Irreversible phase transitions induced by an oscillatory input
A novel kind of irreversible phase transitions (IPT's) driven by an
oscillatory input parameter is studied by means of computer simulations. Second
order IPT's showing scale invariance in relevant dynamic critical properties
are found to belong to the universality class of directed percolation. In

Analytic and Gevrey Hypoellipticity for Perturbed Sums of Squares Operators
We prove a couple of results concerning pseudodifferential perturbations of
differential operators being sums of squares of vector fields and satisfying
H\"ormander's condition. The first is on the minimal Gevrey regularity: if a
sum of squares with analytic coefficients is perturbed with a
pseudodifferential operator of order strictly less than its subelliptic index
it still has the Gevrey minimal regularity. We also prove a statement
concerning real analytic hypoellipticity for the same type of
pseudodifferential perturbations, provided the operator satisfies to some extra
conditions (see Theorem 1.2 below) that ensure the analytic hypoellipticity
Immunomodulatory drugs in acute myeloid leukemia treatment
Immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) are analogs of thalidomide. They have immunomodulatory, antiangiogenic and proapoptotic properties and exert a role in regulating the tumor microenvironment. Recently IMiDs have been investigated for their pleiotropic properties and their therapeutic applications in both solid tumors (melanoma, prostate carcinoma and differentiated thyroid cancer) and hematological malignancies. Nowadays, they are applied in de novo and relapsed/ refractory multiple myeloma, in myelodysplastic syndrome, in del5q syndrome with specific use of lenalidomide and B-cell lymphoma. Several studies have been conducted in the last few years to explore IMiDs possible use in acute myeloid leukemia treatment. Here we report the mechanisms of action of IMiDs in acute myeloid leukemia and their potential future therapeutic application in this disease
Epidemic analysis of the second-order transition in the Ziff-Gulari-Barshad surface-reaction model
We study the dynamic behavior of the Ziff-Gulari-Barshad (ZGB) irreversible
surface-reaction model around its kinetic second-order phase transition, using
both epidemic and poisoning-time analyses. We find that the critical point is
given by p_1 = 0.3873682 \pm 0.0000015, which is lower than the previous value.
We also obtain precise values of the dynamical critical exponents z, \delta,
and \eta which provide further numerical evidence that this transition is in

Equilibrium Properties of A Monomer-Monomer Catalytic Reaction on A One-Dimensional Chain
We study the equilibrium properties of a lattice-gas model of an catalytic reaction on a one-dimensional chain in contact with a reservoir
for the particles. The particles of species and are in thermal contact
with their vapor phases acting as reservoirs, i.e., they may adsorb onto empty
lattice sites and may desorb from the lattice. If adsorbed and
particles appear at neighboring lattice sites they instantaneously react and
both desorb. For this model of a catalytic reaction in the
adsorption-controlled limit, we derive analytically the expression of the
pressure and present exact results for the mean densities of particles and for
the compressibilities of the adsorbate as function of the chemical potentials

On the Squeezed Number States and their Phase Space Representations
We compute the photon number distribution, the Q distribution function and
the wave functions in the momentum and position representation for a single
mode squeezed number state using generating functions which allow to obtain any
matrix element in the squeezed number state representation from the matrix
elements in the squeezed coherent state representation. For highly squeezed
number states we discuss the previously unnoted oscillations which appear in
the Q function. We also note that these oscillations can be related to the
photon-number distribution oscillations and to the momentum representation of

The Feasibility of Using Guided Self-Help in Anorexia Nervosa: An Analysis of Drop-Out From the Study Protocol and Intervention Adherence
The implementation of online technologies to promote wellbeing is increasingly becoming a worldwide priority. This study includes secondary analyses of data and examined drop-out rates in an online guided self-help intervention for patients with anorexia nervosa. Specifically, rates of drop-out at end of treatment (i.e., 6 weeks assessment), as well as intervention adherence (minimum of four of six online guided sessions) and differences between completers and drop-outs were examined. Motivation to change and associated patient variables were assessed as predictors of drop-out using structural equation modeling. Ninety-nine patients were randomized to the intervention arm of the trial. Data were available for 82 individuals, 67 of whom completed the 6 weeks assessment and attended a minimum of four online sessions. No significant differences were found between completers and drop-outs at baseline. At the end of the first week of participation, drop-outs from the 6 weeks assessment or the intervention reported less satisfaction with their work with the mentor delivering online guidance. Greater confidence in own ability to change and higher controlled motivation (willingness to change due to pressure from others) predicted lower drop-out rates from the 6 weeks assessment. Stronger alliance with the therapist at the treatment center and lower psychological distress were associated with greater autonomous motivation (self-directed motivation) and importance and ability to change. Data demonstrate that a novel online guided self-help intervention for patients with anorexia nervosa is feasible. Early satisfaction with the program and external pressure to change have a protective role against drop-out rates. Clinical Trial Registration: www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT02336841
