regions, allows us to assess the emerging role of peri-urban open spaces as places of collective use with their own identity.Peer Reviewe

Debatir el Derecho. Experiencia docente del Practicum de Teoría del Derecho I

The object of the article is the report of a teaching experience of practical sessions of Theory of Law I. The practicum have been carried out through the organization of the students in debate's group. Matters of interest for them, as dead penalty or globalisation, have been discussed on the basis of the theoretical content of Theory of Law I. First of all, it is offered a description of the reasons why the author decided to follow this system of practicum. We would like to remark the importance of the linking between juridical practice and discourse. After that, it is explained the sense in which we have understood the rhetorical exercise during debate's sessions. Thrid, it is exposed the methodology and design of practical sessions. Finally, it is given notice of the valuation of the experience.El artículo contiene el relato de la experiencia docente del practicum de Teoría del Derecho I, realizado a través de la organización de los alumnos en grupos de debate acerca de cuestiones de interés como la ablación, pena de muerte, globalización, etc., discutidos sobre la base del contenido teórico de la asignatura.En primer lugar se ofrece una descripción de los motivos que justificaron la adopción de este sistema de clases prácticas, haciendo especial hincapié en la vinculación entre la práctica jurídica y el discurso. En segundo lugar, se explica el sentido en el que se ha entendido el sentido retórico en el curso de las sesiones de debate. En tercer lugar, se expone la metodología y el diseño de las sesiones prácticas. Por último, se recoge la valoración que de las mismas realizaron los propios alumnos y la autora del artículo, responsable de la docencia práctica de la asignatura

Señala también que la maternidad ha de ser protegida y considerada como algo indisponible (también en estos tiempos de prevalencia absoluta de la autonomía de la voluntad). Caracterització de l’esllavissada de La Riba (Tarragona) a partir de dades LiDAR i fotogrametria

Following the landslide some controlled blastings were done due to stabilize the slope. This study applied techniques of photogrammetry and LiDAR data. The objective of this study is to compare the results obtained to explain the advantages and limitations of each technique. To characterize the landslide have been done two photogrammetric models and two LiDAR data models, corresponding to the pre and post blast. With these dataset have been obtained 4 points clouds, and the same processing has been done to both of them, with two main objectives: The first one, is to identify and characterize the discontinuity families, and the second objective is to calculate the volumes of material involved in the blast. For the volume calculation have been used two different methods: the construction of simplified surfaces enclosing volumes obtained with simplified models at pre and post blast (software Gocad (Paradigm - www.pdgm.com)) and comparison of models before and after blasting (software PolyWorks (InnovMetric - www.innovmetric.com)). Finally, the results are compared to determine and justify the differences obtained and identify the limitations and advantages of each technique
